Liberals: Anyone else tired of the Palin pile-on?

What I notice on the other E08 is that many don't want to partake in the detailed discussions on issues.  I think it is kind of a reflection of the overall population.  The detailed stuff is too complicated or people don't have an attention span to really learn about the issues.  Instead it is easier to focus on things that people can particpate in and be familiar with.  Post a healthcare thread and it goes untouched, post a thread about whether someone is a racist or a good mother and you will get 100 responses.

Ditto this.  The only issue ever discussed in detail over there is abortion.  That's it.

I take issue with the sentiment of "feeling sorry" for Palin. Do you honestly feel sorry for Bush in the same way you feel sorry for Palin?

Okay, I typed another response that for whatever reason isn't showing up so, I'll try it again. And shorter.

Maybe for me the bottom line or the turning point was that stupid parody song I heard last week. Implying she got the job by being under someone's desk (take that for what you will)? It mocked her children and Bristol's pregnancy too. It was disgusting and awful and I guess it was my turning point. I'll be the first one to say early on I was laughing too...but my threshold's been reached.

If that makes me sexist, so be it.

It's not that you personally are sexist (which I highly, highly doubt), it's that collectively we need to wonder why it is our first response is pity when a woman is under unfair fire but not so when a man is under unfair attack. I don't think anyone pities Bush, but how many editorials have I seen of people passing pity over Palin? (how's that for alliteration!?). It all plays into this idea that she's a delicate flower of a lady and is too fragile to deal with the ugly realities of politics. Which isn't true and it hurts all women to suggest that this is the case.

  • No, not at all.  I don't read E08 so maybe that's why, but I definitely think we should continue to highlight all the many many reasons she is unqualified.  And she keeps on giving us more material to work with.

I think I felt sorry for her a bit in an unsexist way.  It was just a trainwreck that I thought she must personally feel miserable for being so unprepared.  It had nothing to do with her being a woman or a delicate flower and everything to do with empathy for being in such an uncomfortable position when you clearly don't know the answers to what you're being asked.  It reminded me of a couple classes I taught at what was supposed to be an introductory level, but the students were quite advanced, far beyond me, and had all enrolled in the wrong class.  I was miserable.

But, then, I realized she put herself there.  No more sympathy.
