Ugh, I need glasses.

I've slowly noticed my vision really getting worse lately, but I've been trying to avoid thinking about it. I'm the only person in my family who doesn't have glasses, but I think the gig is up. The other night at the bar I put on my friends distance glasses and oh my gosh it was like seeing a whole other world, everything was so much clearer. I didn't realize just how bad my vision was until then. And recently I've been getting headaches after driving for a while, and I think its due to my eyes.

I am so not looking forward to being almost 23 and finally having to learn to use contacts and wear glasses. It's bumming me out.

Re: Ugh, I need glasses.

  • Awwww... don't be sad.  Glasses can be a super cute accessory!  I wear glasses every day of the work week and only wear contacts on the weekend.  I've been visually challenged since the age of 14.  Think of it as a fun way to change up your look from time to time.  And you will love being able to see things clearly again!

  • Glasses really can be cute.  Especially if you get the stylish ones that are more like an accessory.  I just got a new pair of coach frames and I love them. Smile
  • What specifically is bumming you out?  Glasses/contacts aren't that big of a deal.  Like others said, there are some really cute frames out there.  Or if you're like me, you can swear by your contacts!

Nothing specifically is bumming me out, just the idea of having to do the whole contact thing everyday, and remembering to take them with me whenever I go places, stupid stuff like that. I'll be fine and get over it and get used to it, I just feel like being whiney. Stick out tongue

  • I totally understand that one!!!  I waer glasses and contacts both.  If you can hel it start with contacts and stick with them.  Glasses get dirty too easy and I think they are a pain in the butt!!

  • Glasses are WAY cute!  I remember in college I wanted a pair so bad, I begged my dad for an eye exam just so I could get a pair.  I have issues...  They have lots of cute colors and styles now...you could def. pull off some cute purple vogues or something!  AND you'll be able to see! Geeked
  • I have coach frames three! And I have had glasses since kindergarten and can't wear contacts. I wear them almost all the time, no biggie.

  • I'm the lone non-glass wearer in my family too so I hear ya.  I have had a headache constantly for the last week or so and I'm starting to suspect it is my eyes to blame as well so I may be right there with you soon.  My younger sister who has worn glasses since middle school totally owns hers as an accessory and rocks out some really fun frames.  Make a statement and maybe you won't be so bummed out!
  • Melissa I have the same problem to the T except I am 25. I swear I thought you were older. any way it sucks big time. I am still waiting it out though. There is no way I will enjoy learning how to use contact and I can not stand glasses. Do you have focusing problems?  I do but only sometimes. my eyes feel like they are coated with thick tears (i guess you could call it that way). I finally got my drivers license last year and took the eye test there and passed but just barley. I probably should just go get them looked at to make sure nothing else is going on.

  • My eight year old niece wanted glasses in the worst way.  She started skipping math problems on her paper because, as she said, she "couldn't see them."  My sister, humoring her, took her to the eye doctor to get her eyes checked, and of course they're just fine.  So my sister told my niece that if she came home with 20 perfect math papers that she would take her to get some fake glasses from Claire's Accessoreis.

Perfect Paper #20 was last month.  She's now rocking out to some serious rainbow frames.

Is it wrong that my eight year old niece has more fashion sense than I do?

  • LOL I thought I was reading my own post there for a second. The same thing just happened to me 2 weeks ago. I only need them for driving, watching TV and pretty much anything far away. I can wear them all the time though and see everything just fine. I understand exactly what you mean by EVERYTHING looking different. I thought everything was just plain and dull before, but now with glasses the trees are so green, and everything is so crisp. It is GREAT!!!! Dont worry about glasses, i thought I would hate them but I kinda like them now. My husband LOVES them he feels like he gets 2 women for 1 lol. He told me I look like sarah palin with the glasses on ( I dont think so at all), but I will let him think what he wants!

Almost 23?  You made it twice as long as I did!  I got glasses in the 6th grade at the tender age of 11. :(  My vision was terrible then and it's only gotten worse.  At the time, I had no idea my vision was bad.  I remember once being at a basketball game in our middle school gym and afterwards my dad asked why I didn't wave at him.  I said, "from the other side of the court?!  Humans can't see that far!"  Hahaha!  The day I walked out of the optometrist's office, it was a whole new world.  You'll be very glad you got glasses/contacts.

Also, don't worry about remembering them and thinking to bring them with you everywhere... it becomes as natural as brushing your teeth.  Would you ever forget to do that? :)

I probably could wear contacts if I wanted to but I don't.  I have dark circles under my eyes that glasses hide way better than any makeup I've ever found.  Plus I have a longish face and high forehead and the glasses break it up pretty well.

  • Welcome to the glasses club! I LOVE my glasses, they are totally a part of me. I feel weird without them, actually.
