Married and Using Condoms???

Hello,

Just wondering what that "normal" birth control is after one is married. My H and I have never had sex without a condom and were discussing possibly just relying on the pill.  I am interested to hear what others are using!

Thanks!

Re: Married and Using Condoms???

  • I was on the pill but had bad side effects so now we are just using condoms.
  • Hormonal BC is not my friend, so DH and I used condoms for years until we were finished having children. Then he had a vasectomy.

  • I'm allergic to condoms, so I have an Implanon, and that's all we use.

  • DH and I have gone back and forth.  We used only thr pill but I didn't like the one I was on, the hormones were too strong so I went off and we used only condoms for about 6months, now I am back on the pill.

It really depends on what you prefer.

  • I don't think that any one thing is "normal".

We've used BCP, condoms and contraceptive sponges. (Not all at the same time, obviously.)

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • Currently on BCP and using condoms. Considering just using condoms as the BCP is giving me some annoying side effects and condoms are cheaper.
  • my husband and I use condoms and birth control pills. We want to make sure that we were fully careful since we have been together since we were 18.

  • I'm on the shot, and that's all we used. But, I'm one of the lucky few that didn't have any side effects. Using the shot, there are quite a bit of side effects, so research all forms of BC.

  • We used the pill for ages.  Now using condoms just because I am breast feeding.  After we are done with babies we will use the pill once again.

  • BCP and condoms, because I'm about to go back on Accutane. Before going on BCP, we only used condoms.
  • DH hates condoms so we rely on my BCP. I've been on Tri-Sprientec since December, and DH and I got married in March. No babies yet! :)
  • We were using only BCP and now we're using condoms.  We'll most likely switch back to BCP again and stop using condoms.  We're okay with using only one method of birth control

  • In college, we used BCP and condoms.  After college, just condoms until we were ready to TTC.

We use just condoms because hormonal birth control doesn't like my body.
  • We use FAM- no protection after I ovulate until my period starts, and condoms the rest of the time

  • I was on the pill, but hated the side effects, so we relied on a mixture of FAM/Condoms/Pull&Pray and got RyanBig Smile I tried the Mirena and hated it, tried the pill and hated it, and now we're using condoms.

  • Well, we begun the marriage using condoms and fem cap (basically, a diaphragm) but DH somehow moves it so we were never comfortable using it so I got lazy and we just use condoms. We actually make it part of the fourplay!Wink
  • Paragard IUD.

Geez. If we used condoms it would cost $100s each month.

  • BCP and condoms. We have been trying without condoms. However, we have been together since we were 16 and I think we both feel like we are not safe with them.

  • I'm on NuvaRing and we use condoms. I don't like sex without condoms because it's messy to me. And the fact that I think I'm allergic to his semen - no 'official' testing though.
  • I personnally think you should go on the shot.. i been using the shot for a little over a year until the week of my wedding my husband told me to get of it.. the shot works for 3 months. so u basically take 4 shots in one yr. but if you decide to stop using it to have kids the shot usually takes about 9 months to wear off. so if you stop using it this month ur chances of getting pregnant are better at 9  months after this month.

  • Normal-schnormal.  It's whatever is best for you guys.  I use the Depo shot and love it.  But I've never had any side effects. *knock, knock   But it's true that it generally can take a year to go back to a regular cycle, according to the Dr. and literature.
  • Bcp only from the time I was 17 till two yrs ago when I got my iud (paragard) (I was 32 btw). In 7yrs (1yr before my iud is up) dh is getting snipped. I shutter to think if dh and I had used condoms how much $ we would have wasted in the past 4yrs.

  • We used BC and condoms until we got married. Now we just use BC. But is really just what you are comfortable with. :)

  • Was on BCP's, then tried Mirena, after lots of side effects DH went and got snipped.

  • We stopped using condoms and only used the pill once we were monogamous and had been tested. We plan for me to stop taking the pill after our 1st anniversary. We also can't even fathom the thought of how much money would have been wasted if we were using condoms this entire time.
  • It's going to depend on what meshes with your body type.

I tried the shot and HATED it. Tried the patch and was pretty annoyed with it.

Currently I have a Mirena IUD and I. Love. It. Low enough in hormones to not give me any weird mood swings, kills my period dead (I spot about twice a year), 99.something-something% effective, super convenient and super cheap. I get protection that I only have to think about once every five years. It's awesome. No one can sell me on anything else.

  • I have an IUD and am not married.  When we get married I will still have an IUD.

We still want to prevent pregnancy just as much after we are married as we do now, prior to marriage.

  • I am on the pill. I've been taking it for a few years now and I've had no problems. Weve used condoms before, but I hated it. It just depends on what works for you and your H. Try the pill and if you don't like it, go back to condoms or try something else. Everyone's different. I will say that the first 3 months or so on the pill were difficult bc my body was getting used to the hormones. I was crying a lot, but after I regulated to them, it's been great. Good luch with whatever you choose!!!!
