Re: Dear HGTV

  • i didn't realize all those Canadian shows were shown in the US.   Dammit, give us some Target!

  • I agree that HGTV needs some fresh blood or something. I have zero interest in any of the shows anymore, though that may change when we sell the condo and house hunt.

True story: I met Mike Holmes backstage at a Canadian awards show, and he was just as rugged and burly in person, and super friendly.  Me likes.

  • oh jens, color me jealousE. i just want to hug him. I dig the overalls.

  • Pink, that was the best part- he was wearing his overalls, because he was doing a bit on the show, so he was in his handyman garb.

It was like a Mike Holmes sneak attack.  I was working with a small record label, and was "handling" some of our artists for the awards stuff. I was standing at a radio booth waiting for my artist to be done interviewing, and someone walked up and stood next to me. I looked up and BAM, it's Mike Holmes. I didn't lose my cool and get overtly excited, but I said pretty stupid things, including "You're just as tall as I thought you'd be". Obviously he was very charmed by me.

As far as I can tell, HGTV is 65% Canadian, 20% Atlantan, and 15% other random places.

DH and I love HGTV, but totally agree on the too many homebuying shows. The property virgin lady is so annoying "So their budget is 200K, and they have a down payment of 10K, so we'll be looking at houses starting at 210 K " ummmm. no.

I like the decorating on a budge type shows, but they seem to be few and far between. Apparently it is more exciting to watch somebody buy a shed on a tropical island that has no indoor plumbing on HHI.

Yes. Is that how it works?  The bank loan plus the down payment?  It seems wrong to me.

Despite biitching about them, I've just watched two first time buyers show.  On the first, the H almost insisted on buying a house with a sewer flooded basement and black mold.  Now, the couple has failed to know they have to pay closing costs and don't seem to have the money.

Yes - saw the first episode. I don't really get what the DH was thinking.

Also, just because you are KU, does not a "home buying emergency" make. I can't imagine trying to buy a house in the 3rd trimester.

FWIW,  We bought our house with a 3 month old, and I would choose that decision a million times over trying to settle in a new house right before delivery.

    LOL @ Holmes sneak attack.

Oh my goodness, I probably would have peed myself. Did he tell you to keep smiling?
