Valentines Day

I know it is early, but does anyone have something special planned?  I just made dinner reservations for H and I at his favorite restaurant.  I think I am going to wait to surprise him.

Re: Valentines Day

  • I am actually flying my BFF in from GA for Valentine's weekend.  Through a chain of unrelated circumstances that no one cares to hear, my FI is having his bachelor party in Vegas over that weekend.  So we are going to have a girls' weekend. :)

  • We don't do Valentine's Day.  I've just never been into it.

Stop me if I've already told you guys this story, but when DH and I were dating and our first V-Day together came up, I told him I didn't really want to do anything to celebrate it and that he didn't have to get me anything because to me it's the ultimate Hallmark Holiday (no offense to those who choose to partake, it's just not for me!).

I found out later that all of his guy friends were like, "It's a trick!  She's just testing you!  You have to do something for Valentine's Day."  When I told them later, "No, really, I just don't do Valentine's Day," they still didn't believe me!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I am not sure. Probably nothing big, I work 7am-3pm that day.  I have a feeling I will be cooking, we never really do anything just kind of just hang out together. Who knows.

Ditto! I could have written this almost word for word.

  • Who knows. We have gone out to eat in the past, and other times all we've done is exchange cards. We'll see haha.

  • Nothing special, probably. My H will be working (he's a chef) since it is one of the busiest restaurant days of the year.  I may go out with some single girl friends for drinks and dessert.

  • We're not really into it, but in college our group of friends used to go out as a big group, one year we went to an empty dive bar and did karaoke all night which was a lot of fun.  I send out "valentines", but I just like to do hand written letters in general, and it gives me a reason to send them out with a deadline.

This year I may use it as an excuse to go back to No.9 Park.

  • We have a GC to the Cheesecake Factory, so I think we may go for lunch.

  • Our dog is being neutered the thursday before so we'll probably just hang out at home. Maybe do some take out.

We've normally been skiing for the last few years so we'd go out to eat. I don't even remember what we did last year. I know MH got me a facial at bella sante which was glorious.

That sounds like a great idea! :)

  • We haven't really thought about it yet. We usually go out to eat. Since we're on a tight budget we'll probably either go somewhere cheap or make something at home.
  • I'm sure I'll be working since it's a Sunday. DH and I might go out the following Monday, when I have a day off and it's not crazy busy.

We're not huge into it either. We might go to Tresca; they have a great wine list. In the past we've given each other cute gifts, but (and this might sound cliche) we show we love each other throughout the year. Stick out tongue

I'm 100% with you.  Yes, cheesy, but true!

Jenny, he does every now and then. TBH, he works a lot of nights so I am home to cook for myself a lot. I actually like to cook though, but there are some dishes he make so much better. He makes a mean fettucini alfredo (I can't seem to get it right). My favorite thing he makes is an apple sage stuffed chicken with squash raviolis and maple sauce. Last Valentine's Day, he made me amaretto chicken with strawbwrries. Soo good!

  • We usually make a fancy dinner at home, something labor intensive that we wouldn't make for a regular dinner.  I don't like dealing with crowds at restaurants or movies on Valentine's Day.
  • We don't do anything special... it's on a weekend this year, right? We'll be skiing Big Smile!!!

I cook almost every night so just having someone around who can cook would be awesome. And I love Squash raviolis they are my favorite pasta once again jealous hahaha

  • That sounds nice- a surprise dinner at his fave place!

We were going to go to FL but now our friends will be at Mardi Gras instead, so we are back to square one... it is a long weekend so we may end up just hanging out at home and cooking something special.

6 years ago on V-day, DH proposed!

    That's so sweet!

  • I think that we will probably stay in and cook.  The crowds at restaurants are unbearable!
  • We don't normally do anything. And every year I tell DH, don't get me anything, and he always says he won't and then gives in last second and gets me a card or something. He can't help it haha. But this year, we're on a super tight budget so he better not! If we can just spend the evening together I'll be happy :)

  • My bday is the 12th so we don't do VDay. We're going to Abe and Louie's that Friday night and then my girlfriends are taking me to dinner, drinks, and a drag show on Saturday night, the 13th! I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!

    um, drool.

Those sound like some tasty dishes, even as I sit here with my coffee at 8:30 in the morning!

  • It's our first anniversary. :) H has plans for us that he won't tell me about, but we've decided to renew our vows in a new state every year. Since we lived and got married in Florida last year and recently moved here, it works out perfectly for us to easily get started on this with Massachusetts as our first renewal state. :) Nothing formal... just the two of us and our vows... but I'm excited.

I've also got some fun things planned for H (sexy scavenger hunt). I've already got his gifts, too, so we're good to go there. It should be a special day.

Edited to Add - we did not start out so hot on the Valentine's Day plans, so it's ironic that we wound up getting married that day. Our first year as a dating couple, he gave me a beer mug card with the hand written words (in pencil) "I like you better than beer." And he told me he didn't love me yet. Good times!

And lmao at your first valentine's gift! Hahahaha

  • I was thinking we'd just have a relaxing weekend and then go somewhere nice for dinner, but yesterday we got an email from our favorite B&B in ME, and they're having a Valentine's weekend special, so I'm kind of hoping we can go there... I'm just not sure we can afford it right now, it'd probably be $500 for the room and food. And we haven't been to ME since June 2008, usually we go every year.

It's still coming together, but I want to drop off a package at his work with the first clue inside. That will send him to another location to pick up his next gift with another clue, that will send him back to our apartment complex with another gift inside the door with instructions to strip down to his boxers. Candles, music, and me in lingerie will be waiting. Of course, if I was doing this 100% with him in mind, I would also have sports on the TV, but I'm not willing to make that concession this time. He's getting Red Sox tickets as part of his gift so that will have to suffice.

I love doing stuff like this. I once wrote fun phrases on 60 or 70 sticky notes and put them all over the apartment on things like the light switch ("You turn me on."), in the fridge on the butter ("You make me melt"), and on a photo on the wall ("I like hanging out with you.") It was fun.

My dream is to plan a trip to Vegas, and clear his schedule at work for the week and surprise him by just driving to the airport, but that will have to wait until I have a job and it's not completely ridiculous for me to be spending money like that.
