How much does your BC cost?

How much does ur BC cost each month?
I was on yaz and it was $6.00 a month, but I had to get off of it it made me crazy! Then I wanted the patch but the cost of it was $70, then asked about Ortho Trcyclen Lo and that is $70 too! I am scared to have the Mirena done because of the risks of complications and I have never had a child. I have insurance, I do not understand why BC is so high!

Re: How much does your BC cost?

  • $80 (from a health clinic) for 10 years.  An IUD is the way to go, even for many women who haven't had kids (I haven't).
  • I see it this way its a necessary evil if you don't want to have kids and is cheaper then an opps of not using BC.  After years of issues with BCP's, we opted for DH to get snipped.  It was 0, insurance paid for it 100%

  • I go to Planned Parenthood and get my Depo for $60 every three months.  When I was getting pills there they were ~$15 per month.

  • Paragard IUD without insurance was $750 with insurance it would have been $450. Even without insurance it will pay for it's self in 2 1/2 (it's good for 10yrs) vs what I was paying for bcp.

Btw, I've never had kids and it was not an issue having it inserted.

After my 10yrs is up dh is getting snipped (we don't want kids ever) and that will be $0 as health insurance covers the whole procedure.

  • If you can't afford birth control, try to apply for family planning from medicaid. They give it to almost everyone. I don't know what your money situation is but I was paying 60 a month too for Ortho. If you can get the generic of a BCP, they are usually 4 dollars in the four dollar program at target or Walmart.

  • I pay $35 for the Nuva Ring. With my old insurance it was $70. Still cheaper than kids. I want to try an IUD but my Dr is hesitant since I have never had kids.
  • I pay $40/month for the NuvaRing.

Ask about the generic version of Ortho Tricyclen Low if that's what you're interested in.  Anything generic should be substantially cheaper.

However, the patch and ring don't have generics yet.  Maybe someday soon.

I know that my Ortho Tricyclen Lo genetric (Tri-Lo-Sprintec) is no longer available at my Target pharmacy. So now I have to get the regular kind. But my co pay is 9 bucks.

  • My pharmacy does not offer Ortho Tricyclen Lo in genetric either. They said they do not make it anymore. I called my insurance to see what the deal it.

My family planning lets me get BC for free....So...definitely look into that...

  • Mine was about $40 a month, and that's when I didn't have insurance. $10 when I did. However, our health department here gives it out for free. It's not the same thing as planned parenthood or medicaid. I'm pretty sure they have to give you a pap first, but then they give it to you.

  • I have insurance but I take a generic brand, Trinessa, been on it for 6 years now it costs $10/month.  I didn't have insurance for a short time and it was $35.00/month.
  • I pay $40 for a 3-month supply of nuvaring.

I do not have insurance, so I pay $20/year to Walgreens to subscribe to their prescription plan. That gets me Trinessa for $12/month.

Im on Medicaid just for my BCP, because my health insurance is so retarded that it doesnt cover prescription meds. And I was totally not paying $65 a month. Mine is free now!

  • 12 dollars for a three month supply of Ogestrel.

  • Let me clarify. With family planning, it's free.

In the four dollar programs, it's four dollars.

I had two separate ideas, I should have separated them better.

  • $60 per month for Ocella. My insurance does not cover it.
  • My insurance does not cover BC so i go to planned parenthood in Utah and pay $20 a month for nuvaring.  Ortho Tricyclin Lo was something like $16 a month and less if you bought 3 or more packs and even less if you ordered it in the mail through planned parenthood (you cannot order nuvaring in the mail through them).  In California the prices of these at planned parenthood are more (note I do not qualify for financial assistance programs at planned parenthood and therefore it might be cheaper there if you do).
  • My insurance does not cover my BC ( Trisprintec ) but I pay Sweetbay supermarket $7.00 a year to participate in their pharmacy program and I get my BC for $9.95 a month.

  • I'm on Loestrin-24 Fe and it's $24. They have a program/card your doctor can give you so you can get for only $24 or less for a year. Pretty sweet program, I only save a $1 a month because mine's $25 but a dollar is a dollar :) Especially if your current BC is $70.
  • $10

    My insurance covers the rest.
