what do you think of this name?
I had a dream that I named dd (due in Jan) Elodie. I never heard of the name, but looked it up and there it was! I think it sounds cute with ds' name, Owen, but not 100% sold on it yet. What do you think?
Owen is 2.5 yrs old and Molly is almost 1!
Re: what do you think of this name?
That's ok! I want to hear your opinion!!!
It is pronounced just like "Melody" without the M. I am NOT the type of person to name my child something too different or hard to say. I'm a teacher and get really tired of this! lol
Personally, NMS. I like the way it sounds, but something bothers me about the way it looks and that it would get mispronounced a lot.
But it's only you and your H's opinion that matters - if you love it, go for it!
When I first read it, I definitely mispronounced it in my head -- I pronounced it with both a long E and a long O. If you like how that name sounds, I would just go with Melody.
Elodie is NMS.
I actually think Elle sounds more formal than Elodie. I like them both
I don't mind the sound of it, but I don't like the look of it at all. I thought maybe it would be better with a "y" like "Elody" but then I typed it out and it still looks bad.
So- NMS.

Hmm... I sort of like it and I sort of don't. How's that for an answer? I think I'm leaning towards don't, but only because it's hard to say. I feel like I'm leaving something out when I say it. I have heard the name before, but I always want to pronounce Eeee-Low-Dee.
Following the E trend, what about Ellery?
I'm of the opinion that people should name a kid what they want to call him/her...not pick something that sounds like a nickname and then try to work backwards and find an official "birth certificate name" that their nickname could come from. But of course, that's just me.
This. My DH's cousins were named Victoria and Alexandria. Both are beautiful names. But their parents always planned to call them Tori and Lexi. So why bother with Victoria and Alexandria at all?
As for the original question, there's something awkward about that name. So, NMS.

Or Elaina?
See, I agree with that too. I guess that name is just not "me". I felt like since I had a dream about it maybe it meant something lol
I found the name Ellery too, LVila, and I like it - we'll see what dh says
We kind of did that with Ameila/Mia. Brian and I each had a list of names and we highlighted the ones we like and then compared lists. We both had Mia highlighted but both said we wanted a more formal name and said Amelia at the same time. However, we do call her both Amelia and Mia on regular basis. Probably Mia more, just because that is what Allison can pronunce. I am sure to go back and forth between Amelia and Mia in my blog and in front of family, because I don't want them to stick to only Mia. We want her to be able to decide when she gets older which name she would like to go with.
We were just talking the other night that both names fit her, but Allison is Allison. I could never see her as an Alli.
Could you try to dream about me suddenly becoming independently wealthy? hehe...
By the way, I appreciate that you seem to really be open to opinion here. So many times I hesitate to share my thoughts on a name because people can take it personally if I don't agree with them.
Agree with everything.
Possibly! Heidi's friend from the PR firm.
Doesn't anyone read earlier replies? haha! I think there are 2 explanations on how to pronounce, I knew right away what she meant. What were the other pronounciations? I can't see anything else out of it
Blah Blah Beth!
I like nicknames, and I think Elodie is more formal than Elle, I think Elle is a super cute nickname. I like Elodie a lot
I think it is very pretty, and not weird... but I like more different names.
Evie was named because I LOVE Evie/Ev, I like the name Evelyn, but I thought it was getting too popular, so I wanted something different. I really love the name Ali too (pronounced Ollie) after a family member, but I wanted something longer, and I couldn't find anything, so I didn't use it. Addie was named because I love the name Lainey... I thought that was a little too childish, so I needed a longer name, to call her Lainey for short. Who cares how you come up with a name!
