One of my SIL's friends recently stated that boot cut jeans are the new "mom jeans." I pretty much wear only boot cut jeans. Am I horribly behind the times? Are all my jeans mom jeans? I haven't even tried on skinny jeans because I'm top heavy and am fairly certain they'll make me look like a tomato on a pair of toothpicks.
Re: jeans
If you want me in a pair of skinny jeans, you'll have to kill me first.
Wha? your friend is crazy. Bootcut jeans are awesome, and they always will be.
Unless your bootcut jeans have a 12 inch zipper and a major case of front butt, you're golden, man.
I don't wear skinny jeans, but I don't wear bootcut either.
And I am pretty sure this same conversation happened 20 years ago about high waisted jeans too.
But high-waisted jeans are mom jeans! Boot cut jeans are mom jeans! FREAK OUT! LOUD NOISES!
Anyway. I'm not going to buy skinny jeans just because my SIL's friend thinks it's the thing to do. I just hadn't heard that before, but I also don't have my finger on the pulse of fashion, or whatever. Also, aside from the tomato/toothpick issue, there's also the long feet issue, and I think skinny jeans will just accentuate my clown feet.
I still can't get over the fact that all we heard for YEARS is that tapered jeans make one look top heavy... That bootcut jeans were God's gift...
Skinny jeans are a fad.
And they give you yeast infections.
Save your vagina. Wear bootcut jeans.
This came up on ML last week and it was determined that they are not mom jeans.
It's all about flattering fits and cuts. Skinny jeans are not that on many people.
Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
Bootcut has a slight flare to it, AFAIK.

AFAIK? does not compute.what does this mean?

For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.
Me too. I just feel strange in straight leg jeans. I bought a pair at Old Navy this summer just to have a pair of cheap jeans that fit after giving birth. They now just sit in the drawer. I can't bring myself to wear them.
Between this and the "It couldn't have been rape, she was wearing skinny jeans" defense, I think there are too many definitions of skinny jeans.
I am wearing some today, and they fit the same as pretty much any other pair of jeans until you get to the knee and below. My crotch has plenty of room to breathe.

My new fave jeans are Express Barely Boot. They fit like a skinny, but have a little bit of a flare at the bottom so one can wear flats without having clown feet.
I think the rise of a jean does more to determine mom jean status than the leg.
I don't think people mean that bootcuts are mom jeans, but that they are for old fogeys who are out of style.
Exactly. They are tighter around the calves and ankle, but not all of them are tight.
Fallin, I honestly didn't think I would ever wear them, but I kept hearing how flattering this one certain brand was, even on bigger women. So I tried them on and I like the way they look. I was surprised but I love them now.

I agree that the right cut of "skinny" jeans can look good on a lot of people. There is a difference between a lot of the skinny or straight jeans of today and the high rise, relaxed up top, tapered on the bottom universally unflattering monstrosities of the past.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of uglyazz jeans out there right now too. I just think with the right cut and the right tops, they can look good on a wide variety of body types. I broke down and bought a really stretchy, comfy pair this summer. I only wear them with long tops because I would rather camoflauge my upper thighs and rear, but paired with some heels or boots, they make my legs look great, and allow me to wear bigger, comfortable tops without looking heavier or sloppy.
Lindsay, they're Gap Always Skinny dark wash. Super comfy too.
I have a pair of the Gap Forever Skinny in a medium wash and they're maybe a little more flattering, but a little less comfy.
