Getting to knoooooooooowww you...

Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully get others to play, so we get to know one another a little better, and maybe see who all is here!

I was a Labor Day weekend bride, but didn't come to the boards until fairly late in the game.  Because I'm not able to get on during the day much (dang government job) and am in CA, the board is usually dead by the time I'm home from work.  So I read and post here and there, but can't usually fully participate.  I can post on my iPhone (yay, Nest!), but for some reason it won't allow multiple paragrphs, so those are short posts.

So, some random facts about me:

  • I just turned 32 and we just started TTC.  DH and I are ready, but it's still scary.  Still, when we refer to the dog as our baby and speak to her in baby talk, it's time!
  • I am an attorney for the government, and absolutely love what I do.  My current job is out of the courtroom and working on policy and legislation.
  • I have one sister, 4 years older, and we fight like cats and dogs.  If the way cats and dogs fight is to be passive aggressive and competitive.
  • My favorite music is what I refer to as terrible dance music.  I told the DJ that's what I wanted for the wedding, and he knew what I meant and obliged.  Basically hip hop and rap.
  • I'm a voracious reader, and we actually got married in a library (see siggy pic).  DH and I also love to play Scrabble, so our wedding was a mash up of Scrabble and books.  (On another note, I need to finish my bio and put it up so you all know what I'm talking about!)
  • I have an adorable niece (9) and nephew (7).  When my sister told them I was engaged, my nephew asked if he could call me.  Why, she asked?  To ask me if he could be the 'ring boy.'  Told that that was not appropriate, he asked to call me to say congratulations.  And called and asked if the could be the ring boy.  Smile
  • I love reality TV like Teen Mom, but never competition shows Survivor or American Idol.

Anybody else want to play?

Re: Getting to knoooooooooowww you...

  • whooo...that's a lot of info.

Nice to meet you.  I was also a Labour day weekend bride and a huge Scrabble fan. I used to work for the gov too, but in a very different line of work. I was a marine researcher for 8 years there.

Married in a library?  Very cool.

I'm only two years older than you. Also TTC.  Hubby campaigning more actively than I am, but I figure I don't have much time left so...

Here is where we disagree...hip hop makes awesome dance music.  Especially the way they are totally blurring the lines with techno and pop.  Like kid cudi and black eyed peas etc.  In fact, I ONLY listen to that type of music when I want to dance.

  • Sorry, should have been more clear.  That's ALL I dance to; it's just that my DH hates it, so it's come to be known in our household as 'Mush's terrible music.'

LOVE LOVE LOVE this movement right now!  Is it hip hop?  Is it techno?  Is it dance-pop? Hello David Guetta.  Please mix a song w/ every rap artist.  Thank you and good day.

I'm 33, married 9/18, NOT ttc yet--have PCOS, dealing w/ MIL trying to buy a new house, our pug will forever be our baby, borderline alcoholic & shopaholic, former club kid/dancer, looking at going back to school for programming, work for an auto title company, and just heard a STYX song in the store last night that I'm going to download when I get home.

Does anyone else even know who STYX is?

  • I'm bored so I'll play!  I'm going to just base my stuff off of yours.

I'm 29 and we "kinda" started trying before the wedding even happened.  Ok, well not full on, but we stopped being careful that month.  I've wanted to be alot of things in my life, and those goals have changed throughout the years.  But being a mom is something that has never changed and I want it more than anything.

I work for UW- Madison.  State job, so gotta love the benefits.  Just started here in March, but it feels like I've been here forever (in the good way!).  Very comfortable here and enjoy the people I work with.  Go BADGERS!!! Smile

I'm an only child- but technically I have 2 half brothers.  My parents divorced when I was an infant (ran off with my mom's best friend.  Yeah, that's a great story), and stopped wanting me for visitations when i was 5.  He now has 2 sons with my step mother, but I have never met them.

I'm also a reality tv junkie.  Although, we moved and our tv has been off for 2 weeks (getting hooked up again this friday) and I haven't really missed it.  but i know once it's hooked up again, I'm going to be spending some quality time getting caught up on all my addicting shows!

