Baby Fever!

I just got hit with a bad case of baby fever. It's always in the back of my mind, but it's been on full force the last couple days. It doesn't help we don't plan on trying for another 2 yrs. I don't know how I'm going to deal for that long. Tongue Tied DH really wants a dog, and I wouldn't mind a pet, but the fact that we travel a number of times each year is an issue. Go away baby fever!

Re: Baby Fever!

  • I had a dream that I was pregnant the other night! Hahaha! DH and I definitely are not thinking about having babies right now, but I think it's always in the back of my mind and I'm excited for when the time does come along.  Stay busy and hopefully the "fever" will pass - hehe!

  • Oh man I hear you!  We spent all day Sunday with our friends who have two little ones.  Their S is 22 months old and their D is 4 months old.

These are our best friends here (Dave went to college with the dad) and we are both obsessed with the two kiddies.  When Dave first started his job and had to move here, we had about 6 weeks before we closed on our house...so he lived with them for those six weeks.  At the time the little boy was only about 6 months old...and because of work hours, he saw Dave more than he saw his own dad.  As a joke, they started calling Dave "Daddy Dave".  So basically Dave really has a soft spot for this little guy.

And their new baby daughter is honestly the most beautiful little girl in the world (and I have 3 gorgeous nieces of my own, so that's a big statement).  She is the HAPPIEST baby, all she does is smile and laugh.  I haven't heard her cry or fuss even one time.

Basically, my uterus started to ache on Sunday and now all I want to do is procreate.  But again, we're not ready...I'm just going to sit here and wish my life away until we are.

  • I get baby fever every time I'm around my neice! She's 16 months old and adorable!!! Can you tell I'm a proud aunt? lol We're also waiting a few years so I just keep thinking about what all I want to do before we start a family whenever I start thinking about it.

  • Is there something wrong with me that I seem to be the only one without baby fever?!
  • Christine, I totally want to call you Chrissy.  Is that weird of me?  Why do I feel the need to give everyone nicknames?

No it's not weird of you!!  Mine comes and goes.  Sometimes the last thing on the planet that I want is to have a baby (really, it's me preventing the baby train from happening...I'm sure Dave would give it a go if I gave him the green light).  I want one when I spend time with our friends who have them.  But then I think about how I just moved here and have no friends, and how I REALLY want my besties from home to take a road trip and come visit me, and how it's not going to happen because one just gave birth two months ago, and another is pregnant right now, so they are never going to want to go on a road trip again.  And that really sucks for those of us who don't have kidlets yet, and makes me not want to give up the freedom that I so enjoy.

There's nothing wrong with you! I didn't mean that I want a baby RIGHT NOW, because I don't. I just get really excited when I think about how great of a dad my HH is going to make.

I am also not ready to give up my freedom, or my sleep at night!

I don't have it. Matt thinks that I do because I squeal every time I see a cute little Steelers onesie or a cute teeny person at church, but there's a vast difference between appreciating cuteness and wanting to get knocked up.

I do, however, have puppy fever. Bad. Sad

  • Goldgold - don't let your travelling put you off from getting a dog if you two really want one! We got our dog almost 2 months ago and one of my big worries was about our travelling, too - we were gone 4 days over Labor Day wknd and my friend came to house / dogsit for us. We'll be gone 2 weekends coming up as well - one in Oct and one in Nov - and we'll be asking friends again who wants to come spend a night with the pup for us.

I'm not sure what we're going to do for a week in Feb when we go to Aruba but I'm thinking we may board her for that. It would just be too much to have someone come stay at our house for a whole week...plus she'd get to play with the staff and not be on her own all day while someone had to be at work...there are ways to work around it. And our dog is soooo loving & sweet. She makes it all worth it.

Enjoy the TTA period by relishing the uninterrupted sleep and time with your DH while you have it.  Now that I am pregnant it makes me think about all the things I should have appreciated more before getting KU - I miss my wine, gorgonzola, sushi...and obvs a baby is a wonderful thign but it'll be a huge adjustment and awhile before DH and I are sleeping all night long and getting any alone time once the baby arrives.  ;-)

  • Gahhhh, after seeing my baby nephew this weekend (he'll be one on October 9th) I totally have baby fever!!!  He's starting to walk and completely has his own little personality now.  And he's so dramatic and it's freakin adorable!!!  My brother and his wife have a loft in Atlanta with a spiral staircase that goes up to the roof where they have their hottub and kegerator.  Jake keeps trying to climb up the spiral staircase, so my SIL put a bag in front of the stairs and Jake got all dramatic and flopped down on the floor and started crying... He is SOOOOOO freakin adorable.

Plus, being at my other SIL's baby shower did NOT help.  Seeing all the cute little baby stuff.... Man, I'm getting excited!!!

  • I have it pretty bad, especially when we hang out with DH's co-workers that have little ones. The last time we all hung out, I was playing with the 3 year old for a couple hours, and watched/fed the 6 month old. DH came up to me, put his arms around my waist and said "You are really good with kids". It was a sweet moment, and he never really acknowledged my interactions with kids before, so I thought it was a good step toward our future children!

