So, okay, I just started modding the Food and Cakes board, and unlike the other boards that I mod/have modded, this one is... well... I have a problem. Now, I know the primary purpose of modding is to keep everything in check, and keep ye olde vendors off, but we're also there to encourage people to chat and stick around, you know? So with a newer board, it can be a challenge to get that conversation flowing, especially when there's someone there who slams down newbies everytime they post a silly question.
Every time this one girl posts, few people post after her because she is seriously abraisive and condescending (not to mention out in left field, IMHO). I'm going to go with loud and ignorant as the best description. Anyway, anyone have some tactics for encouraging new people to post on the board and to keep conversation flowing? Clearly I'm not going to censor her free speech, but ignoring her just means that people don't want to come over and post questions.
She posts over on the reception board too - Laisairiona is her screen name. Are you familiar with her Dani?
If anyone else loves talking about food, I'd love to have more regulars posting over there too.
Re: Advise me oh wise and all knowing mods.
When I feel like a poster is being unnecessarily abrasive, I make sure to post in the same thread in a nicer, more welcoming manner. There's really nothing we could do about knotties who just have a chip on their shoulder, but I've found that most users are willing to ignore that type of poster if they feel she is the minority. Perhaps you can post a few food-related polls that aren't as likely to generate rude responses from the poster. I can't imagine she'd have anything condescending to add to "What's your favorite comfort food?" She might move on if she has fewer opportunities to put down newbies.
I'll come post more on food and cake. I love to eat!

If you have an issue with this member again, can you please send me the thread? Thanks, kaesha.
As far as this board, I think that you may not have regulars per se and that's okay...but you can certainly direct members there with questions about menus, cake, signature drink ideas etc. - which is a huge part of the planning process and such a fun part of it, IMO.
I agree - I think it's potentially a great resource. And I, for one, love talking about food and dreaming about eating food.
Thanks Annie - I'll send you the next one she posts.