  • I have to leave work in a few minutes, so this might be short and quick.

I'm a late September bride, as that's when we started dating, and when he proposed.  I met my DH online and it turned out we were at the same university and had gone to HS down the road from each other.  I also had been talking to his best friend (who became our best man) just a few months earlier.

I'm 27 and work for a cable reality TV show.  It's not your typical reality show, but I see some pretty out-there stuff.  I currently want to move up the ranks and become a film colorist.

I'm also a voracious reader, but I tend to only stick to a few genres.  When I'm reading, I can tune out everything else around me.  I also have a rather large DVD collection which DH keeps pestering me to whittle down.  So far I have gotten rid of maybe two dozen.  I'm trying to outlast him.

I have two sisters, who are twins, and three years younger than me.  Neither one wanted to be my MOH, but "would if I really wanted them to be." I chose my best friend whom I've known since 1st grade.

And that's all I can think of for now.

My deal is that I am going to murder your puppies and piss on your rainbows. -diablesse Lilypie Premature Baby tickers

Oh, Brew.  I've BEEN TO a Styx concert.  My 18-year old self had a 23-year old boyfriend who really liked Styx.  But everybody at least should know Mr. Roboto!

  • Wowie.  That's a lot of info!

I'm also a Labor Day bride.  Got married the day before my 28th birthday!  H is 7 years older than me, so we will probably start TTC soon.  Either that or make the decision to not have kids.  Right now we're enjoying traveling and selfishly doing what we want.

I work in biotech.  I used to be a lab rat and do research, growing cells to make drugs, but now I am in the training department.  Basically, I make material and do technical trainings for all of our manufacturing guys so that they know why they're doing what they're doing.

I'm not a fan of rap, hip hop or R&B.  I'm more indie and blue grass.  I also love Scrabble, but H is awful at it and is a really, really sore loser, so we don't play much.  The last time, he threw the board and letters across the room and it ended in an ugly standoff over who would pick it up.

I used to read a ton, but wedding planning took it outta me.  I need to get back into it, but with all of the wedding clutter still in the house, I can't bring myself to start buying books and adding more clutter.  Maybe I'll get an e-reader for Christmas. :-)

  • I can't process all of my info so I have the following to say:

    1. I totally remember you from TK, MushE.  Like, I think of you as a 'reg'.

    2. The library pic is the shizz

    3.  Brew, of course I know who STYX is.  Also, unrelated, but while I have your attention: I will be posting a sausage mini quiche recipe for your new pan in about an hour or so.

  • I am Jessie :-) The baby of the group at 21 and a mommy to a crazy attitude filled 2yr old girl named Ellie and now a stepmom to a 4yr old video game addict Landon. We are TTC another one too! ((I want at least 2 more))

We got married on the 25th with a little rock n roll theme going on. We had an attendance of 360ish and we had a blast! Think black with lace and some polka dots and vinyl records!

My hubby is a radio dj for our rock station so I've gotten to meet alot of rock bands :-) The recent ones were Steven Adeler, Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper and Nikki Sixx. My daughter is now a Zeppelin fan lol. Oh and Im an insurance agent.

We are currently house shopping as well! I am a Teen Mom nerd and Parenthood freak and together Toby and I watch My Life as I know it by Bret Michaels (dont' judge lol). Im trying to be a better cook and hopefully learn to bake a cookie without burning it!

Hmmm... I just learned something new.  I didn't know that!  I was wondering how you had met so many bands and cool people.  Now it all makes sense.  Also I loooove that your 2yo is a Zeppelin fan.  That's awesome!

And mushE, I totally remember you from TK too.  But it's still fun to hear about you and everyone else. :-)

  • This is fun!  Thank you for posting this!

I love the library story and pic!  I have a friend that let her step daughter who is 8 call to congratulate me and she asked if she could be our flower girl!  She is too freaking cute.  We had a very casual wedding on the beach (OBX) and did not have a flower girl or "ring boy" (I love that one!)  So, I asked her to pick up the shells for our shell casting ceremony and she passed them out to our guests!

