Say Anything

Rock-n-Voll did this awhile ago and I thought it was a great idea. It's been so quiet in here lately.  Feel free to share anything here Smile

Re: Say Anything

  • I went to Walgreens today to buy a pack of Reese Peanut Butter Cups and I couldn't find them... but I did find a Milky Way "simply caramel".  It's a Milky Way with no nougat!!!  It has about twice the caramel of a regular Milky Way and a thick coating of chocolate.  I am in love.
  • I really need a job.

I have applied for 180 positions since September and it's really starting to get discouraging.

I have been temping, but I'm ready for full time employment!!!

  • I love how, every time I get on a phone meeting the following happens:

    1. The lawn guys proceed to turn on the loudest leaf blower in the US and stand under my windows and use it

    2. The dog will decide that is the perfect time to chew on her nylabone like she is devouring a dead animal

    3. The AFB decides to do practice rounds about 500 feet above us with their F15s.

  • I was teasing DH about his vision the other day, and jokingly put on his glasses, and my sight improved. Gah!  His prescription isn't that strong, but still I had great vision growing up.  It was always fine at check-ups but I haven't had it checked in a few years, guess I better get on that....

That sounds exhausting!  What kind of work are you looking for?

  • My birthday is tomorrow and on Saturday my friends are taking me to go see drag queens! I secrelty am more excited for that than I am for dinner at Abe and Louie's with the H tomorrow night.

Thanks! I am actually excited for it. It's the only steakhouse in Boston we haven't been to. We did a steakhouse tour a few years back and never made it there.

    1. I had an interview today and I literally have no idea if I'll get a callback. I can only hope I do because the job is so perfect it's rediculous.
    2. There are now coconut M&M's. There is a God :)
    3. I have an eye appt today and I won't lie; I'm excited about getting glasses

EWE. That sounds odd. Are they good? I bet it's one of those things that don't sound good, but tastes amazing!

  • Haha, I love coconut and I love chocolate so to me, they're amazing.

    It's definitely getting tiresome!

I'm looking for anything in the nonprofit or education sector. I have a Masters in Public Administration and a Bachelors in Social Work. Most of the work that I've done has involved event management, fundraising/development and/or program management for "at-risk" teens or kids with life-threatening illnesses. There are so MANY organizations/universities up here, so theoretically it's a job hunter's dream, but unfortunately there are so many people looking.

I know the feeling (kind've) - I've been looking for a new job forever and the graphic design market is crap right now so there are TONS of designers out there all starving for a job. Where I went today told me that they're doing a bunch more tomorrow and then a bunch next week so there's some serious competition out there.

    Good luck on your search!
  • I want to know how someone expects me and my DH to go to a $250.00 PP fundraiser for work when they cut our pay starting 2/1 and are now down $750 a month combined. Really??

  • I have the same thing as usual: I hate job hunting and wish I could just stop.  Never thought I'd be the SAHW type, but I guess I am.  At least I have two interviews this week, we'll see how it goes.

I understand your frustration; I've been out of work for over a year.  Luckily I've recently been able to go back to my old employer part-time so I can at least be doing something, but despite what I said above I do need to get back to FT employment ASAP.

I think a drag show sounds super fun!  Where are you going?  And happy early birthday!
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Where did you get your BSW?

I am finishing up my Bachelor's in Psych at Simmons. I don't understand why they have a MSW but not a BSW......? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I am starting my MSW next January and hope to work for DCF.

Good luck on your job search! I looked on the MA website just to see and NO ONE is hiring social workers - so not good. :-(

  • My stomach is killing me. :-(

I have absolutely no motivation to leave the house. I am home this semester, doing all my classes online. I am not working because of the disability so I pretty much go out once a week and that's on Saturdays for dinner with the hubs.

I haven't been driving because of falling-asleep-issues and I have been avoiding doing my sleep study because I can't sleep without MH and I also just don't wanna drive because I don't wanna go anywhere.

    I suck lately.

I'm glad you've been able to do part-time work at your old employer... that does help... but that's got to be SO frustrating! It took my sister a year to find her current job, but she LOVES it, so it wound up being worth the wait. Fingers crossed for both of us that it works out as well for us! Good luck on your interviews this week!

I got my BASW at Salisbury University in Maryland. I went the Public Administration route for my Masters because I found myself getting very emotionally involved with Micro level social work and wanted to focus more on Mezzo and Macro since that seemed to be a good way to get into the running a program side of things.

The hiring situation isn't much better there either, unfortunately! I've had several interviews and made it into the final two or three people in most of those cases, but so far nothing concrete. But, the temp job I just had told me they wanted to hire me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed things pan out there. There's also a position I interviewed for a few weeks ago. They're taking their time going through the first round of interviews, but I'm hopeful I'll keep proceeding through the process.

BTW, I hope you feel better soon! That sucks!

  • I'm late on this! Happy Birthday christytommy!

I have a terrible sinus infection and I can't stop coughing, so when dh came home with Edy's girl scout cookie ice cream (the kind with samoas in it omg) I couldn't eat any of it because I wouldn't be able to stop coughing. Soooo it's been calling out to me for 2 days now and I might just have to deal with the coughing fit!

Thanks! We're going to Jacques in the city. I hear it's hilarious so I'm super excited about it! I just hope my friends don't tell them it's my birthday. I hear they do crazy thing to you then!

  • I just got a positive pregnancy test:)  I don't want to get too excited because it is still so early, but DH and I are pretty pumped!

  • I've been complaining about having nothing to do, and all my friends being really busy lately, and finally we have plans over the weekend, but I'm kind of annoyed and wish the people could just come over to our house instead of us meeting them in Sturbridge tomorrow, because I want to make this really labor-intensive chocolate cake for Valentine's Day, and we're having people over for a game night on Monday and we really need to clean.

And DH wants to do all this stuff on Monday because 2 weeks ago his company decided they'd give everyone the day off, but he keeps forgetting that I have to go to work, just for 2 hours, but with people coming over at 6pm, I'm not sure how much local sightseeing I can do.

    Bad timing for everything.

On the other hand, the sugar cookie nutella buttercream sandwiches I made on Sunday are 100% worth the calories. They're probably the best sugar cookies I've ever made.

Oooh, this sounds good.  Could you share the recipe?

Sorry about your busy weekend.  I tend to overbook myself sometimes too, especially when it comes to planning for guests.  DH and I want to make so much food and do so many things and we always run out of time.
