Finn is a toddler now and I think things are a little different.  She doesn't quite say he's wearing diapers but I think it might be the case.

(A note about how EC is going ... we're currently experiencing a lack of interest in the potty. Ever since Finn started walking, he's been less concerned with signaling to use the potty, and that's cool (and also quite normal for EC-ers!) He still sits down a few times a day to read books with us, and we still catch most number 2's because that happens somewhat predictably upon waking, but for now, potty time is on the back burner!)

Yes, and I see that she knitted him some wool soakers, which I think is just a fancy way of saying "diaper cover".

    11/11/11 = 5 years. Woah!

I kind of like the branch with the birds though.

I'm making those birds to use in a mobile for the baby. I love them.

So he sits down to read a book and poops on the floor? What?

of course he doesn't poop on the floor, didn't you read where she says they catch them?  I think they follow him around with a fishing net.

I bet it's like the cup on a stick Cali had to make to get some of Maggie's dog pee for the vet.

No, no, no.  It's not as primative as that.  They have several different potty seats.  That way, Finn can learn that he can sit down and do his business no matter where in the house he is.

Kid's gonna be a hoot at sleepovers.

  • I thought the EC area was a dog bowl.
  • Finn is going to be mighty f'd up.

Sorry. But I think finn might be one of those kids you get at birthday parties who sees a hot dog and bursts into tears. My friend had one of these kids over for a 5th birthday party and his mom kept washing his hands and face and apologizing and telling everyone he wasn't used to fake food.

    Indifferent My god.

  • Yes.  Fake food is indeed scary.  See Moo's post to November for evidence.

  • It's a very pretty room.

I never want to use the phrase "catch poop" when talking about my children. Particularly if I have to catch poop while nursing. Ughhhhh. NO.

And I know Montessori people are supposed to be all free thinking and whatnot, but it seems pretty regimented to me. This is the work area. This is the crap on the floor area. This is the nursing area (which looks uncomfortable to me and I bet hardly got used).

I have gotten that same impression.  They seem to compartmentalize every daily task.

On the flip side, my brother took his kids to a Montessori.  One of the little boys kept getting very aggressive toward one of my nephews.  My brother went to the director several times, and every time, they would launch into their philosophy crap about letting the kids explore.

Uh, yeah.  One kid's exploration is another kid's torment.  Back the eff off kid.
