Dear 7 For All Mankind,

Short people would like to wear your jeans too, you know.

Re: Dear 7 For All Mankind,

  • I always have to get my spendy jeans tailored.
    image Ready to rumble.
  • This is why, every time I venture out with grand plans to finally buy expensive jeans....I end up at the Gap.
    image Guess who?
  • Everybody says these and Rock & Republic are super awesome jeans, but I'm starting to realize the people who say that are tall.  So maybe all the tall people like them so much because they have a 34" inseam on their regular jeans and 32" on their "petite" sizes.

    WTF Cali. You're cheap.

  • That's why I like em, Cali...  It was hard to find a good pair without looking like a flood was coming.  It helps now that most designers make a Long in pants. But, I spent most of my formative years with my pants slung as low across my hips as possible,
  • I know I'm cheap!  But I'm also a sucker for a sale.  I'd like to try some 7s to see what magical powers they must possess to make someone pay $100+ for them but not if I have to pay to hem them.

  • Like Kristen, I get all my schmancy jeans shortened.
    image Mabel the Loser.
  • All you shorties stop complaining. You can shorten your jeans-- when I go to the store and all of the inseams are 32 with a handful of 34 (which are still too short sometimes), I can't just make them longer

*throws hand over face for dramatic flair*

Plus, I don't know why I joined stupid Rue la la, and why I look at it every day, despite the fact that they don't ship to Canada.

  • I, also, get my fancy-pants shortened.  However you MUST splurge and get the original hem sewn back on jeans, otherwise, it looks like your mom (ha!) hemmed them for you. This costs $20 in my neck of the woods.
    image
  • I can't fathom spending that kind of money on denim.  It was meant for factory workers.
    image
  • How tall are you people?  I feel like most pants are designed for 6 ft + giants.
    image
  • Why do you only get your fancy pants tailored? I have to get everything hemmed unless I find something in petites that actually fits over my arse.

    Yeah, what she said.

  • I'm 6 feet. I have to special order pants most of the time. No one carries a 36" inseam in their store. (Well, maybe fancy designer jeans do, I'm too cheap to buy them.)

    image

  • I just go to my regular, around the corner alterations place.

Fallin, you are too sensible for your own good!  I'm glad you treat your boobs better than your rear. lol.

    image
  • I don't know Fallin.  I'm pretty short (5'4") and a 32 inseam is usually fine for me.  Unless the pants are like super flared, they're okay.  "Shorts" are too short.

I think it depends on your ass or something.  My ass is sucking up inseam somehow.

  • I'm 5' 10" and always have to get "long" pants.  The only pants I have that aren't long are "shmancy" Joe's Jeans and they came the perfect length :-)

I wish people would make shirts with regular and long sleeves lengths in all sizes.  I don't want an XXL shirt just to get the sleeve length :-(

  • I'm 5'4" with a bubble butt. I have to have everything hemmed or let it drag (usually my choice with jeans).  I think my problem is short legs with a longish torso. Short pants are fine. Petites give me camel toe.

I have a pair of Old Navy pants that I do this with (but the heels are only a couple inches).  I hate when the "short" pants are too short and the "regular" pants are too long.  So I have to decide whether I want my pants to barely graze the top of my shoes or drag on the ground.  Like Fallin, I usually opt for the latter.

  • I'm only 5'8, but my body is a little stump, so most of that height is leg. I generally need at least a 34 for them to look good in bare feet, and 35+ for heels.
  • I've never had pants hemmed.  If they're not a good length, I just don't buy them.  I guess I'm cheap too.  Or I'm the perfect height, as this is rarely an issue for me.

I have this problem, too. Especially at the Gap. I usually buy the regular length and get them hemmed or buy the short length and have the hem let out. Yes, really.

  • I blame the Gap troll.
    image
  • I'm almost bought some true religion jeans the other day.  However, nearly $300 for jeans was a bit much, even for me.
  • Don't you dare blame the Gap Troll!  Gordo only controls who may enter, not the length of the pants.

  • I usually have to get even petites hemmed.

I remember crying in the store when I was pregnant because apparently they don't make maternity clothes for pregnant midgets.  Even with hemming, the crotch was like at my knees.