I'm the old one here at 45 yrs old!  Ughhhhh My DH is 35!  I recently had emergency surgery for acute appendicitis and appedic endometriosis.  I had Stage IV endometriosis for years, many laps..saw a specialist and attempted to conceive but it didn't work out...even after doing 4 fertility shots a day for months.

Our babies are our kitties.  We sold our house and are living in 1 of our 4 duplex units right now, until we find the house of our dreams.  I am a police officer and he is a fire fighter/paramedic.  He is also an emergency room RN and has his aeronautic degree...so, yes he is a pilot, also.  He doesn't pilot for a career though...just for fun.

We love to travel...especially by car.  I'm into anything "green" and love love love to read.  I'm on book #5 during my recovery from my surgery.  It's the highlight of my day these days. That and my awesome friends stopping by with something new to read! LOL  I also am into fitness...I love to run and workout.  Of course, it's killing me that I can't work out at all right now.  So I'm working on my gratitude journal to remind me what is important in life!

I love lots of tv programs..reality junk, Weeds, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives...I am also learning photography and love to cook!

  • Well hello there.  I've also been on the NorCal board but it seems quiet there and I don't get some of the lingo there.

I'm 28 years old and don't know what the hell I want to do with my life!  I'm currently an office manager and hate my job.  I plan on taking the Feb LSAT to pursue my life long dream of practicing law.  Either that or earning my paralegal certificate so I can at least be in the legal field.  It's so hard getting a job as an entry level paralegal when you don't have the experience!

No kids, no nephews or neices, and it'll be a while before any of those are around.  I have two little cousins and I like to spoil them when I can.

  • I'm loving this random fact Monday post!

MushE where in NorCal are you from? I LOVE the library wedding.

I just turned 31 on Saturday (gulp!), DH and I got married on September 18th and had an over sized Scrabble piece as our cake topper. Yay Scrabble!

Even though I really should be thinking about it right now, no babies for us yet. I just like playing with everyone else's.

DH and I pretty much love anything sports (well...except basketball) but particularly love rainy days on the couch watching college football. Though for fear of jinxing I won't mention the team. :)

  • MushE, thanks for posting this, I remember you too and I am in a very similar situation with my blackberry and posting more often (and the one paragraph thing-so I apologize for the lack of readability). I am 26, hubs is 27. We got married 9/25 in Michigan. We've been together since high school so I now call myself an 'old married hag' since we have also lived together for 5 years. I currently substitute teach and waitress a few nights a week. I have my teaching degree but can't find a classroom of my own to save my life. :( The hubby makes most of our living refurbishing electrical equipment. We have two labmix doggies that are our babies for now. We hope to TTC sometime before we're 30. It's hard to wait. I also would like a family more than anything. So nice hearing little details from others again. I'll try to post more often :)

We're in Folsom, which I love even though it's the 'burbs.  Our neighborhood is newish, but they still kept some nice, huge old oak trees, which I think is great.

I'm a sports fan too.  DH is from Pittsburgh, so we're usually watching Pitt football on Saturdays, and the Steelers on Sundays.

brew--gerren is OBSESSED in a sick way with STYX, haha.

my name is shauni, married to gerren on labor day weekend.  we are both 25, both turning 26 in two months (yes, we have almost the same birthday).  we had been together for almost 9 years by the time we got hitched.

i grew up in NH, moved to VT when i was in college, then G and i moved to CA for a few years.  just moved back to VT.  i work in NH at a company that creates software for medical students to use.

i love cooking, hiking, going to the gym (although looking at my waistline you would not believe that i like going to the gym...), being outside, reading, traveling.

i dont like staying out late going to clubs, ke$ha, catsup, hipsters, fake nails, BEPs.

i have no desire to TTC for at least 8 years.  but i love my goddaughter and my friend's babies.  just not enough to have my own ;)

