What size is your "outside" trash can?
I know, what a freaking odd question, but I just hired a garbage man (it's privatized in my area for those who are not used to that), and he said we could get away with a 32 gallon. Sadly I can't find any of this size with wheels to buy locally. Guess I'll be dragging the stupid thing instead of rolling it. Or make DH do it.
Anyway.... thanks for any answers you can give.

Re: What size is your "outside" trash can?
Ours is massive and provided by the city (but luckily it has two wheels on the back), so no help on where you can buy one.
Have you looked at Lowe's/Home Depot? I think you'll have way better luck at one of those places than Target or WalMart since they are more specialized in home stuff.

How many times per week is your trash pick up?
Ours is once a week, so we definitely need the gigantic one that they provide to us. We can actually pay an extra monthly fee to have a second one brought to us, but we don't need it. I'm googling now to see if I can figure out how big our city trash cans are.
I'm guessing ours may be even larger than 32 gal. Here is a photo of one that is similar to ours: http://www.myballard.com/images/garbage_night.jpg

Actually I just found this: http://www.naperville.il.us/garbagecarts.aspx
Based on that info...I think our city trash can must be the 95 gallon, because I cleaned the house this weekend and fit at least 4 kitchen size trash bags full plus a big box in there, in addition to some other random trash.
If you are only going to get pick up once a week, I would think you would definitely need something larger than 32 gal! However, if you get trash pick up twice a week, you may be ok.
We recycle, too, and still there are often times when our massive trash can is filled to the brim (depending on the week)!
ETA: I FINALLY found the Huntsville info on trash...ours is def 90 gal.

Eep. What about 50? This one has wheels!

I would probably do a 64 gal at minimum for once/week pick up. Then again, you guys may not produce the trash we do! Haha! I just get annoyed when I have to wait until the big outdoor can is emptied before I can get rid of trash in my house. Right now, for example...after spending all weekend cleaning the house top to bottom...nothing else will really fit until trash picks up tomorrow.
Ryan's cousin that has twin boys and lives a few doors down actually pays an extra fee to have 2 of those massive 90 gal trash cans!
That may be perfect! I think I'd definitely opt bigger than going only 32 gal, so the 50 may be worth giving a shot. The wheels make it a LOT easier too!
And, if you did want to go even bigger and up to a 64 gal...here is another option:

I'm not going to lie...I *may* have 4 pizza boxes in the trash can outside right now. And, no...we haven't had a pizza party recently.
And R was even AWAY this weekend! Damn girl!

LOL! I actually haven't had pizza since he was gone, but during my surgery recovery period we had it twice (and we get two pizzas each time because he likes different stuff), so they were leftover boxes that had been sitting in the fridge. I'm horrible about cleaning it out!

Not to be judgy but this post is making me sad. Recycle, ladies! So many more things are recyclable than you think. Like plastic wrap! We probably have enough trash to make dragging the bin worthwhile every other week. And even then it's not usually totally full.

Who said they don't recycle? Or are you just in shock that some ladies are filling up 90 gallon cans weekly?
On another note, I'm kind of floored a post about trash cans got the most posts of like... the week.

Probably a true statement... we dont recycle at home. I do feel guilty about it but we would have to pay an additional $35 a month (trash is $15 a month) to have recycling picked up. I think its completely idiotic that I should have to pay someone to recycle. So basically I refuse to do it until its included. That said, we do recycle aluminum cans as scrap metal and I take magazines and newspapers into work with me to recycle. But I know there are a ton of other things that should be recycled so I'm not trying to make excuses.

We DO recycle everything that we are able to. Unfortunately we are not allowed to recycle any glass...clear or dark...and we have other limitations too. Everything we can recycle, though, we definitely do. Along with the full trash can that I just pulled to the road, is a blue bin sitting completely full of recyclables waiting to be picked up on Thursday!

No idea! I wish they did since my H runs through a couple of pickle jars a week! They used to accept clear glass only...then they changed it to no glass at all...kind of annoying.
