Re: Baby costume shopping

  • The barkeep really is 10 levels of awesome.

In my absence I didn't really get to catch you guys up to speed with all the autism words being thrown around us at EI. "We're not saying he has it, but we think he should be evaluated further for sensory issues."  Really not worth getting into now - especially since we have our pedi's backing that it's not something to worry about yet.... but

ANYWAY - we were joking around that Pete and Alex should dress up this year in matching suits and Ray-Bans.   Too much? lol

  • I think you better do it now because it might be considered in poor taste later.

Gah, I am baffled by that.  Are they suggesting there's a possibility of autism or just that he seems to show signs of having some sort of disorder?
Also, how are you holding up these days?

  • Aw Hezz, that's super stressful. I sometimes thing that's the EI bias, they want to put a label on everything really fast. We have a friend whose son has some sensory issues (he's 4 and refuses to potty train, wouldn't ride anything at Disney world and was afraid of the characters, doesn't like loud noises etc) and they are going through the evaluation process now. Good news is there's lots of therapies available to help him cope with his challenges.

  • yes, RainMen now, What's Eating Gilber Grape later.

hayzus, I hate the panic button pushers.   Have faith int eh pedi, they don't have a vested interest in diagnosing Alyx with something/anything.

  • Hezz, that is farked.  In your heart and head, do you think anything is wrong with him?

ETA - I realize that this is a really intrusive question, so feel free to tell me to foff off.  I should just say, we are here if you want to discuss.  Good luck with it all.

  • I'm sorry Hezz, that really sucks.

  • I'm so much better with it now than I was a few weeks ago.  They really stress me the fluck out.  Once we met with his doctor he really helped put most of my fears to sleep. I'd be lying if I said I don't have one eye out half looking for signs - but the shiit of it is the signs are so vague that I end up freaking myself out more.

To be honest, Some days I do feel he might have some issues. But then I combat that thought with "I've never done this before - maybe it's just the terrible twos".  I dunno...  It's easier if I don't let myself go there, so I try and not get myself worked up.
