The ground zero/mosque debate
I have seen this FB status three or four times already and each time I do, I feel a little sick to my stomach.
If you think that putting up a mosque 600 ft
from ground zero and having the inauguration on the anniversary of 9/11
is immoral, inhumane and a complete lack of respect for the memories of
all that perished on that day and their survivors and that politicians
are doing a grave injustice to the fallen heroes, their families
and all the people of NYC, THEN PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THIS TO YOUR WALL

Re: The ground zero/mosque debate
If you think a mosque in NYC is disrespectful to 9/11 families, you must think a Christian church anywhere in the south is disrepectful to those who were hurt by the KKK.
I just have friends posting the text of the 1st Amendment. I need more idiotic FB friends.

I'm going to write on my FB, "if you think the fact that there is still nothing at ground zero but a big empty hole nine years after-the-fact is immoral, inhumane, and a complete lack of respect for the memories of all that perished on that day, then please copy and paste this to your wall"
If someone had a better idea of what to do with ground-zero adjacent property, then they had ample time to do it. You snooze, you lose.
I'm totally stealing this.

Yeah, she was one of my four. Sigh.

I mean, I know she's conservative, but she's pretty open-minded about a lot of things. WTF. I'm sad.

I also avoid engaging on topics like this, and then I get annoyed because there are all these blowhards running around flapping their pieholes while the rest of us sit on our hands and button our lips in an attempt to look reasonable when sometimes, you just want to wallop someone.
I wound up just putting this as my status (hat tip to Fallin):
There is a Catholic cathedral one block from the Oklahoma City memorial. There are Christian churches in the same neighborhoods as those targeted by the KKK. Hate begets hate. Tolerance begets peace.

FTR, I don't necessarily trust the imam entirely and don't necessarily understand his reluctance to place this anywhere else in the city, but I don't see why it's even a debate. If they have the money to purchase the property, wtf cares.
So much of it is couched in racism and anti-Muslim sentiment.

There's one a couple of blocks from wtc, maybe all denominations can just go worship there and call it a day.
The odd thing is that slightly more than 50% of NYCers think that the mosque should be allowed.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I remember the sketches in the New York Post about a week after 9/11 that were labeled 'WTC, 2005" that showed the twin towers standing again.
Some of you know that I am a WTC survivor but I try not to let that cloud my opinions.
Yes, when I look at the gap in the skyline, my heart hurts. Will it hurt less if the mosque is built? I don't think so.
History brings change and most mature people can accept that we have to go on & adjust. I doubt we will every forget but most mature people can forgive those not part of the crime.

But it's only 3 blocks away.
That's DISRESPECT!!
Hey, did you know that the US is building Christian churches in Iraq while we are occupying and bombing it? That's pretty fukced up , huh?
yeeeeeah....

OOT, I didn't know that you were there. Were you in a tower?
no, it is through missionairies. but i think it's ironic.
Also a terrible way to win converts.
How sad is it that after the Holy War attitude under Bush, I wasn't entirely sure that the military wouldn't be putting up Christian churches?
