Is this normal?

I had a 3rd degree tear when I had my DD 18 months ago.  It took about 3 months to heal up to where it didn't hurt.  Still I don't let my DH have intercourse because it hurts.  We have to use KY cause its so dry since giving birth, but it still seems to rub against the stitched up part which makes it hurt for days after.  So I've just kept things to the oral, but I know he wants more and if we ever want another kid we're gonna have to so what do I do?
