Thanks for all the well wishes! Our little man, Adrian, was born
Thursday (4/8) at 7:18 pm, 10 days
post-due.
Here's a quick recap of our birth:
We were scheduled for an induction on Wednesday afternoon, but went into labor naturally early that morning. We still checked in for the induction, but thankfully we were allowed to labor on our own. Total labor time was 38 hours, 24.5 of those in active/transition labor, and 1.5 for pushing.
I got the epi after 13 hours of active labor -- my contractions were increasingly intense and as close as 2-minutes, but when I got checked, I was just 5 cms. Talk about disappointed. Plus, my body had gone into the "purging" phase -- repeated vomiting, despite having nothing in there -- which was scary, but also good because all the heaving broke my water. Anyhow, after the epi, I immediately fell asleep, and almost 12 hours later, we started pushing. By then, the epi had worn off enough for me to feel my legs and sense the pressure of my contractions, so I was able to feel in some control over the delivery (one of my biggest fears prior).
Adrian's head got stuck for a bit, but soon enough he popped out and DH called it for Team Blue. DS was only able to stay on my belly for a tiny bit because he was whisked away to the nursery for observation -- he had accumulated a lot of fluid/mucus in his lungs and he came out with his cord wrapped loosely around his neck. Thankfully, though, DH soon returned to reassure me that he'd quickly recovered on his own, without intervention.
My OB fixed me up, DH's mom unexpectedly popped in with
my legs still in stirrups (imagine THAT surprise), and not too long
later, the three of us were reunited as a family. Whew, what an
adventure. Of course, we are insanely in love with our boy... it's all
beyond words and such a great blessing. Thank you all for your
thoughts, prayers
and well wishes! We did it!
And good luck to the Lisa's, who
are next!!!
