    North Shore, Boston, MA

3 bedroom, 2 bath house, 1600 square feet = $400k, decently updated. I don't know if there are any brand new constructions near me other than million dollar houses. There are, however, parcels of land for $300k that you could probably throw a $100k modular on.

My 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment is $2k a month, not including utilities. With utilities and internet/TV (FiOs), we pay about $2500.

Depending on if you work in the city or not, out of school for 3-5 years, and depending on what profession you're in, you could expect anywhere from $60-80k.

Similarly, I'm an hour and a half south of where StJoes lives.  30 minutes from the city.  We're considered the South Shore.

3br, 2 bath house, 1500 sq ft goes for around 300k.  I got a crazy deal on my brand new house - 260k.    More bedrooms, more square feet will run you around 350k-450k.

For our one bedroom in the suburbs, we paid $795 in rent.  In a complex, a one bedroom will run you around $900, two bedroom $1200.  The two bedroom I lived in back in '05 was $1100, going up to $1200 after I left.  The closer to the city, again, way more expensive.

Job wise, teachers w/ a Bachelors start at $38k-ish.  Teachers w/ a Masters start significantly higher (therefore my push to get my grad degree done before the wedding).  Other jobs?  3-4 years out of school, you're looking at 45-55k, even in the city.   I'd like to know where these 60k-80k jobs are, haha.

  • Where do you live? Western kentuckyWhat would a normal 3-bedroom, 2-bath or thereabouts, in decent shape, etc house cost you? it really just depends.. a 20 mile radius can make the prices drastically change... 120-190k How about rental prices?  Whats a 2 bedroom apartment go for? same thing as with houses big difference in a small radius... i would say 500-600 a monthWhat's a typical college graduate with a few years work experience salary expectations be? anywhere from 30-50k

Where do you live? (State/metropolitan area, you dont have to be super specific) I live about 5 miles outside of Boston in Waltham.

What would a normal 3-bedroom, 2-bath or thereabouts, in decent shape, etc house cost you?  If we are talking about 1500 sq ft. - around $400K. You can get a POS fixer upper for about $350K, but you'll probably be sorry. Anything over 1500 sq ft you're talking probably $500K+ if you want anything that looks decent and doesn't need any work.

How about rental prices?  Whats a 2 bedroom apartment go for? The city I live in has 2 decent sized colleges in it, as well as about 10 colleges within a 10 mile radius. Because of this the rental market is effed up. I live in a really nice 1 bedroom, but it's really small - about 850 sq feet and I pay $1400 a month plus utils. My old apartment was a 1400 sq ft. 3 bedroom 2.5 bathroom and rent was around $2300 a month plus utils. You can find sketchy apartments for around $1000, but they're not going to be nice.

What's a typical college graduate with a few years work experience salary expectations be?  (I dont mean you just graduated with a pharmacy degree and such but something with a typical 4 year degree, teacher, accountant, etc) What Cdobs said about teaching is right, well, because she's a teacher and she knows that stuff. Other salaries vary a significant amount. I graduated with a finance degree from a school where the top accounting companies recruit from regularly. Companies with really good reputations get away with paying people crap out of college since ppl are just concerned with getting them on their resume. Put it this way, State Street pays staff accountants about $32K out of college which is CRAP for what you're doing. Finance / Accounting degree, you're looking at about $60K+ a couple years out of college.
