Poll-denim

LTB and Sunshine and Laura got me thinking...(and i am too scared to write on the E board...)

where do you get your denim?  how often do you shop for it?  what do you spend?

i hate cheap denim.  it is a clothing item that i prefer to spend more money on to get better quality since jeans are always in style.  so i have no problem spending upwards of $200 on jeans.  WITH THAT SAID, lately (as in the last two years) i have been pretty broke, so my jeans all come from the gap or banana republic or the nordstroms annual sale.

i just bought a pair of JEGGINGs (gross, i know) at AE this weekend bc i hate skinny jeans but needed to buy them for my new boots and AE was cheap.  but it was impossible to find a pair that was not too tight, or too low rise (so so so low rise.  i made mean comments to the staff there like "who the fruck would ever wear something that doesnt even cover their cl*t?!?!")  oops.

you go!

Re: Poll-denim

  • I am not a good person to ask because I am Mrs. Budget, but I love jeans from The Limited. They are not too pricey ( I only buy them on clearance) but they have been great and have lasted a while for me.
  • Being a giant its hard to find jeans that are long

so I general buy Lucky since they last forever and come in long and its truly long!!

  • Because I am cheap and my size I usually buy my jeans at Fashion Bug or Lane Bryant.

    you go!

You crack me up!  That sounds like something I would do!  Lately I've been finding myself buying jeans at places like NY&C and The Loft. The thing I hate about these stores is that their "petite" is still 6-8" too long for me and then I have to hem them.  And I'm lazy.  BUT they're not the super, duper, low-rise, azz-crack showing jeans that all the younger stores are full of now.

I absolutely HATE buying jeans because it's so hard to find ones that fit me well.  I have pretty big hips, bootie and thighs, but my waist is pretty small (in comparison) so it's difficult for me to find jeans that will fit over all the other junk and still fit right in the waist.  Once I find a pair I love, I tend to buy multiples in different colors.  Since I buy multiples, I usually try to find cheap jeans.  And by cheap I mean ~$50/pair.  Sad that that's what I consider cheap now.

  • Being WIDE and TALL super sucks!  I get my jeans at lane bryant.com (b/c they don't carry talls in the store) and alloy.com.  Even though alloy is a teeny bopper store, I can get any style (bootcut, flare, skinny, trouser) and any color in a long length.  But I'm a cheap asss, and will only get jeans on sale.  I refuse to pay more than $50....

But today, I'm squeezed into some Old Navy jeans.  I'm sure they will only last this winter, but I only paid $20

  • My priorities are screwed.

I've never paid more than $85 for jeans and it took a lot out of me to do that.

I usually wear Express jeans.  Couple A+F here and there.

I will however spend $150 on dinner and not even bat an eyelid.  I"m trying to change. I swear.  I almost admire the anorexic anthem - "Buy clothes, Not food", cause yeah, it lasts longer.

  • siuegiuosdghosud please tell me you said cl*t to the 17 y/o kid working at AE to buy his first car.

     the.greatest.ever.

as a general rule I just don't wear pants or anything below the waist for that matter. they are just too constricting and i like to be airy and free.

  • Lane Bryant (cause I'm curvy).  And I try to buy them on sale cause they're usually around $50.  You can get them on sale sometimes for $35/each.

I almost never buy clothes full price, but I also hate buying jeans that wear out quickly.

  • I'm cheap...I don't like to spend much money on clothes
I get my jeans at Old Navy for $20 - when I was a bit heavier I hated it because their jeans didn't fit me right and I had to spend $50-$60 on jeans at Lane Bryant

Don just got khaki cargo work pants from Old Navy for $16 a pair, I love it!

at my old job we wore sweats to work.  juicy or leggings every.day.  it got to be that i really hated wearing jeans!  so uncomfortable!  turns out, i was just gaining weight and liked the elastic on my waist band and thighs...sigh.

alicia, i love spending money on dinner too :)  LOVE.  gerren and i generally go out about once a week.  sometimes we splurge ($150) but usually we go to a couple places by our house for less than $60.  last saturday gerren took me out to lunch (lunch!) and it was over $100. however, we have a discount there (VIPS and all, haha) and we got out of there without spending more than 24 for 3 courses and two cocktails.

  • When I was younger I would buy Lucky jeans for $100 or Buckle brand for $80 but now there are so many more important things to me, like stuff for the house or saving, so I just go buy some cheap-ies at Old Navy (and I buy short because there they really are short, I'm only 5'0).

  • I used to buy Joe's Jeans but since I am on a budget now I get them at Old Navy.  I have such a hard time finding jeans that are the right length for me.  I'm 4"11, or 5'1 as I like to say, and it is so hard finding jeans that are short enough for me.  Luckily the short jeans at Old Navy are the perfect length.

