We've had nothing but bad news and meetings all week. BUT we're going into a meeting any minute now (literally sitting here waiting for the call) and we'll know for sure whether or not it's happening tonight. If so, we close by Friday because the house goes into foreclosure August 1st. It'll feel good to not worry about this crap anymore!

  • I am in school full time so I don't bring anything in, HH is my sugar daddy. I graduate before he does though so in a year and a half I will be brinng in all the money because he will be doing a nonpayed internship.

  • I'm finishing my degree right now, so clearly he make more because I am making nothing. But when I do get a job in a couple months, he will still be making more but our salaries will be pretty close.

I just did Huntsville vs NY, NY... holy effing ***!!  Overall COL is 137% higher and cost of housing is 406% higher!!!

welcome to my life! I love NY, yea yea yea! GRRR We have mortgage, student loans for both and credit cards! FML :)

  • This post is so interesting! I answered "50/50" because our actually salaries (and benefits) are very similar, but I forgot that DH does off-duty work and makes more than I do when you consider that extra $$.  He's a police officer with a take-home car, which saves a LOT on gas $$.  We also BOTH work for the government, so we get free health insurance.  I've only worked for one year and he's worked for 2-3, so we don't make a ton, but we're doing just fine, considering that we're only 23!

  • Stu- I hate you too. Our PG&E (gas & electricity) was over $400 last month. Ugh. I wanted to cry.

I make just about 60% of our household income.  My job also provides the benefits (I work for a com. college).

  • We make pretty much 50/50, but if I work overtime, of course I make more.  Plus, I just got a part time job in addition to my regular job, and the pay rate is $33/hr, so that will significantly add to my income.  Unfortunately, I came into the relationship with more debt than him (credit cards, 40K in student loans), plus I have a car payment, he doesn't.  I can't wait till he takes the CPA exam and gets a new job so we can have a little more breathing room.

I love how open you are with your finances - I think it's great. FI earns significantly more than me (three times) I am a lawyer and he works in finance.
But I come from a family with much more money, crude as it sounds.
FI is a great saver and not a frivolous bone in his body - I am a spender and I really want to curb those tendencies - it's not good.
I have some student loans (20k), which I am paying back slowly as they are low interest, apart from that no debt for us.
Now I just need to get better and buy less!
  • If I were working full time as a drafter again, I'd probably be making slightly more than HH.  Ohhh how I wish that were the case (us both working f/t again!).  I work on call for the engineer at $20/hr, and I have full time work as a med tech, which is HALF that pay, but it's soooome kind of financial contribution in this awful recession at least.

The long term goal is to get my RN and make $30-45/hr, and do the on-call drafting at $20/hr.  HH makes $18/hr working with another tree company, and $75/hr when he does tree jobs with his brother (self employed).  Those are here & there type jobs though, not every day, and they pay taxes & then split the leftover pay, so it's probably not near as much as it sounds.
