Re: U (were) Doin It Rong
I was about 19 or 20 when I realized that misled was, you know, mis-led. I always read it as missile-d. Huge aha moment when I realized they were the same word.
I guess I never used it out loud, or else people thought I was an idiot.
The nerve!

I think if I were out to dinner and anyone used the word hegemony I would just laugh.
They're both PhD candidates. There's no stopping them when they get together. Probably b/c their wives give them blank stares and can't pronounce hegemony.
Quin-noah?
Whenever I say quinoa I overpronounce it like I'm suddenly Giada DeLaurentis or something. KEEEEEN-waaaaa
Mainly because it annoys Brett so much.

Yeah. My SIL made this delicious dish with quinoa and I asked what it was and she told me and I said, "What the hell is 'keen wah'?" And she said, "You probably call it kwin-oh-uh, I did too until the guy at the grocery store laughed at me."
Excellent, I wasn't the only one!
ETA: Actually, I'm ashamed to admit it, but my a-ha moment re. this word wasn't that long ago. I'm 35.
I USED to think I was a whizz at the language-of-Engerland.
I JUST read this on perezhilton about Carrie Underwood's wedding. Notice the bold part (although the grammar throughout is sub par.) DUR.
****
When Carrie Underwood says 'I Do' on Saturday to hockey player Mike Fisher, it's gonna cost half a million dollars!
The ceremony will be held at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, in Greensboro, Georgia and the couple booked out the entire hotel totaling $268,000 for the night.
?She has blocked off all 251 rooms at the hotel,? said Carey Williams, editor of The Herald Journal in Greensboro.
Guests of the hotel who were not invited to the wedding were given letters requiring that they leave the premises by 12pm on Friday.
Carrie and Mike will spend their first night as husband and wife in the Presidential House, which costs $4,000 a night. It is a 5,400 square-foot suite comes with two king-size rooms and two double bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, terrace with access to the recreation room, private pool, living room and dining room which seats 16 people.
?Carrie will be flying in by helicopter on Friday,? added Williams.
A tent has been resurrected on the ground and along with the waterways near the hotel, no one will be able to peer at the bride.
