How much does your outfit cost?
http://lifestyle.msn.com/your-look/simply-chic-blog-post.aspx?post=af99016c-86bb-4134-82d7-2a7c1d2c2a74>1=32002
This article says the average woman's daily outfit costs $1400. This counts everything from panties to jewelry to purse.
Not counting my wedding ring, I'm SURE I have very few outfits that cost that much!! Maybe I'm cheap (okay, I know I'm cheap).
Shoes - $40
Jeans - $60
Panties - $5
Tank - $8
Bra - $13
Sweater - $20
Earrings - $10
Purse - $150
TOTAL: $306
I think this is a pretty average outfit for me
TJMaxx and Steinmart are my friends! This is the most expensive purse I've ever owned, at that! Granted, my wedding ring would send this number through the roof, but not counting that ... I'm way under $1400.
So ... what are you wearing today?
Re: How much does your outfit cost?
I don't think I've EVER worn an outfit that added up to that!
Shoes- $10
jeans- $30
shirt- $30
bra- $20 (?)
panties- $5
purse- $20
earrings- $10
total- $125
in all fairness I'm just pretty lax today
Shoes - $20
Capris - $30
Shirt - $14
Panties - $3
Bra - $10
No jewelry (besides wedding rings and watch) or purse today
Total $97
I am guessing this is pretty standard for me.
Well, I'm wearing gym clothes right now, so my #s will be skewed:
gym shoes: $100
socks: $2
t-shirt: free from my sister's work
gym shorts: $10
underwear: $2
bra: $20 (I think I got it on sale)
ponytail holder: 20 cents
Total: $134.20
Here's what I have on today (not including wedding rings):
Pants: $30 from Target
Shirt: $12 from Target
Shoes: $20 from Target
Panties: $3 from Target
Bra: $50 from VS..haha..my most expensive item
Earrings: $10 from Target
Tank Top: $10 from GAP Outlet
Purse: $15 from Target
Total: $150
This is definitely my average.
Wow, I highly doubt that any outfit I have would add up to that much money. My work clothes are very casual so it's not a real accurate idea of what an normal outfit would be.
flip flops - $20 from Kohls
work-out shorts - $15
underwear - $7.50 from VS
t-shirt - free from work
bra - $40 from VS
bracelet - $5
total - $87.50
I think the point is that you're supposed to count your wedding/e- ring.
My outfit today including all jewelry and handbag would be about $1200 probably. Not counting what's in the handbag.
But ditto everyone else - my actual clothing is not expensive at all.

It counts jewelry.
So to break it down, the AW wears about $144 in clothing plus undergarments, coat and bag. I think we're pretty average.
I think it's the men's breakdown that surprises me. DH does wear a nice watch, but do majority of men?
EDIT: Nevermind about the last line. I was thinking about it after I posted and sometimes I forget that men wear slacks/ suits/ nice shirts/ ties. DH wears jeans or shorts when off work, uniform when on.
Well my wedding ring puts me way over that number. I feel kinda ridiculous asking (or sharing myself) how much everyone's wedding ring cost, so that's why I went without wedding rings. If you don't mind sharing, go for it!
My husband's daily jewelry is over the men's average.
1 oz white gold necklace - we paid $400 for it years ago, lucky us it's worth more now.
. And when he does buy some, they are cheap.
His watch was $600.
His wedding band was $500.
His jeans (he always buys the same Levis) are $50.
His underwear and socks, well we won't go down that road. They're so old they're probably free by now
His shoes run around $100, unless he's wearing his beloved Lucchese boots. Those were on clearane for $500
His shirts are cheap. He lives in $7 Walmart v-necks or Macy's $30 button ups.
And that's pretty much his uniform.
I do have some expensive daily-wear jewelry. Jewelry is really my thing, rather than shoes or purses. But even with $300 earrings on, my daily outfit is waaaay under that $1400 number. But on a regular basis? My "other" jewelry averages about $20 a piece.
I don't think that article should've counted jewelry. Of course it's going to be a high number, especially for married/engaged women.
All I've done today is run to Lowes so I'm wearing:
cotton workout shorts $10
tshirt $20?
flip flops $15
my underwear was free from one of those VS free panty coupons and my bra is from the american apparel outlet and was like $5.
For a grand total of $50.
(I'm not saying how much my handbag cost, lol!)
I want to win an award today for cheapest outfit. Mind you, I'm at home and the only place I'm going is to pick up DS from MDO. Maybe to a splashpark later.
T-shirt I've had since HS - $0 (parents paid)
shorts - $10 from Academy
sandals - $0, hand-me-down from sister
bra - $60
panties - none, TMI?
I have my wedding rings on and I honestly don't know how much the e-ring was, my Aggie ring, cheap stud earrings and a plastic headband.
Do I win the slacker outfit of the day prize?
Hahaha! Oh, come on!
ROFLMAO at that!
Shoes: $15 (Shoe Carnival)
Jeans: $10 (from Ebay)
T-shirt: $7
Unders: $2 and $8
Watch: $15
Toe ring: $3
Necklace: Free (it was a present)
Earrings: Heirloom (passed down by my grandmother)
Purse: $8
Lanyard: $5
TOTAL: $73
Wow! I'm more expensively dressed than I thought!
eta: I hardly ever wear my wedding ring to work because I work with clay, paint, etc., but the ring would only add around $100 to the total anyway.
Hmm.. I'm working from home today, and actually bothered to put on clothes so I can go to the store:
Flip Flops - $25 (they're soft!)
Shorts - $15
Shirt - $20
Bra -$15 (VS sales are good to me)
Panties - $5 (Hey, if K is out of town, I'm wearing the ones from Target!)
