How do you celebrate work milestones?

DH wants to celebrate his team reaching a major milestone - they have just signed on their 100th client.  He wants to do something special at work for his team to mark the occasion, but doesn't have a clue of how to do it.  When they reached 50 clients, he bought gold balloons and put them on the chairs of all the employees on his team and got a cake saying "_Project Name_ turns 50!"  It was a big hit and the team liked the attention of the balloons (amazing how much a balloon can do for 30-40-somethings!)  He wants to do something different this time.  Do the all-knowing and creative nesties have any ideas?  I think he'd be willing to spend up to $200.

Re: How do you celebrate work milestones?

  • Have lunch catered? Don't know how many employees but if it's not too many people you can do that for 200.
  • order 100 cookies from Tiff's and have milk & cookies one afternoon?

how many people are on the team? could he buy everyone lunch? a small gift card for everyone?

  • i agree with the PP. food is always a nice thank you.
  • He wants it to be something that recognizes the people on the team but that also shows the rest of the company that they have hit this major milestone (this was an underdog kind of project - DH really feels like he has to prove the project was a worthwhile investment).  That's why the balloons were good - they were visible to everyone but singled out individuals.

  • Oh and meant to add that there are probably 10 people on the team and 100+ employees.

  • I used to work at a company that was all about work milestones, and some of the things they did included:

*a company-wide awards lunch where they gave out trophies (in your DH's case, maybe a cupcake party where the team members are recognized w/ trophies in front of the group?)

*t-shirts/denim shirts/golf shirts with the accomplishment or event on them (yep, denim shirts. it was 10 years ago!) and everyone wore the shirts on a designated day (in our case, a casual friday) and were treated to lunch

    HTH!

  • Something that I did was buy Fish from the FISH philosphy.  I got 4 for like $12?   My team loved it!! We had one of the fish we passed around and awarded to a new person each week.  He had pictures taken all aruond the city.

  • Guava, I had two denim shirts, from two different companies, hanging in my closet until I did a big purge last October...  Embarrassed  A long-sleeved and a short-sleeved one, of course.

My idea: special t-shirts for the team in question, along with an email to the whole company describing how proud the company is of the team's efforts, to be celebrated with a cupcake party at 2 pm, etc.  Shirts = visibility, email = explanation, cupcakes = reward and maybe encouragement for other teams to make an effort, if nothing else, to see what kind of creative reward will be conjured up next time.

I know we did some cool stuff in the past, but it is all escaping me right now.
