How is everyone this morning?
What's new with everyone? Have any big weekend plans? Have anything random to say? Any confessions?
Re: How is everyone this morning?
I'm doing okay. I took two hard falls in broomball last night so both of my hips are sore. I get to see a friend who is in town from AZ tonight and I'm excited about that. :-)
And this weekend is Belligerent Camping - so I'm looking forward to that as well.
I am very tired today. I did not sleep well and I blame my husband. He kicked me, elbowed me and scratched me last night. At one point I thought that he removed skin. When I woke up I thought it was Wednesday.
On a good note, my talented co-worker put together a bouquet of flowers for me! It is so pretty!
This weekend I will be melting while I attempt to play golf. My work is having an employee tournament. I don't really golf.
I will also be doing laundry.
How nice - Happy Birthday! :-)
We're having our neighbors over for dinner tonight. They were gone all weekend to a funeral out of state, so I figured they would appreciate an easy evening and not have to cook.
Our dishwasher was leaking yesterday. We're not sure if the seals just need to be cleaned, or if they need to be replaced. Hopefully they just need to be cleaned.
Does anyone else copy their boss on all the emails they send? Mine wants me to copy them on everything I send out claiming it keeps her 'in the loop'. I'm not sure I buy the 'in the loop' thing. I just find it kind of odd. I'll continue to do it to keep them happy, but it kind of annoys me for some reason. Thoughts?
Nope. I think my boss' inbox is crowded enough w/o all the emails we need to send out to people.
grumpy, tired, sick of work, sick of being sick and miss my girls. on a bright note, because my parents have the girls Brian and I get a date night tonight.
I just have to make it through a big event at work this week, do a self-review, my yearly reivew, and gulp...meet with someone to talk about how things are going here at work and management. By next Wednesday evening, I will be on vacation for a week and a half. Whoo hooo.
That's tough. When they told you that you shouldn't do X, I would have said "I was trying to take more initiative like we discussed the other week." Maybe you should run it by the boss before you do a task they haven't told you to do yet just to be safe. "Oh I saw that X hadn't been done so I was going to do that if that's okay by you."
Deeder, have you looked into local scholarships? I know in my area, there are a few specifically for "older" women going back to school. Not that you're old, but you know what I mean
)
Yay for date night and upcoming vaca!
Ouch!
I fell at my mom's house on Sunday and rolled my right ankle (it's extremely swollen) and I'm fairly certain I broke my left pinky toe.
It hurt (still does) but was more embarrassing than anything. Thankfully no one actually saw me fall. Ha.
Part of me thinks that they have too much time on their hands and find it necessary to pick apart everything I do. I haven't been doing anything differently, and that's what bothers me. A month ago, they would have asked me why I hadn't done X and shouldn't wait for them to ask, now they're all of the sudden they want me to wait to be asked. Why all of the sudden the change in attitude towards me?
My boss likes to be copied on a lot of things, but not everything. I would maybe try to discuss with your boss if there are peticular types of emails that they would like to be informed about.
You could always just overload his/her email inbox
I'm so tired . . . was out too late with my blogger friends at the Green Well. I have a LOT of cooking to do . . . 100+ recipes before the end of August in order to finish the cookbook. This weekend I'm going to a fun food event that I won tickets to.
I'm working on a spreadsheet to populate a West Michigan edition of simpletastygood.com and it is taking forever. I had no idea there were so many farms / local food resources!
I also have some articles I should be working on. Too much going on.
I have been :-)
See though, are you sure they want you to wait until asked, or do they just want you to ask before they ask? And not just do it without at least asking them first? Does that make sense and did I just set a record for the number of times someone said "ask" in a statement?
Andy almost hit a deer on the motorcycle on his way to work yesterday.
He saw the deer in the field and started to slow in case it darted in front of him. It indeed decided to dart in front of him. He locked up his brakes, missed the deer by inches, and because he locked up he almost tipped. Thankfully he was okay, but he was pretty shaken up with the close call. It's times like those that his motorcycle scares the s out of me too.
They specifically said in an informal review that 'normal' tasks should be done without being asked, I should just know what needs to be done and do it without waiting to be asked. I don't need to wait to be asked anymore now that there is a set routine established for my position. This is why I'm confused.
It seems like things I've been doing for months are all of the sudden done wrong. Why are they waiting until now to tell me what I'm doing wrong? I feel like I can't win. Did they all of the sudden realize that what they taught me was the wrong way?
I would give it a little time - how long has this been happening? If it hasn't been long, maybe they're just moody and being picky at the moment. See if it goes away.
If it persists, I would set up a meeting to get a clear sense of what needs to be done. Frame it in a constructive way like, "I feel like I've been disappointing you lately and I want to make sure that doesn't happen in the future." And then outline the instances to explain your confusion and try to set out some clear guidelines.
Some people just suck at giving constructive criticism and distributing work.
It's only been a week, so maybe they are just moody. It's just very strange. They went from happy-go-lucky, and talking to me like normal, to scolding me for little things, and no contact at all. I'll see how things go the rest of the week.
AAAH! My cousin was killed in a deer/motorcycle crash the week before my wedding. It was terrible. Those things are so dangerous! Thankfully Andy sounds like he's a very alert rider.
I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. :-( Andy is very alert, but it's never his ability I worry about - other drivers and animals happen no matter how good the driver. We've gone back and forth about selling it for awhile now. :- /
I haven't check anything local, didn't even think about it. I was looking to see if the state has anything left. I'll see if I can find something more local. Thanks for the tip.
I copy him to keep him on the loop, but not every email. It depends on the client, the nature of the work, things like that. Often times, clients will by-pass the partner and give things to me directly. I copy/foward him, so that he's aware of what i'm working on for the client.
I would give it some time then. My boss turned into a crap a$$ for a few days. Nothing I did was right, constant yelling, F-words and all. A week or so later they announced an upcoming merger.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