  • Hubby and I were married on 9/26, we are closing on our first house this Friday and moving this weekend. DH is an industrial designer (designs packaging for all kinds of things, including gym, toilet paper, lady products, etc..) I work for an orthopaedic office. I was in the Air Force Reserves for 6 years. Have lived all over the country and Germany. We live in Cincinnat right now. DH wants to wait a year to have kids but I would like to get started now. He said he is getting me a puppy when we move so I can focus on that and forget about having a kid for another 9 or so months lol. I am completely addicted to horrible reality tv, hubby hates it and wont sit in the room when I am watching (Teen Mom, RHONJ, Millionaire Matchmaker, etc...)

  • Oooo this looks like fun.

I'm Nichole. We got married on 9/17. H and I met in a kinda strange way. When I was 17 I got a job as a receptionist working for a guy named Mike. About a year later the company closed and Mike told me he'd call me to come work for him again some day. Fast forward 4 years and Mike calls me again. I start working for him and one day he decides to hire his nephews. It was strange because Mike never talked about having family. DH starts working there a few weeks later. One day at work Mike walks up to me and says "When you're done with your current boyfriend, you need to date Tom." A couple months later we were dating.

Umm...what else...I'm 25 and less than a month older than H. He's very excited for me to turn 30 so he can say he's married to a cougar. Ha. I have an extremely fat cat named Gidget with an attitude problem and a personality of her own.

I hate cold weather, snow, most bugs, and bathing suit shopping. I love cooking, reading, chick flicks, and crappy reality tv like Teen Mom. I also love seafood and sushi, which sucks when you live in a very rural area without much of either. Oh and I'm really sarcastic and I usually never shut up. =)

ETA: Oh yeah, I work for a really small and strange product service company. I'm the bookkeeper/office manager/only logical person in the office.

  • I'm way late on this but going to play anyway!

I'm Emily, 24, married Jeremy, 25, on 9/25 in my hometown. We met at a party I was at with my old roommate playing wingman for her since she was meeting a guy there. Long story short, I sent a text to my roommate saying I thought J was cute and she told her friend who then sent the text to J and he slowly (seriously, would change the song and then move a chair closer and then do that again til he was sitting almost next to me). He found out I played tennis in HS and still loved to play so we ended up playing ping pong for 3 hours in their freezing cold garage.

I have a cat, Gus, but he's taken up residence at my parents when I still lived at home and didn't want uproot him and make him stay inside when I moved.

I love winter and wish we actually had it in Augusta, GA but I'll stick with a few cold days we do get. I love reading, knitting, photography and anything crafty and tennis. I enjoy cooking and baking especially for J's sweet tooth!

I'm at speech therapist in a school system (hopefully will get out of that in May and work in a medical setting with kiddos). H is currently a bug man but going to school to be a firefighter.

Oh and I have a psychotic MIL and willing to trade...hehe

The Steelers have been getting to be more fun to watch (I secretly love them for Dennis Dixon their backup, even though he hasn't done so well as a back up)

  • Hello! I am Michelle, 32, Hubby is 30, we got married on Sept. 24, had a small elegant wedding.

We met where I used to work, we were together a year and a half when we got married.  I work through disability resource taking care of my mom (she had surgery on her right leg last december, and can't walk anymore, and is in a wheelchair, so I basically do the stuff for her she can't do anymore), Hubby is a laid off construction worker (he does low voltage cabling).

We are reality tv junkies, I love Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, we watch Rehab:Party at the hardrock, House, Bones, Fringe together.

We have our cat right now, but started TTC after the wedding, so far no luck, but we keep trying every month, I found out last december I have a fibroid tumor barely attached to my uterus, but docs said it shouldn't affect us getting pregnant, so we figured after 6-7 months of trying with no luck, we'll see a specialist.

Yeah, the Big Ben jersey may not be a big hit right now (Unless you're Richard Seymour...bad joke, sorry). Hines Ward is pretty amazing and I do think Polamalu is pretty funny too, maybe I was just sold off that Head and Shoulder's commercial.
