To get a makeova. Well, a mini one at least.

I realize that no one will see this until tomorrow morning, but.. help me please?..

I've got a hair appointment on the 20th, and I think it's time to really chop my hair off. It's been long for forever now.

Help me get some idears? I'm not going too short. I've had really short hair, and it just doesn't work on me. I'm thinking maybe somewhere between chin and shoulders.

Also, I have been digging everyone's beauty and hair recs here lately. We don't talk about that stuff much. So put that crap in this thread too if you want.

I would give you make-ovah idears, but I don't have any. I haven't changed my hair except through laziness for the last 5 years. The most makeup I've ever worn was at my wedding and I skipped mascara b/c I thought it made me look too made-up.

I do have the vaguest recommendation that because you're cute and outgoing you should go for a cute and outgoing look.

I do want something that's still young and fun. And long enough to do stuff with. When I had really short hair in high school, it was a way bigger pain in the asss to style and maintain.

They are pretty close to the same.

I think a lot of the difference is just in the styling. Mine is a lot more "done" looking. And it's a bit heavier-- Mod's is a little more natural, and I think layered more to be lighter and softer looking.

the pic I showed has a lot more layers and a lot of face framing pictures. I feel like the ones Jens' showed sort of looks like an a-line hairstyle

That's pretty cute Mod. It's pretty close to the style I've had when I've had medium length hair before.

I think I might do something like a long, inverted bob. The worst thing about getting a medium short haircut, is the mullet look when it grows out a bit, so I think the inverted cut would help keep that from happening. Right? I don't know, I've just had long ass hair for forever now.. I don't know about these things.

I had a long inverted bob. I don't think it grew out well at all. (note I didn't do anything with it for over a year) so i had longer than shoulder length hair that was 3 inches longer in the front than the back with no layers. very heavy. not good.

I've got fluffy hair and an a-line bob. It doesn't look great when I let it go, but I don't think it looks terrible either. Somehow the back catches up to the front. Maybe I have a natural mullet.

Jens, i think your bouncy cuteness is why it took me so long to get a read on you. Now I like you a lot and your posts cheer me up.

Aw, thanks Mouse. I'm not actually very outgoing IRL. I'm a really nervous and awkward person, and that most often presents itself as flighty goofiness. Thanks. I like you a lot too. I find you really smart and reasonable, plus you make me raff. I like it when you participate in discussion threads, because I respect your opinions and enjoy reading them.

I think I have naturally mullet-ish hair too. I have never had a hairstyle that I could just leave and it would do pretty things naturally. My hair is fairly easy to style, but it's got wicked cowlicks in the front, and I have a really resistant centre part. My natural hair is just begging for 80's stylin.

Honestly the kumbayaing knest has been keeping me from freaking out the last few weeks. I know its boring, blah blah blah, but there's something heartening about women (& groomz) supporting women (& groomz). My life is in flux right now and I needed it. /mush

I don't know why my hair is so easy to style in a bob. Long was always a struggle, it waved in weird places, flipped out on half and curled in on the other. It never held a curl and it tangled constantly. It took an army of the big, heavy bobby pins and a can of aquanet if I wanted an updo too.

I appreciate the mush talk too. Life is pretty good for me right now. But starting this new job has made me more stressed and insecure, because I'm always so focused on impressing them. And my usual family drama has been amped up lately. So it's really nice to have somewhere to come and chat with people I like, and not have to be "on" all the time.

But ANYWAY, dammit you guys, you are talking me out of this. Fallin, you make a good point, I don't want the stringies. I really like the pictures you posted. I'm thinking (especially after reading this thread) that I might be too chicken to go that short though.

Maybe I'll compromise and keep some length. I could lose quite a bit of hair and still have a decent amount to do stuff with. I'm going to go to the bathroom and take pictures for reference...

First of all, your hair is beautiful.

But I used to have long, luxurious locks like yours, down to the middle of my back. I cut 15 inches off about 5 years ago to between chin and shoulder length and have never regretted it. I've kept cutting it shorter, except for a short stint growing it out for my wedding.
