So, since we have been working on buying a house, several people have made comments about having a housewarming party and setting up a registry for it. Is this weird? I have never heard of registering for a house warming party, but then again, none of our friends have bought houses yet either. DH and I have pretty much decided we don't want to do this but I really just want to know if this is normal and if y'all did such a thing.

I've heard of them - I believe they're an option at Crate & Barrel, etc. - but I have never known anyone to actually register for one, and I would find it pretty tacky if they did.
If you have a housewarming party, people will probably bring you a bottle of wine or something along those lines.

HOSEwarming registry. LOL now, that's a party!!
and i would think registering for housewarming gifts is weird. and tacky.

Tradition aside, I think house-warming registries make more sense than wedding registries. I mean, how many of us have stored unused wedding gifts in their original boxes for months or years while apartment living before we have an actual house to use them in?
But as far as a gift-giving occasion, weddings make more sense to be giving a generous gift than buying a house I guess. And I certainly wouldn't expect to get gifts at a house-warming party.

see, I get this - but then there's no need to actually advertise the registry.
I've heard of them before but think they are uber-tacky.
