I don't know if I should be freaking out or what, but my 2 year old (almost 3) niece, Cera (pronounced Sarah....yeah, don't ask), has been diagnosed with Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). I'm 800 miles away and feel like I can't do anything. She means everything to me. Luckily, she's getting treatments and it should just go away. When my father called telling me about low blood count, I thought he was going to say cancer, so I did get somewhat better news. They said that Cera had been bruising over the weekend over the littlest things. A few websites mention that kids usually can get over it on their own, but my sister and BIL opted for the treatment. I'm glad they did because it makes me feel much better.
Has anyone known anybody with ITP or went through it themselves? I am just worried sick! TIA for any advice.
*She's fine! The treatment worked and she went home not too long ago. Just in time for her 3rd birthday party on Sat (her birthday is actually on Nov. 2nd). I wish I could be there with her!
Re: *UPDATE!* My niece just was diagnosed with ITP
Yep, I have it. ?My dad also has it. ?You can live, a long, happy life with it, and there are plenty of treatments available. ?There are also varying degrees of severity. ?I hope that the treatments work well for her and that she feels better soon.
If you don't mind me asking, have any idea what her platelet level was??
?
Thank you, girls!!! I'm sorry that I didn't get back to any of you quickly, I went to bed early last night because I gave myself a migraine (from being upset). I'll look at the website and find out what her platelets level were/was (I can't think about correct grammar usage ATM) when I speak with my sister. I had a horrible dream last night because of this. I think once I speak to my sister, I'll feel more at ease.
Thanks again for the T&P's and the information!!
ec0983-I had HSP also. I have never ever met anyone else that has had that. crazy.
OP- I also have no lasting damage. T&P for her and your family
My sister said that the doctor told her 28. I'm not sure if that meant 2800 or what.
GOOD NEWS!! The treatment worked, her platelet level doubled and was rising. They left the hospital a little while ago. Yay! Thank you for the T&P's!! I have never heard of ITP before this happened and I'm glad she's going to okay!
