Hi!

So I'm about to jump in the shower--finally home today after being admitted Fri! Thanks for everyone's Charmin and well wishes.  I really appreciate it!

Here's a run down:

Went in for a routine post-date U/S at 3 PM.  It was a stat order so you wait for your doc to call you.  Dr called me right away and told me "I know it's not what you want to hear, but you need to go deliver your baby right now.  Do not go home.  Go right to L&D."  So then I, you know, started crying and freaking out.  Jack had almost NO fluid.  For the past few weeks, his movements have been really painful and my bump getting smaller . . . I didn't put 2 and 2 together until I heard what was going on.  So I was shocked that Monday was the day, but not surprised, if you kwim.

Was admitted and started on cervadil and given an ambien to help me sleep.  At 2 am, woke up to half the nursing staff in my room.  The very minor ctx were causing Jack to crash. : (  Yanked out cervadil and called my doc.

Next morning, started Pit on drip ONE to see what would happen.  Jack dropped so fast and hard a nurse had to insert her hand into my vagina to rub his head to try and stimulate him.  Stopped Pit drip immediately.

Dr. came and went over options.  She said that we could still try induction.  My cervix was still at 1 cm.  There is no way after watching my baby's heart basically stop that I could go on with it.  I agreed to a c with a somewhat heavy heart, but so excited that I would be meeting my baby in about an hour.

Prepped for the section (the spinal is the NEATEST and trippiest thing eva) and John came in and watched the whole thing.  I was anxious and scared . . . until a few minutes later, I heard my BABY!  It was like the world had melted around me and I was just overcome with the most intense joy I have ever felt.  They showed him to me and he was purple.

Apgars at 9 and 9, John asked to see my placenta (!?) 7 lbs 8 oz, 18 1/2 inches.  They put me back together again and it seemed like I was out of there in a heartbeat.

So, anyway, obviously not the birth that I would have ever imagined.  But honestly--I don't even care.  The end result was my baby Jack, and I am just seriously shocked at how much I love this little person.

Heeeeeeeere's JACK!

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz

  • Your lovely story is a testament to the miracles of modern birth technologies. Sometimes they are intrusive, but in your and you baby's case they were almost certainly life-saving. Your baby is adorable and you have a wonderful attitude. Congratultions for sure.
