You're going to a McCain rally? That's cool.
Be sure to report back how many racist comments you hear. I know at mine someone had a sign that said "Moms for Palin" and I was offended b/c childless women are for Palin too.
Re: pville
I laughed!
"As of page 2 this might be the most boring argument ever. It's making me long for Rape Day." - Mouse
lol! You know those PAians, clinging to their guns, their religion, and their racism.
If I can get a personal day off of work, then I'm going to go. H is going to take off in the morning and go since he works pretty close to the rally. Hopefully he will take some good mavericky pictures. It sounds like Palin won't be there so I'm not as motivated to go.
I'm sorry, the nice white lady won't be there.
Childless women spit in the face of liberalism. We need our healthy birth rate to ensure the success of our ever-growing entitlement programs. So God's plan = socialism! Happy B(D)-day!?
Racism *is* serious, and you make light of it, as if it's something to joke about.
I agree 100% with Jaime. I applaud her for speaking up. I hope more people will.
Welcome back soprano. I missed our enlightening discussions.?
For everyone in this thread that can't take a joke, scroll up to see Fenton mock Palin's religious beliefs, and me laugh at the joke and respond in kind. See how that works??
Caden, there's no need to insult me.
Are you fine with the tactics McCain and Palin are employing? Are you ok with belonging to a party whose leaders intentionally mislead their constituents into believing Obama is a terrorist? I don't know how anyone could find that amusing. They are appealing to the basest fears in people that drive bigotry, all in the name of winning. John McCain denounced it in 2000, when they smeared him for having a "black baby." Now that he's behind in the polls, he embraces the "do or say anything to win" strategy.
I don't find racism amusing, ever. I expected more of the people on this board -- conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, urban or suburban. I expected more of you all than to endorse bigoted comments and incited racism.soprano, you're blowing this way out of proportion. Other people in this thread got it, but since a few of you didn't I guess I'll explain it. My joke is on the libs who act like the few random wackowallaces at those rallies are ubiquitous, typical Palin supporters.?I went to a rally filled with normal people. Almost every rally is filled with normal people. A few insane people stick out, get their 15 seconds of fame and suddenly it's some grand conspiracy to stir up the inner racism that lurks in the heart of every conservative. That reaction is as much about winning as anything McCain does and it's worth a joke or two.?
The joke is on you, if you don't think this has been intentional from the McCain/Palin campaign. It's not just a few crazies. It's people all over the country. And McCain/Palin haven't been shutting them down the way they should have -- just like McCain didn't shut down the person who asked him "How are you going to beat the b1tch?" in regards to HRC. They should denounce anyone who makes the suggestion that
It's not just me that's having an outlier reaction, as you imply. Jaime and Meredith didn't find your jokes about racism particularly funny either. Maybe you guys need to rethink whether this is a topic worth joking about.
I'm not going to apologize for something you don't get that other people do. This wasn't a page to you or vtjaime or meredith, so if you don't like it just hit the back button and ignore it.?
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/McCain_asks_crowd_to_be_respectful_of_Obama.html?
You know, caden, I usually would laugh, but I am so disgusted, and quite frankly, scared, at the way several of the MPC supporters have behaved, and the lack of a strong rebuttal from the MPC to those supporters, that I'm just unable to see the humor in the racism/fear mongering.
Caden, don't worry, I don't need or want an apology from you.
I fully understand where you're going with this. I just vehemently disagree with your conclusion that inciting racism and fear is something worth joking about.
I've read that. McCain had to come out with something like that, because too many of the comments have been captured on tv and the blogs. They went too far, and he had to appear to be reining it in.
Ok, well, I'm sick of the constant, exaggerated anti-Palin hate spewing from the left. I don't read any of the anti-Palin threads anymore b/c it's not funny and it just irritates me. So if you have reached a similar state where you can't laugh at your own side then maybe you should ignore pages like this.?
So first he hasn't responded, now he only responded b/c he had to. Got it.
Since you didn't get the joke or the explanation of the joke, I'll try one more time. The joke wasn't about the crazies, it was about the libs who act like the crazies are ubiquitous. If that 3rd explanation flies over people's heads too then I recommend you ignore this thread, as I do many other threads.
My own side? You mean the side that's not racist? Because that's my stance here. Not a liberal one.
I would think this is funny if that's what you did, but IMO you didn't do this. You made a joke about being offended by something insignificant, like a mom's for Palin. I think people are right to be offended by the comments that call for Obama's death or label him a terrorist but you give the impression they are being oversensitive. And I think they can legitimately be offended when you make light of such comments by comparing it to a mom who supports Palin. I understand if that's not what you intended, but just reading it on it's face that is the impression I get.
Thank you for saying this so much more eloquently than I could.
Kudos to you BM* for making your point in a logical fashion.?
That's not what I meant and I think I made it clear in subsequent posts. At my rally there were normal people, like there are at 99% of McPalin's rallies. I asked pville to report back on the non-racism that occurs at those typical rallies all over the nation.
Considering this was a page to someone I communicate with on a regular basis, I can talk to her without giving needing an in-depth explanation of my motives. She knew what I meant.?
Yep.
