Since the board is dead...
One of the "Hot Topics" is Facebook status etiquette. What do you think should be off limits or just, plain annoys you?
Re: Since the board is dead...
I have a couple of girl friends on there and they constantly update their status with something having to do with their Aunt Flo or lady business. I just feel like... not necessary. I'm really not a prude, I just don't need to know all the different reasons AF sucks this month. Especially since between the two of them I seem to see these updates every couple weeks!
Ok, let's expand that to include any bodily function having to do with you or your child. I think potty training updates are fine, as long as, they don't include gross details.
I have no problem discussing these things with people (Normailed and Tracy included) but don't need to hear about from my hundreds of FB friends.
One that maybe only bothers me: Teachers that constantly talk about how they are under payed and over worked. They are always the first ones to count down to the summer and brag every time they have a random day off for semester break, etc. I agree teachers should make more money, I just get tired of hearing them complain all the time.
Exactly. It's like because it's a computer screen, and not another person, people say whatever without thinking about it. There are some things I will share with / say to my very close friends & family. Those things do not need to be shared with people I went to high school with and haven't seen in 9 years.
I HATE when people update every little detail of their day. Like I care you walked to the mailbox.... Well maybe not that extreme, but I"m sure you know what I'm talking about. Or when someone basically writes out their to-do list on FB daily. Once in awhile ok, I get it, or if its a big day like your wedding, but to do it everyday drives me nuts!
Also this one girl I went to HS with takes all these sexual quizes on FB, like the real raunchy ones and posts her results. It's one thing to take quizes like that as a joke with girlfriends (like Jenny said about poop) but another to broadcast that you like that stuff over FB.
Topics that are Facebook TMI (in my opinion)
1. Sex. If you've just done it or are just about to, please step away from Facebook. Added emphasis on please if said act is in an attempt to procreate and you let every one know. ::dry heaves::
2. Drinking and/or Drugs. Status updates like "man, I was so high last night" or "got so drunk I blacked out" = me judging you. We all make bad decisions, why publicize them?
3. Fighting between couples, especially when said couple goes back and forth twenty times on the status update fighting while their friends chime in. Way to be adult people.
4. followed by overly mushy proclamations of love. I do not need to see two hundred posts back and forth about how much you love each other. Or miss each other. I'm guessing (since you're so in love) you have each other's phone number. Maybe call/text them about your undying love instead. Save the rest of our gag reflexes. Kthanks.
5. Bodily functions. This includes your children's "adorable" new abilities. I do not want to hear about how little Mikey pee-peed-in-the-potty, or about how you have a to clean his poop from the walls, nor do I want to hear about your stomach flu or raging AF. If this makes me a bad friend/person-- so be it.
I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.

This!
And announcing that you're pregnant 2 minutes after you peed on a stick when you were 2 days late and haven't even gone into the doctor yet. I am friends with a girl who did this and all her family commented below like "what?!?! this is how we find out" Sersiouly, is nothing sacred?
You know what else is just as bad? Twitter updates. I know Twitter was created for the purpose of updating people about what you're up to... but really?! People now update their FB like it's a Twitter. I think they can be linked now, somehow, not sure how though. So when you update one, you can update both.
OMG...I had to defriend a guy I went to HS with b/c of this. His status over a 20 minute period was this.
12:01 Going into McDonalds
12:08 Leaving McDonalds
12:21 My food was yummy
He always had stupid updates like this and at first I thought it was funny, but it really got out of control. I mean who has the time to update every detail of the day. Now he always pops in the people I may know section!
THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS.