We will be waiting a few years, need to pay down student loans and we want to take a couple bigger vacations (we will see if we actually do!)

  • I am going to tell you both sides of it. We really want another baby one that is ours. But at the same time OMG I am getting so close to the freedom of my kids not needing me all the time. Joanna has 5 years plus this one and she is out of school Jackie N Jessica are in there senior years. So I go back in forth. On the weekends I don't have kids a lot of the time and I love getting away just us. Just being a couple. I love family vacations to but I am not sure I want to give up the freedom that i am slowly getting back. I also love sleeping!

As I have said in the past I love them. When they were born it was amazing! They are beautiful and bright girls. I am super proud of them and glad I have them. Watching them grow n learn is awesome. The smart mouth they develop as a preteen is enough to drive you to drink but they are still your babies. The defiance of them as teenagers makes you want to strangle them then they write you the sweetest note that you reminds you of the neck hugs n sloppy kisses of when they were little and you are glad you did it agian. But being a mom is hard. It is a lot of work that you get paid very little for. The rewards are small and less frequent as they get older but all of those rewards are so worth it. Some days you will wonder how you have any hair left. You also know where each and every gray came from. Although I don't have any of those hahahaha

I just pulled out THREE gray hairs last week and I'm only 27 and no babies yet!!  My mom went gray in her early 20s though... crap, I'm screwed!!!

  • STU - I had the twins (ok hate calling them that) Normally call them the girls. When I was 21! They were a big suprise so I didn't gray hair till after them. I love hair dye. I actually haven't got my hair done since before the wedding and you know what I have a LOT of gray hairs now. I need to go get it done although Bernie is sweet and tells me its growing out blonde not gray! What a sweet lier he is!!!

Turning 27 in March, and I'm pretty sure I have a lot more than 3! DH gets mad when I try to point out any of my grays to him. He tells me they're really blonde hairs! lol

  • I mean, I had found gray hairs before, but it was always like one every 6 months or something.  And it would always be so completely random... Like super short and coarse and sticking up right on the top of my head!!

  • When I look at the reality of having a kid it kinda scares the crap out of me. It's something I've been looking forward to for ever, literally, but I know there's huge life changes that come with it.

Like I said before, in the meantime a dog might be a good distraction and addition to the family. It'll also affect our daily routines, maybe not in such a big way, but I don't want to commit to anything I'm not prepared to take on. Maybe in the spring once I have a schedule (esp if I go back to school). I'm sure DH wouldn't mind a dog for his 30th bday.

  • I found my first grey hair when I was 16. My great-grandma was completely grey at 25, they say, and I knew a really cool lady who went grey in her 20's, so it never really bothered me.

I get kind of excited when I find one because it means I'm that much closer to not being mistaken for a high school or college student. Matt completely freaks out if he finds one, but fortunately he's much blonder and they don't show as much.

  • I have baby fever baaaaad, if you haven't noticed by the several posts I've made about baby stuff (sorry BNOTBers), plus my nephew's 2nd bday was this weekend and I love watching Adam with him. And we decided to stop my pill. And for a last straw, Adam said last night (randomly)"I don't have any daddy books! You've read the mommy books (what to expect, etc) but I need a daddy book!" so he goes at lunch today and texts me a picture of a book he found, but said he'd wait till Wednesday when we go together to buy one. So. Not. Helping. Fever.

Hubby cuteness! At this point DH would freak out if I bought any baby related books. I did mention to him I think we should put some of our wedding gift money away as a starter fund for when we do have a kid. Considering he's in school w/o an income for the next 4 yrs and I'm planning on going back to school (and I hope hold a job on the side) we'll need to have extra funds available when that time comes.

  • It does sound like he has baby fever too. I think he kind of does. He knows I'd do it in a heartbeat (even though Feb isn't so far away), but I keep hoping that he'll want to start TTC earlier because he's got it. We'd be perfectly ok financially if we did, but I know he's super focused. Fingers crossed he changes his mind! Lol not likely but a girl can dream.

Thank god I'm not the only one, I feel like I'm missing a baby gene or something. I am sooo not ready to give up my freedom yet.  I think, like jehawley ,its me holding back, if I told Jay lets try next year, he'd jump on it. But he is also ok waiting a few years too.  I do enjoy babies now whereas before they totally scared me! I went to visit my friends daughter who is 2 months old over the weekend, she was absolutely adorable! But I still didn't have any baby pangs!

Jehawley- you can call me Chrissy if you like although its not my fav! LOL my mom used to call me that when i was a little girl and when I would be mad at her I would say "and dont even think about calling me CHRISSY!" LMAO!!!

  • Yeah, we're waiting to start trying until February (and we assume it will take a couple months to actually get KU) so that by the time the baby is born, hopefully he will have passed the CPA exam. He finishes classes in May, so it's just studying and work for him after that, while I (hopefully) grow a baby!!
