Skinny Jeans

A post on another board got me thinking about this.  What is your opinion of skinny jeans? Good for everyone?  For no one?  For you?

I've been told they can look good on anyone, you just have to find the right pair.  Personally I disagree.  I think they look good on some people, and that some body types just wind up looking really top-heavy.

Personally, I think I look awful in them unless they are tucked into boots.  They can look cute on other people with heels or flats, but I think they accentuate the fact that my thighs are too large for my calves.

Re: Skinny Jeans

  • I'm not a fan at all.  Some people can pull them off, but I just don't like the look of them.  I also about fell over when I got a catalog in the mail the other day with "jeggins".  Seriously?!  Then again, I'm more of a "dress for comfort" type of gal - especially now that I'm married and not trying to pick up men. :-)

  • I think they look cute and wish I could pull them off but I'm pear shaped. I personally think I have abnormally large calves. (they don't fit in zip up boots) They would probably only fit on my ankles and not make it past that. Haha!

I don't think everyone should wear them and I don't think I should probably wear them. So...I'm going to stick with the old boot cut jeans this season.

  • I'm a "bigger" girl and I pull them off. I mostly wear them tucked into boots though. I have yet to try them with flats or heels.
  • Don't think they're for everyone, depends on your body type I think. I wear them, or used to, because I have no but and chicken legs but I have wide hips, so it's always hard to find a pair of jeans that fits. Skinnys are skinny so they hug your body and gave me some semblance of a figure.

Going to go for the boyfriend jean this year, I think. I've put on a few pounds and just don't want everything so tight.

  • I am still a huge fan of boot cut jeans.  If they ever go out of style, I will continue to wear my outdated ones until they fall apart.  I just think it's the style that flatters me the most.

That being said, the pairs of skinny jeans I own aren't uncomfortable.  And I actually have a pair of 'jeggings' ! Express was calling them that, though they're really just a stretchy pair of skinny jeans (says so right on the label).  They're really not any different from my other two pair, so I don't know if it's the same thing you're talking about, Sunshine?

I just really love the look of boots, so I had to resign myself to buying some skinny jeans.  I usually wear them with looser/longer tops to kind of balance things out, and they're definitely not gross tight (ugh).  When i get home, though, I always take my shoes off, and then I just look silly in the jeans!

  • I have one pair and was so scared to actually wear them last season but with a longer sweater and some cute boots, I pulled it off (or so everyone said). I'm not skinny by any means but I guess I'm proportionate. I wouldn't attempt them with flats or heels.

  • I don't like them. I don't like things stuck to my ankle in the first place, but I have proportion issues. If I wore a pair of them it would look like a giant set of boobs and stomach was walking around on stilts. No thank you.

I wasn't trying to say that bigger girls can't wear them.  It's more about how a person's weight (whether there's a lot or a little) is distributed, IMO.

  • i think they look cute on really super skinny girls.  that is it.  boys in skinny jeans?  i want to vomit.

with that said, i will be getting a pair so i can wear them in my boots that i will be getting.  on bigger gals like myself, the do look cute worn tucked in like that, but not alone with flats or heels (IMO).

gerren HATES them regardless.  he gets like angry when he sees anybody in them, but if he sees a guy in them?  he literally starts foaming at the mouth and smoke starts coming out of his ears.  in the produce section on sunday, there was a totally hipster guy who was about 26 years old and oh, 6'4" tall.  he was wearing gray sknny jeans, tucked into cowboy boots, with a leather vest on, a v neck tee shirt, a bandana on his head, a ponytail, and lots of jewelry.  gerren had to leave the produce section because he was so offended.  i mean, the guy looked like a total idiot, but if he is happy, whatevs.

I wasn't offended or anything, just offering perspective.

And I guess even though I'm bigger, I'm fairly proportionate.

Good, good, I definitely didn't mean offense :)

And Shauni - usually I change into PJ pants or sweats so Jeff never sees me in skinny jeans sans boots.

I literally LOLed at this one imagining the whole scene unfolding.  K is pretty much the exact same way. We saw guys ALL OVER Europe in skinny jeans.  It was awful.

I have a huge ass, hips and thighs, so I don't really want to be stuffed into a pair of skinny jeans and feel like I might pop a button or seam at any given second.  Maybe I should give them a try, though, to go with the boots I've yet to buy, but have been drooling over... I can see them looking okay with boots.  The only times I've seen them, though, are with a pair of flats and they just look silly.

  • My hips/thigh/butt area is a bit oversized, or at least I don't like it.  So I like the long tunic/sweater dress look to cover the area.

This. I was called "Thunder Thighs" in high school. Yes. I loved those boys...not. However, I completely agree with the long tunic/sweater dress look. Love it!

  • I'm a bigger girl and skinny jeans are not for me.  I'm tall (almost 5"10") and it helps distribute my weight to NOT look like a big girl.  But when I wear skinny jeans or jeans tucked into boots, it cuts me off and makes me look top heavy and just wider in general.  Which is super sad, cuz I just got some awesome boots.

They work if you're in proportion, but I am definitly not.  I tried jeggins on and about vomited.  Not only was it uncomfortable to have them skin tight, seeing my cottage cheese was disheartening.  It blows my mind that big girl stores have shiit like that, but I guess it works for some.  They also had about 50 different pair of leggings.  Guess I'm asssed out this season.  I will stick to my uber-flares and bootcuts.

  • Funny you mentioned this. I just ordered a pair from Old Navy specifically because I have freaking awesome and expensive suede Ralph Lauren riding boots that I got as a gift from my aunt two years ago for quitting smoking, and I needed to display them without having to wear a skirt.

I'm apprehensive to say the least. I am not skinny and probably should not be wearing skinny jeans. I would definitely not wear them unless I was tucking boots into them, and even then we'll have to see.

I see some people in them that should not be wearing them.

Or could you do a knee-length skirt with leggings?  I'm also a big fan of that look, and there are leggings that are nice and thick to keep you warm and not feel exposed.  I have a couple of medium-weight sweater dresses that I wear with thick tights and high boots, and basically only my knees (clad in tights) show, so I'm much more comfortable than I thought I would be.

  • I do that now, the skirt with thick tights or dress with leggings. I like it just fine, but I want a pant option, and my preferred boot cut jeans don't show off my to die for boots.

  • I have two pairs of skinny jeans and I'm a bigger gal but I'm only 5' tall.  I bought them at Kohls and they are Elle brand.  They are not the super skinny type so they are not tight and painted onto my lower half.  I love how they fit.

I wear them all the time with my flip flops (I'm lazy) and will be wearing them with flats.  I try not to wear them with a top that has volume because then it makes me look top heavy.

I've looked at other pairs of skinny jeans but just don't like them so I'm glad I found these at Kohls.  What I really don't like is the leggings jeans.  Those are freakin skin tight.  I could not pull that off at all, you'd see all the dimples in my a$$.

Ooh, I might try that.  When I tried on the jeggings, it was with an oversized sweater.  Top heavy city!

And ditto on the dimples :/

  • yeah, skinny jeans are not for me and I think there are very few people who can pull them off. I see SOOO many people out and about with them on that I want to push into a mirror to show them what in the hello they think looks 'good'.

I am short, big chested and pretty proportionate everywhere else, but the only way you would catch me in something similar would be with a LONG tunic sweater and high boots and I am just not that fashionable of a dresser. I will stick with my bootcuts and be happy.

  • I think I have a different idea of what 'jeggings' are, based on reading these posts.  Because the pair I have from Express, which I am wearing right now, are too thick to show cellulite (which believe me, I have).