Uh yeah...this happened to me! My SIL announced that she was PG 5 minutes after POAS! All I could think about was her status the weekend before about how she was "going to get effed up"
Turns out she was 7 wks PG.
1.) Gym updates. Why does everyone in the world love to brag about the fact that they went to the gym. These people generally don't put anything interesting or funny as a status update, but LOVE to tell you that they're headed to the gym, just got back from the gym, are going to the gym tomorrow morning, etc.
2.) More than a 2 sentance status update. If your status is long, I'm not reading it.
3.) "If you need me, you can call my cell or text me." Seriously, no one "looks" for you on facebook as a first form of contact.
There are so many more, but there's a few for you!
ME too on this!
And how about announcing your engagement? I WAS working on telling my family & friends one by one and I had people on FB congraulating me before I had gotten a hold of everyone!!!!!
I agree with what everyone has said. I have one FB friend who posts every morning her schedule for the day. Really, who cares?
Of course, there's the attention grabbing vague posts - "My life is terrible", etc. STFU.
Oh! A couple of DH's cousins have created FB pages for their kids who are like 6 and 3. Every time I see the kids pages in the "People You May Know" I just ignore them. I find it ridiculous that they did that. I don't understand, if they want family/friends to know what their kids are up to, why don't they just do that with their own FB?
I'm saying each of these things with specific FB friends of mine in mind (don't worry it's none of you
)
FB #1-(DH's cousin-in-law) is the worst "constant updater" I have for a friend. She does the whole "walking to the mailbox" walking back from teh mailbox" "looking through the mail" It drives me nuts! There was another girl that was worse then that but I hid all her status updates so I don't have to look at them.
FB#2- (My BFF who I love) she is constantly declaring how her child is the cutest in the whole world and he's doing this and this and this....now I love her and her son, but I don't need 10 updates a day on how cute he is. I get it, you love your kid.
FB #3-(coworker) she is constantly making status updates strictly to get attention and responses. She types the most random obscure things so that people will comment on them. There's always a couple comtemplative thoughts thrown in there which she steals from other people, magazines, and websites (I know b/c I look at the same websites and the same magazines). We're talking like 20-30 a day plus she's one of those compulsive quiz takers who has publish the results of every.single.one
These are definitely my most hated type of updates... Oh poor me! Get over yourself!
I have a friend who recently discovered religion. She is constantly updating her status about religion and God. I am religious and all, but she is constantly shoving it down everyones throat and getting on everyones case who chooses not to go to church. A few things is great! I'm happy for you and your new found faith, but every single status update is enough to drive me insane! And don't push your beliefs on everyone, we all have a right to our own beliefs.
I also have an issue with people shoving their political beliefs at you over their status updates. I have no problem if what you say actually makes sense but when you are going off about politics and actually making up everything you say... enough is enough. I have blocked several people due to this. I don't care what your political affiliation is just don't rip on other people for their beliefs.
I have a cousin who chooses to use her status updates to fight with her ex who is also the father of her child. I realize you are 21 years old, but you are old enough to be a mother, grow up and stop broadcasting your mess of a relationship for the world to see. Your poor child deserves better! Her ex isn't much better he is constantly updating his status to talk about how drunk or high he was and about all the crap he is having to do because of his DUI.
Those drive me crazy! I have one girl who does this 5-10 times a day. First she didn't have a job then she had a job but hated it. Now it's nothing but the vague FML posts. I refuse to give her the attention she obviously wants so badly
First, I will admit that I have to hide these kinds of people...just can't take it. I have hidden people because of their bodily function posts (esp. a pregnant friend who updated every disgusting detail of her pregnancy - it was out of hand) and people who are just soooo freakin' negative about everything (esp. politics).
My new-found irritation is people picking on other people's posts...like "I am sick of people complaining about their jobs, at least you have one." Okay, I get it...times are tough...I am lucky to have a job and though I don't go complaining about mine on FB, if someone had a bad day and is venting about it, so be it. I'm certain that everyone knows that they are lucky to have a job right now and they shouldn't feel guilty about it.
And last weekend after the Colts won their way into the Super Bowl, everyone was posting about how happy they were...but then there's the freakin' downers posting, "I'm sick of hearing about the Colts and the Super Bowl." It's the freakin' Super Bowl...we're in freakin' Indiana - this state really isn't all that exciting. So...hell ya, GO COLTS!
PS
I will not join your "mafia" either...

My FB is linked to my twitter account but only on my business fan page. Meaning, whenever I put something up on my fan page, it automatically goes on my twitter page as well. I do this because I have customers who use twitter, but not FB.
I was wondering how it worked! I see a lot of my friends update their facebook, but it looks like a twitter update.
Bikram Yoga. You do it in a really hot room.
