Re: Poll: Cost of Living?
Similarly, I'm an hour and a half south of where StJoes lives. 30 minutes from the city. We're considered the South Shore.
3br, 2 bath house, 1500 sq ft goes for around 300k. I got a crazy deal on my brand new house - 260k. More bedrooms, more square feet will run you around 350k-450k.
For our one bedroom in the suburbs, we paid $795 in rent. In a complex, a one bedroom will run you around $900, two bedroom $1200. The two bedroom I lived in back in '05 was $1100, going up to $1200 after I left. The closer to the city, again, way more expensive.
Job wise, teachers w/ a Bachelors start at $38k-ish. Teachers w/ a Masters start significantly higher (therefore my push to get my grad degree done before the wedding). Other jobs? 3-4 years out of school, you're looking at 45-55k, even in the city. I'd like to know where these 60k-80k jobs are, haha.
