Poll: what ethnicity is your LO?

... or what will your LO's ethnicity be (if you are PG / if you were to have a LO)

Re: Poll: what ethnicity is your LO?

  • Pasty white like the moon. Stick out tongue We're both Euro-mutts. I'm hoping they get my complexion (light olive from my Italian side), but we shall see.

  • Japanese/Filipino

    How about you, Lori?

ETA: Since we're talking quantities, our LO will be 7/8 Japanese, 1/8 Filipino.

  • MH is Japanese and I'm half Dutch and 1/4 each English and Irish!  Interesting combo = a Euro Japanese baby!  I just hope the baby looks a bit like me, that's all Stick out tongue

  • 1/4 Japanese, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 German, 1/4 English

Interested to see how that works out.... Stick out tongue

  • I'm part Native American, DH is white

I thought it was strange that some of the hospital nurses kept asking what ethnicity baby Jack is...  I said part Native American b/c that is where he gets his obvious dark coloring from and I'm guessing that is why they were asking...

  • i'm 100% mexican, dh is 50% german and 50% euro mutt...that would be an interesting combo.

  • Wow...let's see...according to our culture in the US she's considered African American because she is 1/4 black...

DH is 1/2 black (although his paternal great-grandmother was full Cherokee...so he's got Native American blood), 1/2 Caucasian (mostly German heritage)...

I am 1/4 English, 1/4 Russian (by way of Romania), 1/4 Irish, 1/8 German, 1/8 French...euromutt all the way...

Our baby girl is definitely an exotic mix of all of the above.  Oddly enough her skin tone is about the same of DH's.  I thought it would be darker than mine but lighter than his...not so.  I say someone in my family tree has some 'splainin' to do!

  • Well, Vance is half white (mixture), and half Japanese (if you want to get technical, 1/4 Japanese, 1/4 Okinawan)

    I'm half Japanese/Chinese

So... she's half Japanese, 1/4 Chinese and 1/4 white

  • half Vietnamese, half Caucasian
  • Jaime, I don't think I've mentioned it, but holy crap A looks adorable in your siggy photo strip! I start laughing every time I see it because she just looks so freaking cute and happy!
  • I'm of 100% German heritage, and MH is German/Austrian (which is pretty much the same thing, let's face it) and Jewish (if you count that as an ethnicity, which some people do).  There's almost no chance of our kids NOT having blonde hair, pale blue eyes, and pasty white skin like the both of us.

  • The hubby and I tend to have the "What box will our kid mark?" conversation a lot since our kids won't be a majority anything.

    I'm Mexican (1/2), Black (1/4), Italian (1/8), German (1/8)

    He's Japanese (1/2), German (1/4), Russian (1/4).

It'll be interesting to see how our kid(s) will come out and what they will identify with the most.

  • Well, I'm in the pasty white boat(mostly German I think) and Matt is 7/8 black and 1/8 Cherokee. Funny though everyone calls mixed people yellow so their Uncle is always telling our girls they're hi-yellow and Tia's response is," NO! I'm peach!" She's been calling herself peach since she's been about 1 1/2. She asked me last year when she was in pre-k learning about color mixing if black and white make grey why was she peach. I couldn't even answer her I was laughing so much. She was really trying to figure out how that happened. lol

  • Poor Jaylee could be used as a math problem when learning to add fractions. She is 1/4 Japanese 5/16 Portuguese 5/16 Filipino 1/32 Irish 1/32 German 1/16 Puerto Rican  and too little Hawaiian to really figure out.. She is probably so cute because she is sooo mixed up.

  • Hubbers and I are both half Filipino/half Caucasian (German/PA-Dutch), so our future kiddies will be half Filipino/ half Caucasian. Same as us!
  • ME: 100% Filipino (with a trickle of Spanish blood) + DH: 1/4 Filipino + 1/4 Polish + 1/2 white mutt (lol don't know what mix; forefathers came from France I think) = Polipino baby!
  • I'm a mix of European ethnicities...none of which I really relate to on any level.

DH is black (mixed with white and Native American, but, on both sides of his family, the mix is 3-4 generations back).

It's interesting b/c I think DH and I both imagined that Marino would look like he was mixed race but EVERYONE who doesn't know DH thinks Marino is just plain 'ol white and people are always surprised when I tell them his father is black. People always ask me "oh, does Marino's dad have curly hair?" You never know how the genes will end up!

  • I'm 100% Japanese and B is 1/2 Filipino, 1/4 Irish, 1/4 Danish/Norwegian/Spanish so Kaya's 1/2 Japanese, 1/4 Filipino, 1/8 Irish 1/8 Danish/Norwegian/Spanish...but looking at her she is all Japanese!  My dad's side has really strong genes so she totally looks like that side of the family and so much like some of my cousins' kids.

  • Our LO is Euro-mix/Mexican from me, and Hawaiian/Chinese from her Dad. DH has dark skin so when Wai was born I was surprised that she was so fair. I thought the darker skin would be the dominate gene but not so for us I guess!
  • Very interesting thread! We had a discussion about this recently because I couldn't figure out what box to check on Alexa's daycare form for race...

I am 1/4 American Indian (Aztec, Apache), 1/4 Mexican and 1/2 White (English, Scottish, French).

    DH is Eastern European (Jewish).

    So...

I guess that makes Alexa 3/4 White and 1/4 American Indian & Mexican. Which means she's basically White, with a twist. :-)

That explains why her eyes were blue/gray at birth. We were so surprised! I fully expected her to have dark eyes and thought that the doctor must have given me the wrong baby! LOL. My friend said that blue/gray is common for all White babies at birth.

  • Malia - Marino had blue eyes when he was born, too. I was really surprised (and he was blonde). When I was pg, DH used to joke, "that baby better not come out with blue eyes and blonde hair" and he did! His eyes changed around 5/6 months.

    That's adorable!

I call Joseph my Mocha Joe so we've been calling Libby Mocha Latte.

Libby's eyes are blue/gray too...we expect them to change to brown though.  There was a slight chance of us having a child with blue eyes since J's mom and my mom both have them, but it wouldn't have been quite rare had it happened.

  • half Chinese, half Caucasian

I was totally surprised when Brooke came out with blue/grey eyes too! Especially since she is only a quarter white... but they turned a nice brown a few months later. :)

  • DH is 1/4 chinese and mostly filipino.

    I'm 1/2 irish, 1/2 german

I don't expect our little one to look much like me at all. Hopefully he gets something of mine though.

  • 100% Caucasian, mostly from German descent.  She loves saurkraut too!   :)
  • I think if we had a child he she would be very adorable of course, but I have no idea what ethnicity if any they would pull from since both the hubs and I are pretty mixed up.  I'm not sure of the exact amounts but I always tease MH that he's a mut, no one can figure out what he is by looking at him.  He is Chinese, Portuguese, Filipino, Hawaiian, Puerto Rican and I am 1/4 portugese and 1/4 spanish from my mother and the rest is Euro from my day (Norwegian, Welsh, German, English)
