BR: testing

Anyone choose not to have the testing for Downs & Trisomy?

Re: BR: testing

  • We didn't because the tests are too inconclusive.

  • We didn't do it.  It's a really long story; there was a communication mixup at the office.  We originally planned to but after the mixup and such we ended up not.  Plus my doctor didn't recommend it b/c it has such a high false positive rate and we had zero signs implying we'd have any problems.

Oh and FYI, they can test for Down's without doing the NT Scan.  They just measure the fluid on the back of the baby's neck at your 12 and/or 20 week ultrasound.  That would be the first marker that would indicate a problem.

  • we didn't.  The tests aren't always right, in fact often they are incorrect.  And even if our baby had Downs or something, it wouldn't have changed our minds on keeping it, and really would have just added more stress for the pregnancy.  I know several people who were tested and were told that their baby had Downs, and they were really upset the whole pregnancy and the baby was born fine.

  • We didn't have them either time. We were keeping our babies either way so there was no need for it.
  • We didn't. Too many false positives. Plus, we'd keep the baby no matter what.

  • we didn't because of the increased risk of false positives with multiples.
