I quit using fabric softener dyer sheets awhile ago, and haven't notice a difference with my clothes until now that it is winter. Some of my daughters fleece jammies are staticy and have my hair clung to them. Does anyone know of any homemade or green alternative that I could use just to stop the static?

We've been making our own "dryer sheets" in the winter. I pour some Seventh Generation fabric softener into a bowl with a lid and cut up a couple small rags from t-shirts. I keep the rags soaking in the softener, squeeze one out when I need it and throw it in the dryer like a regular dryer sheet. That's the only thing that has worked so far.
I've tried vinegar in the rinse cycle, foil balls and those rubber (or whatever material it is) dryer balls and nothing works. I haven't tried the wool balls though. It seems to be worse on the really cold days when it's dry in the house.
Tired after a long morning of hiking and swimming.