Purse - $200 (but it was a gift, so does that count?)
No jewelry because .. well, I forgot. Total is $80 without purse, $280 with. :P
I just realized I never buy anything full price. It's an illness!
Shoes: $50 (black pumps from DSW, bought with coupon)
Pants: $35 (navy pinstripe dress pants from Ann Taylor outlet, on sale)
tank: $7 (navy, dressy, AT outlet, on sale)
shirt: $8 (purple wrap shirt, BR outlet on sale & I bought it without trying it on)
panties: $5 (granny panties bought at gap like 10 years ago)
bra: $40 (gap bra, hey! not on sale! evidently I splurge on bras??)
necklace: free (amethyst beads, gift from mom)
earrings: $30 (fake diamond studs, bought at AT 7 years ago)
purse: $40 (brown leather, DSW w/ coupon)
So, at $215, I'm probably slightly higher than average. But, almost everything I'm wearing (excluding bra, tank & shirt) is at least a year old. Evidently, I am cheap when it comes to buying work clothes on sale and wearing them into the ground!
Rarely Updated Blog
We did this on MM last week.
Shirt: $30
Pants: $130
Shoes: $40
Sweater: $100
Undergarments: $60
Necklace: $500(?)
Purse: $185
So that's $1045, and if you thrown my rings in and it goes way over.
My Bio (wedding pics added 7/6)
My 101
Hmmm, well I'm in pjs right now, but I'll count yesterday's outfit:
Underwear: $18 (loves me some Hanky Pankies)
Shorts: $30
Top: $40
Bra: $55 (only because my size exists only in ridiculously expensive brands)
Shoes: $130
Handbag: maybe $800 (?) but it was a gift so I have no idea
Jewelery not incl. wedding rings: $1800
So if you count jewelery other than wedding rings, $2873. If you don't count the handbag then about $2000.
When I had a corporate job and had to buy suits, my daily total was much more. Suits are expensive, even the "affordable" ones at Express, Ann Taylor, etc.
I would never wear clothes that cost that much! Crazy!
Shoes: flip flops - $25
Capris: $25
Shirt: $20
Bra: $40
Underwear: $5
Purse: $30
Necklace: $50
Total: $195 (not counting my wedding rings)
Here's why my current outfit cost.
Shorts - $17.99
Tank - $10.00
Cardigan - $19.99
Bra - $16.99
Panties - $6.00
Flip-flops - $26.00
Purse - $107
Total = $203.97
ETA: Now that I know the article includes jewelry, then the cost of my current outfit shoots up to about $10,500!
I think I go way over this every day, but here's today:
Jeans- $90
Top- $70
Bra- $40
Undies- $18 (but I got them in a pack of 5 for $82...so maybe $16 is more like it)
Shoes- $200
Purse- $400
Earrings- $2000
Neckalce- $500
Grand Total: $3318
I guess when you look at it like that, it seems a little excessive...but it really was jewellery that put it over the top.
Hmm...
Shirt - $0 (button down my grandma bought me my senior year of high school [embarrassing])
Pants - $25 Target
Bra - $60
Panties - $12
Shoes - $15
Earrings - $30
Necklace - $99
Non E/W Ring - $300
Purse - $20
Total - $561
This sounds exactly like my husband.
Amy
This is interesting.
jeans - 40
t-shirt- 15
panties - 7
bra - 15
socks - 4?
shoes - 17
no jewelry except wedding band
Total - 98 if I've done my math right...more than I thought!
I'm not really surprised by that number.
My outfit today is pretty standard for the summer for me (in the winter it's more because of my jeans and boots)-
FlipFlops - $30 (Teva- arch support!)
Shorts - $30 (Gap)
Underwear - $3ish (Old Navy)
Bra - $72, including alterations to make it nursing friendly
T-Shirt - $10 (Old Navy)
Necklace - $200 (James Avery, it NEVER comes off)
Earrings - $0 (Gift from my Dad when I was 17; they also never come off)
Watch - $1100 (also a gift, but from DH. Movado = worth every single penny, I swear. If I every lose it I will be heartbroken, in part because we can't afford to replace it.)
Wedding Rings - Not sure. DH didn't tell me and I didn't ask. :-)
So $145 not including any jewelery, $1445 not including my rings.
When I worked in an office environment I think it was much higher, due to suits and such.
Shirt: $9
Shorts: $15
Underwear: gift = free
Bra: $50
Flip flops: $5
Bag: $25 or 30 can't remember
Jewelry: My average set is priceless as I can't get my claddagh elsewhere.
Grand total: $104 + jewelry
*101 Blog*foodie blog*scrapbooking blog*
Dress: OldNavy $30
Sandals: $115
Underwear: $40 (about)
Watch : $550
Jewelery (wedding band, cocktail ring, necklace) : $1500 (about)
Purse: $3000 (no flames please!!)
Total : $5235
Okay, if you have a handbag that's over $500, can you tell me what kind? I'm not judging. Many bags on my "lust" list are well over $1000, but I've never been able to get past the Big Names (LV, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, etc.) to discover something unique.
So I'm just wondering what y'all have and how you like them. No flames. Promise!
I don't think the handbag should count. Mine is a mortgage payment. HOWEVER, I have also used it for almost 3 years.
So...
Dress: $100
Shoes: $80
Earrings: $30
Cardigan: $50
Bra: $15
Unders: $5
$280. This is probably average for me on a work day.
None! I love it! Can we see it?
Now I am curious what's in your handbag!?! an expensive wallet perhaps?
