Re: Hump Day Already randoms

  • Vegas was flipping amazing.  I haven't had that much fun in a really long time.
  • I'm glad you had fun in Vegas.

I left town for the weekend.  Nice and relaxing to get away.

  • Yay for Vegas fun!  Did you gamble or just see the sites and indulge yourselves?

3 Day week for me and I'm off to DC on Friday to help my friend move.  Woot!

  • Did anyone hear the story on FBHW this morning about the Irish/Scottish/notsurefromwhere couple who had a kid and then found out they were 1/2 brother and sister?

    Here's the story: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1282575/Couple-discover-siblings-Child-courts-blamed-strangers-fall-love-son--half-brother-sister.html#ixzz0pPxNYvKr

I did hear about that.  My take on if they should split or stay together:  I think could/should stay together as long as they don't have any more kids.  I mean, they already had a kid and the damage has been done.   It's weird and sort of gross, but what can you do about it now?  I do think that it would be very irresponsible if they had more children. If they stay together, they should vow to not have any more children.  It seems like the only right thing they can do if they stay together.

Both.  Our friend from Florida met us there, and on Saturday he won $1,000.  He and I and another friend got seperated from the rest of the group Saturday night and went crazy!  Haha.  We spent most of his winnings, and had a blast doing it.  Big Smile  Then on Sunday he taught me how to play Craps, and now I'm pretty much addicted.  So fun.

I feel pretty much the same.  I have a feeling though that eventually they will decide to go their separate ways, it just seems like that would always be in the back of your head and would wear on you eventually.

Sweet!  I also learned how to play craps in Vegas and totally love it. :-)

I think I would immediately split if I found that information out.  I wouldn't be able to handle it.

I agree. I don't think I could passionately kiss someone and think,  "Wow, I just kissed my brother" every time.

  • That story about the Irish couple is crazy.  And, yeah, no way I could stay with him after finding out he's my brother.  What an awful situation.

Here's one line from the story: "However, the court ruled that James should not be told who his real father was or be given access to him."  I think its insane that the court system has a say in what the kid is told about his father.

  • Molly, glad to hear that you had a fun Vegas trip!

Crazy story, but what I enjoyed even more was reading the Irish reporting. Such a totally different style of writing...such a completely different approach to journalism.

Speculation? Sure! We don't feel like actually doing research!

"It was the late 1980s and no doubt court cases like this were few and far between."

Inserting colorful adjectives that express the writer's point of view? Why not?

"This disturbing case was first raised by MoS columnist John Waters,"

  • I am really bumming about the state budget cuts to libraries.  We can no longer request audio books to be transferred between libraries.  Also, I can now only place books on hold at the library listed on my card.  I usually pick up books from the Spring Lake library and now I'll have to go to the one in Muskegon for holds.

I can adjust to both of these cuts in service, it's just kind of inconvenient and sad.  I hate budget cuts to services I use!

That does stink.  I mean, they have to cut somewhere and an inconvenience for library patrons must have been better than their other options - but that still stinks.

I suppose services like education are more important than my convenience, but it's so easy to be selfish about it.  I happen to be a library patron, but probably won't have kids, so the library cuts affect me more.

Even if you don't have kids, I would be concerned about educating the future.  It may not affect you directly, but someday those kids will grow up and be your banker, congressman, etc.

  • My dad (and brother and mother...) came to look at our house last night.  My dad used to build houses so he is pretty good about catching things that the builders or owners cheaped out on, what they did good, estimates for updating, etc.  He said the house was great - they didn't cheap out on anything bone-wise, has a great electrical system, water heater, and furnace, used expensive cabinets, etc.  He told me what needs fixing, too.

We are meeting with the loan officer today to get the loan going.  I am getting really nervous about this.  And freeburgers vent post isn't helping.  Ahhhhhhhh.  I'm scared we aren't making the right decision!  Tongue Tied

What?! Does this mean whenI request a book it has to go to GRPL instead of tje Walker Library like I normaly use?

The change is going to be effective June 28th and you'll probably want to check with your local library, but if it's the same there as it is here, if you have a GRPL card, you'll have to pick up all holds at GRPL.  Also, you won't be able to request audio books to be transferred from another library.

  • I am feeling very grouchy today.  Work is annoying, I wish it was Friday.  Some future vacation planning is not working out how I want it to.  Grrr!

Thank goodness for a short week.

  • My boss had a heart attack on Friday.  He's only probably lower 40's, 4 kids, 2 in HS and 2 in MS.  He's a little overweight and has joked about the fact he doesn't like vegetables or exercise - but this still surprised me.  I'm hoping this is a good wakeup call for him.

Yikes!  Glad it seems to have been pretty minor and I agree that hopefully this is a good wakeup call.

It's not all lifestyle that contributes to heart attacks. My uncle was 50 when he had one. He played semi-pro football, ran everyday, didn't eat much red meat, lifted weights... it was just genetics.

Oh yeah, for sure genetics plays a part too.  But his habits certainly weren't helping his cause.

  • Yeah, it's like when those 18 y.o, star athletes on the basketball team or football team die from sudden heart attacks.  That's def not lifestyle, and has to be something else.  That is terrifying!

There was a student intern here in my building that died one night on her evening run.  Out of the blue, no explanation.  It was shocking.  I didn't know her, but still, very scary.

Hopefully your coworker starts taking some steps in the right direction to try to prevent any more problems - be it caused by lifestyle or genetics or both.  That seems so young to deal with that kind of thing.
