When you were a kid, did you eat at the table as a family? All the experts seem to say it's what you should do, but I know most of my friends families didn't.

We ALWAYS ate at the table. It was really important to my parents. I loved it because it was the one time we were all together for the day. There was NEVER a dull moment!
I have thought about what we'll do, how to keep it fun and relaxed and how we'll keep the conversation flowing... one suggestion was to have a box of index cards and have each person say the highlight of their day then at the end of the year you can go back and read about it. I think that's a really fun idea.
We always ate at the table. I can remember doing this even when I was in high school. My sister and I had to wait for my parents in our high school years because they commuted 2.5 hours one way. My sister and I were the ones making dinner most nights.
My dad always liked the TV off so we could actually talk about each others days but that didn't fly with us. There was always some show to entertain us all!!
I miss those days!
We usually ate at a table in the kitchen and sometimes at the more "formal" table in the dining room (although that was usually only on special occassions).
This is something I want to address in our family now...we have a small kitchen table but my DH has been using it as a desk/study area so we never eat at it. We have a dining table but it takes up too much space in our "great room" which is dinky so it's not accessible for more than one person to sit/eat at a time. Now that we're looking to start Libby on solids I want us to find a way to have everyone around the table for a meal. Right now we either eat in shifts or sit in the living room with plates on our laps.
