Re: Discuss
I am pretty sure that they are friends.
I don't think the intent was to photograph the actual birth but more right afterwards. I see no problem with that.

I would not have hired a professional photog for right after the birth, but I do wish we had better pictures from just after he was born.
I'm surprised the hospital let her husband walk with a newborn in the hospital. We could not carry Ian in the hallways -- he had to be in the pram to go to the nursery or have checkups.
I think everyone knows that Pixy and I have a love hate relationship and both tell it like it is about eachother. So if I thought this was weird I would say it.
Our hospital allowed babies to be carried around in the hallway. But only in the secure area. You couldn't take the babies out of that area. After my c/s Ben had to be put into an isolette and Joe had to push him up to the nursery (he hadn't been 'tagged' yet). So Joe wasn't able to walk out of the operating room with him (not sure if that is what Pixy's husband is doing in that pic).
In one of my photography classes in college, we had a visiting artist come in and show us his portfolio. He was present during his friends' delivery. The pictures were stunning.
Some were beautiful in the traditional, new baby sense. Others were really cool in an arty way. He had one in b/w right after she got her epi. With the iodine running down her back, it looked like she had been shot. To my college self, that was birth control for the next ten years. His friends had him leave when she really got going and then he went back after the baby was born.
Therefore, I don't think it is creepy, unless the photog is all up in your junk during the pushing.

yeah, our hospital did not allow babies in arms, so that surprised me.
Anyway, as for photographing during labor. yeah, I would find that odd. I don't see that here, but if that surfaces I will side eye.
But, I have a photog friend and had she come to see me in the hospital, other than during labor, I would hope she would take some photos.
I don't know about this! Tell me more.
I think professional post-birth pics make 1000 times more sense to me than maternity pics. I find those kind of self-indulgent and corny.

One of my favorite pictures is Zane looking over the isolette while they weighed him and cleaned him off. I was in no condition to see any of that while it happened, and he is just so excited and proud. It's all over his face. I'm so glad to have a picture of it. I'm glad the nurse offered to take them, but I would never have thought to have a photographer there. I was still pretty indecent.
I did have a friend, who is a professional photographer, come to the hospital to take pictures the day after he was born. They are my most favorite pictures.
Mr. Winged took great videos. Except he forgot to get my vagina out of the frame.
Oooo, I missed that too. I don't think anybody knows you have a love/hate relationship with Pixy. Please fill us in.

I'm agreeing w/ Fent twice in two posts!
The way this was set up, I thought I'd be treated to shots of Pixy's birthing vagina. And, well, maybe she does have pro shots of that too that she didn't share. I don't have any issue with that. My doula will also take photos during the birth if we want. It's a once in a lifetime event, and the mom is usually too hazy with pain and/or drugs in order to really fully remember everything.
so true,. we even took pics of me with all my ivs in. i really was so out of it, so i am glad.
For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.

Oh, it definitely is. Those minutes right after the birth are so fast and crazy and hard to remember, so I can see someone wanting it. I just wouldn't have been comfortable. I'm not a huge pro pic person. We didn't do engagement pics or maternity pics. One of these days, I'll get around to getting pics made of Ethan, but that's more for the grandparents. We do take a ton of random every day pics though.

you know, in my day we didn't have these fancy shmancy digital cameras! we had to buy film and remember to have it developed just to find out it was completely out of focus and the picture looks like crap and we didn't have a chance to erase it and take a better picture!
whoa is me.
maybe she plans on putting it together for you in a little book and giving it to you at Ian's first b-day party? that would be cool.
