How many first time buyers shows can you have? Now there's a House Hunters: First Time Buyer? Too much.
Re: Dear HGTV
I agree.
they need more shows w/Mike Aubrey. I love that man. and more Holmes on Homes!

I love Moving Up! Definitely more of that, and if there was a new episode of Sarah's House and Dear Genevieve on every day I couldn't get enough.
I hate all of the house buying shows. I already have a house, dude. Not interested.

I prefer Yard Crashers on DIY. I always look for Amad when I'm at my local Home Depot/Lowes hoping he's looking for a yard to crash.
The stuff I learned on HOH came in handy when we were building our house but I always hate the tile/slate he uses, it's too dark for my style.
I miss Decorating Cents. I like when the budget is $500 - $1000. What was the other show where they would copy a design from a magazine - was that Sensible Chic?
I love Moving Up too, even though it's usually people appalled that the old homeowners' tacky, ugly style does not match their new tacky, ugly decorating.
I like looking at houses, but I do wish there was more how to design your space shows. That color wheel show came close but I didn't care for the decorator.
Yes! I had all these ideas for our guest room for example, but once it came to executing it, I didn't know what to do.

They need more international shows/episodes of existing shows. There's only so much of Toronto and Atlanta suburbs that a girl can take.
Agreed. I like the concept of that show, but the lady bugs. It's great to see some color combos that aren't the norm on there though.
I like Candice Olsen too, but I always seem to catch the episodes that seem like they were shot in 1996.
The nerve!

It is crazy how many home buying shows they have. While I watch them, I seriously question why. The shows raise my blood pressure.
I don't know if I mentioned this already, but when I had the contract fall through on my condo a couple of weeks ago, the buyers' agent said that her clients "watched too much HGTV" and expected too much from our local market. Therefore, I have a grudge against HGTV right now (yes, this is entirely irrational). Just stick to making homes pretty damn it.

i'm pretty sure a lot of people don't have 40K to drop on a down payment
I like HOH for educational purposes. It's more of a cautionary tale than entertainment.
Regular House Hunters doesn't really do it for me anymore. I am an International-only girl. Except a lot of the vacation homes ones I don't like so much, for the same reason I don't love regular HH; insanely rich people choosing which McMansion/castle they want. I can't relate and they also don't seem to be making any hard choices. And either version, I get irrationally angry when the "2 months/6 months/whatever later" segments don't have significant changes from when the people bought the house. I feel cheated. If they haven't even painted, I feel murderous.
That's the only house buying show I seek out. The other ones I watch are the remodeling ones like Bang for Your Buck and My House is Worth What. You can get a lot of decorating ideas from those, and I appreciate knowing what investments are better than others.

We didn't put 20% down. Flame away.
I think 20% is actually pretty uncommon for first timers.
Fenton, I really like Bang for Your Buck. And What You Get For the Money is cool, but I hate the host. And the two times I've seen a house in Baton Rouge, they were totally not representative of what you actually get here.

ha... um, yeah. pretty much. welcome to America.
I don't know that many people who do have 20% to put down. House Hunters is boring now too since I know all the secrets.

I do not think 20% is the norm at all. My most money conscious friends put down 10%.

duplicate. .
leave me alone. the nest hates me today
I don't think it is these days. That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that they always seem to buy at the top, and often over, their budget.
Nestthis. I hate that! I always wonder how many of these over-budget chuckleheads get forclosed on. We need a follow-up show-- House Hunters:Down and Out

When we bought our house, we put 40% down, the paralegal calculated the mortgage payment wrong twice because she just couldn't comprehend we were putting that much down. She kept saying "but are your sure, no one does that anymore"
We were lucky, we had proceeds from the sale of my house in NY and were buying a house in South Carolina.
Although if we hadn't had that, we would have waited to buy, paying PMI every month would piss me off.
