Mine too! I also hated the term 'rents.

    YES!

It was a sad day when I realized most of those stories were probably made up.

  • Ooo ooo, I thought of my own YM story:

I was probably 14/15 when we went camping.  Each of us got to bring a friend.  Well, there just to happened to be 3 very cute boys working at the campground, so my friend and I kept very busy stalking them and trying to get their attention.  It finally worked, and at some point we ended up in the trailer they were staying in on the grounds.  The others wandered off so it was just me and this guy, Joey.  We start kissing, but little Miss Good Girl isn't so experienced at full fledged making out and French kissing.  I ended up biting his tongue by accident.  I was mortified.

I played it off later that I did it on purpose to get him off me (after I found out he had kissed my friend mere minutes earlier), but it was really because I was a bumbling doofus.

  • When I make chicken tikka masala I make the sauce in advance, then broil the chicken before dinner. This is the recipe I use:

Also, Owen is a loud and frustrated pooper. It takes him upwards of half a day of lead time to get the poo going. It's getting better though.

  • i found doing the bicycle with Lila's legs helped the poop.

  • gah i am so embarrassed for awkward cali.

krisen he has always made noise and whined but this was inconsolable crying with a stiffened body and arched back. ugh, my heartstrings.

I did that once, only I legit wanted the guy off me, so good cover, young Cali!

Yesterday at the pool I saw a 12-13 year old girl shamelessly flirting/stalking the lifeguard. I was cringing so hard for her.

  • Poor guy. It sucks when they are uncomfortable and we can't do anything to help.
    image Ready to rumble.

  • All my mom friends have said that the shots are worse on mom than baby. Stay strong. :(

  • Ugh. I make Mike hold the kids when it's shot time. I can't do it.

Don't buy into the hype that they are a mess after 2 month shots, Owen was fine. Just tired. And I assume this is common knowledge now but they don't suggest giving tylenol after the shots (which they were suggesting just 2 years ago for Maggie so it was news to me) unless they are really miserable or fever-y as it can have an impact on efficacy.

    image Ready to rumble.
  • Bring a big soft blanket to wrap him in after the shots.
  • Someone charged a bunch of money to my department credit card at places like Hot Topic and record stores. It will be fun to try to get this sorted out before I go on maternity leave.

News to me (not that it matters now anyhow), but unfortunately, I have to disagree about the shots.  Connor was definitely miserable after his first shots.

  • Is it wrong that I found Miles to be very funny when he got his 2 month shots?  He was so busy flirting with the nurse, cooing and smiling, that it took him a second to realize he had been hurt.  Then he turned a vibrant shade of reddish purple, and started his silent scream (when his face contorts into a scream but no noise comes out).  The noise eventually comes, but only after he's taken a huge breath to really put his all into it.

He had a very low grade fever that night, so I gave him infant tylenol and then he was out.  Easy peasy.

6 month shots were much harder and the effects lasted a few days.

you were buying goth baby clothes for evey, weren't you?

  • Oh Winged, I'm so sorry you're having a rough time.

Maybe it won't be so bad for the little guy.

  • Miles' reaction is exactly Ian's reaction -- to a T.  Before the cry comes out he looks at me as if to say, "WTF?  Why did you let them do that?"

Kristen's right about the Tylenol.  "They" say not to give it, but our pediatrician doesn't have a problem with it.  The nurses have actually given us a free bottle at each appointment.

  • I got my TDAP shot two weeks ago and I didn't cry.  Where's my lollipop?

Or be prepared to whip out the boob.  That was my go-to calm-Connor-after-shots for a while.  Too bad they grow out of that.

  • Maggie was a bit more of a mess after 2 month but in retrospect I think I was looking for that reaction so I freaked and made it worse. And she doesn't cry with shots. It's so strange. Owen did fine with his heel prick for jaundice but freaked his freak at the 2 month shots for about 2 minutes, then he was fine.

  • Ryker does the purple face silent scream. That is what started his poomergency this morning.
  • Kay, that's so funny.  Miles has given me his "Et tu, Brute?" look each time we get shots.  Oh, and I will say that I've never heard you're not supposed to use infant Tylenol after the shots.

Winged - I am sorry you're having a rough day.  There were times when Miles would rattle me with his hysterical crying in those early months.  It was really mainly gas related and once his system got the kinks worked out, it all got better.

  • And thanks ladies. It is reassuring to hear from other moms today.
  • Andy never had a bad reaction to his shots.  Let me rephrase that.  Andy never had a bad reaction after we left the doctor's office.  He would scream bloody murder when he got the shots.

Andy has now developed a fondness of screaming for fun (or if he hears the dreaded N(o) word).  My husband has stories everyday of being at the park or store and being "that dad" with "that kid."  My personal favorite is when I pick him up for bath time or bed and he screams right in my ear.  I may be deaf soon.

  • I just came across a guy with the last name Buttray.

    I'm 12.

  • Buttray is giving me bethietears.  Perhaps Noisy can make us a Paint interpretation of what a buttray might look like?

  • I'm picturing a very frazzled man insisting, "It's not BUTT-ray, it's buh-TRAY!"
    image
  • I want someone to create the Buttray family crest.
