In your post other day, it sounded like your body is still not cooperating with the running? That sucks :( Have you been able to keep up w/ the class you're doing or are you having to take a break to let your body recover? Sorry to hear you're having such a rough start on running, I know it's something you really want to do.

Re: *Elissa*

  • I went to the doctor about a week ago since my knees and back were so painful.  Before I shelled out $100 for running shoes, I wanted to make sure it was okay for me to actually be running.  He said at least two weeks rest to let my body recover since I had soft tissue injuries in both knees and my back.  I also have antiinflammatory drugs to take for 6 weeks.  So I'm still resting and then planning to start walking slowly next week and then hopefully get back into the C25K program in a month or so.  The class is a no go at this point, but I'm hoping if I can try to start with the walking and some running this summer that I'll be ready for it in the fall.  Thanks for asking!  One day I'll be a nestie runner!
  • Sorry to hear you're out of commission for a bit. Once you've healed a bit, I wonder if walking on an incline (treadmill, obviously) at a brisk pace might be a good transition for you? It would get your heart rate up higher than just walking, work your muscles a little more in preparation for running, and be lower impact. That or using a stationary bike. You're so determined, I know you'll get there someday!
  • Thanks for the tips.  I'm trying very hard to not get too discouraged, especially since I really liked the weight loss I had in the 3 weeks I was running.  So I think I just need to ease into it a bit more than what that class allowed.  Eventually, I'll get there!