  • Last time I bought jeans I went to The Buckle and spent probably 2 hours trying on various styles. I can never find anything to fit my waist and thighs. My favorite brand right now is Big Star and they usually run me about $100 and I usually get one pair every 6 months or so.
  • I love my GAP jeans but will usually only buy them when they're on sale. I'm a cheapskate and can't make myself buy jeans that cost oodles of moola. Old Navy jeans fit me well too so I've got some of those.

  • I'm cheap too with jeans. I buy mine from Aeropostle or Charlotte Russe and I refuse to pay more than $30. I think the denium quality is pretty good. They last me for years as long as I don't gain weight lol. I do have one pair of jeans that cost $200 (it was a gift from my cousin). I got it from some boutique in Olde City in Philly and they are actually my least fav. pair. The material is really comfy but it just doesn't fit right.
  • I'm a Gap girl who's a wannabe premium denim wearer but not with this fat gut.

  • I'm all about Nordy's. Especially because if the jeans wear out I can bring them back and they'll replace them...which makes me happy. Right now I'm all over Hudson's since I wear jeans to work on most days and Hudson's can kinda pass for slacks.

Come on you have to admit...a eating out vice PLUS a clothes vice spells DANGER.

I WANT to be more like you and spend the money on clothes, it's the food habit I want to cut back on.

Lunch for $100!  Nice...when the food is good it's SO worth it.

  • I am a 7 for all humanity and Paige girl at heart but currently it's been old navy and express. I work in a lab and wear jeans everyday so i can't risk wearing expensive jeans.
    September 25, 2010!
  • I used to be a loyal Gap (long & lean...even though I'm a shorty like debdeb), until I discovered 7FAM. I'm a goner. I usually find them at Nordstrom Rack, though, or eBay, because I'm cheap. I refuse to do the things my friend (who pays retail) does like hang dry, but if I get them relatively cheap, I don't feel bad about being hard on them.

  • Its sad that shopping for jeans is now as fun as bathing suit shopping for me. H doesn't understand how I can't walk into a store, pick up my size and leave. He just doesn't get that in every freaking store you can be a different size. I even showed him the tags on the pants but I still don't think he gets it.

Like I said on E, I used to shop at Express (they fit me the best) but I looked today and those crazy people wanted $80 for a pair of jeans. When a pair of jeans is close or over half of a days salary, I just can't justify it.

About 3 years ago I went into a discount store and found Gap, AE and Express jeans for $20 a pair and bought 1 of each. I think I only bought 1 other pair since then.

  • I am WAY cheap compared to pretty much all ya'll! The last jeans I bought were from JCPenney (I think) and I think I was ecxited to get them for less than $15. I don't see the point in buying expensive jeans most of the time b/c they are JEANS, something I am wearing to be somewhat relaxed without looking like a slob in sweats. I never notice what any jeans look like on others unless they fit horribly or are high-rise or something. I would much rather spend $50+ elsewhere. I am jealous of those that can afford it though. :) I must be poorer than I think.

  • I find that only certain stores really fit me.  I like the Gap's 1969 stuff, which is a little pricier but fits me better than their regular jeans.  Sometimes I like Express, but it seems like they change their fits pretty frequently so sometimes I go in and nothing fits me right.  American Eagle usually doesn't work for me, though I did buy a pair of skinny jeans there when I was testing the style.

Usually I buy Lucky Brand, Joe's, or Seven jeans.  All are a little on the pricier side, so I try to get them on sale but I'm willing to spend the money since they fit really well and are good quality.

Edit: If ON jeans looked even half-decent on me, I would buy them.  I have yet to find a pair where the waist isn't enormous, and they are so inconsistent with their sizing that it drives me up a wall.

  • I have turned into a jean snob over the years.  I now stick to Norstrom for the majority of purchases jeans are no exception!  I bought a pair of True Religions a few weeks ago and I love those - other brands I love are 7, BCBG, and citizens of humanity.  If it last forever why not spend $200 on it? :-)  At least that's my reasoning to DH!

  • I guess we're pretty poor then - there's no way I'd spend $200 on jeans, just jeans.  If you've got the money to burn then more power to ya and I wish I were you, but when $200 can pay for both our cell phones and the power bill for a month, I can't justify spending that kind of money on 1 article of clothing

I generally spend around $100 or less, but I wear jeans almost every day, and they last for years.  So it's an investment, in my eyes, since I will have to replace a $20 pair of jeans several times and ALSO not feel good wearing them.  Even some $50 jeans aren't that well made/long-lasting.

  • I've had ON jeans (the same ones) for several years that haven't given/worn out.
I had a pair of Lane Bryant $60 jeans that wore out in 7 months.

And I wear jeans everyday - even to work.

  • I'm really not trying to attack you.  As I said,  Old Navy is all over the map with fit, and I think their quality is the same way.  I'm glad that you've had good luck with stuff from there!
