We have been having a lot of trouble with fleas this year. Even with Frontline Plus every 4 weeks Zoey has been super itchy and while I don't find flea eggs or anything on them, there is usually a live flea or 2 every time I brush her or give her a bath. I haven't been able to find any on Eldrick but his undercoat is a lot thicker than hers. My mom told me that the people at the pet store said the fleas in this area have become immune to the frontline and it's not working like it used to. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
We are going to be more diligent about keeping the yard sprayed but I know they can still pick them up when we take them other places.
Re: Merin or other pet people
I don't think I'll be much help, but we have only ever used the pill that they get once a month for heartworm. I can't think of the name at the moment, but it does fleas too.
Interesting. I have not heard about the resistance to Frontline, but I'd definitely consider switching it up to a different brand, and/or considering a natural alternative.
Also, if it's ongoing, it may be that they're never really dying and just keep reproducing. I'd try getting a Capstar tablet from the vet to kill off any that may be there and then go with a new preventative.
I just went and looked and what we have is the Plus version.
I need to get more and was going to order online too. I haven't heard of any resistance to the meds in the area though. Maybe it's different in your area?
