PEOPLE ARE TRASH.

I am so mad.

Some piece of trash felt it was necessary to get in my car and steal both of my ipods & my GPS..

I noticed my glove box was open when I got in my car but really didn't think much of it. Then I was driving to work and looking for my ipod and it wasn't in my car, and the cord that it hooks to was hanging out of my console.  Then I started looking for my other ipod which I know was in there.. gone.

Then I noticed my GPS was gone. I know it was there yesterday bc I remember thinking I should take it down and put it in the console.

I know it's not a lot of stuff, it's just that someone went in my car, while I was at home. I'm so paranoid. ugh. I want to go home.

Re: PEOPLE ARE TRASH.

  • gaw, i'm freaking out now. What if they went in my Dad's apartment. He has a lot of crap down there. The garage was open pretty late last night -Chris fell asleep and I didn't realize it was still open until like 10 or so. Who knows what time they were there.

If the Dr wasn't in surgery right now I'd call hima nd tell him I need to run home. But I can't just leave- well I could, I'm sure he'd understand.

    http://lifeisbeachykeenblog.wordpress.com
  • Oh, and what even weirder. Chris told me he had a dream last night that he killed someone - someone drove up to our house and told Chris that someone was looking for him. he said the car drove off then came back, someone got out of the car came in the garage and pointed a gun at us.

yah, so I'll just sit here and over analyze everything today. I'm just really worried he/she/they got into my Dad's apt.

  • That.totally.blows!  I am thinking they probably didn't enter the house because that's a really good way to get killed, but I understand your freaking out, I would be too.  How far do you live from work?  I'm sure the Dr would understand, it's your home.

  • Ugh, sorry Jena, that's really crappy.  Do you guys have an alarm system?  I'd be worried that they'd come back for more stuff now that they know you have nice things.  Definitely fill out a police report!
  • Oh no!  That's awful!  Was your window broken?  How did they get in?  That's such an awful feeling.  I've been there several times before.  You feel so violated.  People sure know how to spread the "holiday cheer" huh? Confused

Well, the good thing is that Thanksgiving is only a couple days away and it is a good time to reflect on the things that really matter and are truly thankful for.  I'm sorry that you are going through this, but just know that this too shall pass.

  • I'm like 20 min from my house. I called my Dad and he is in the area I told hmi to go home and see if I locked the door.. I just called him again bc I can't just sit here wondering if they took stuff out of the garage. If he doesn't call me back soon I'm caling the OR and going home.

No, we don't have an alarm. OMG. I already freak out when I'm home alone by myself @ night.

This is un real to me. Before we moved we lived in a way worse place nothing like this ever happened, but where we live now is more open, more people see our house.

I'm going to do a police report when we get home. I forget if I mentioned that Chris said he truck door wasn't shut all the way, which he thought was weird, but didn't think that much of it. He said he had money in his glove box. So I'm going to wait till we are both home.. I did call the police already and they said they could come out when we got home.

I know it's just "things", and they are things that can easily be replaced, it's just really, really nerve wracking. I do NOT handle stuff like this well. I scare very easily.

No, my window wasn't broken. I guess I left my car unlocked- but there is also a valet key to my ca rhanging right inside the garage.. so who knows.

  • I second FLV, I love my alarm for $25 month.  Even if you don't have it monitored, the chime when you open the door is probably in itself a good deterrent for crooks if they're watching you.  Not that they are, but it just provides me a peace of mind.  If I hear a noise I'm all "who cares, let them try to come in here..."

  • I am sorry.  I have had my car broken into a few times and it totally makes you feel violated.  It sucks.  I hope the ipods and the GPS was the only thing they took.

  • Right now my main concern is that my e-mail was on my ipod and that has confidential documents in it.

If I change my pass word and delete all my e-mail will that also happen on the Ipod?

    http://lifeisbeachykeenblog.wordpress.com
  • That sucks!  I  can't believe that someone did that.  I can't tell you how many times I have woken up and realized that my car was unlocked.  I would feel so violated.  I really hope that they did not get into your dads apt.  And even more that they did not take your valet key for future use!  Keep us updated!

    Yes.  Do it.

  • Totally blows.  I would feel completed violated.  I grew up in a place where we kept doors unlocked.  The only reason our alarm beeped or my parents even turned it on was so they knew when I was trying to sneak out.

Here, though.  We lock the doors the second we leave the house.  Our garage is always closed.  We park all cars in the garage.  etc. etc.

I find you have to be super vigilant, especially around the holidays.

Sorry you are dealing with this.

My garage has been taken over by boats. one of them has to go, or get moved, or something. I need my garage back.

I usually do lock my car. I guess I didn't last night. I normally forget to lock the front door =/

My dad called and said everything was fine down stairs and that he would lock the front door.

I feel so silly getting so upset over my ipods/gps.. which can be replaced.. my biggest hassle is changing over my e-mails.. ugh.

  • I don't mean to add to your worry, but did you have a garage door opener in your car, and if so, is it gone? You might want to check.

Not so long ago, people were breaking into cars in our area and only taking garage door openers. Obviously, with the intent to go back later and get into the house because most people don't lock the door from your house to your garage.

The new neighborhood, being nicer, probably makes you MORE of a target than you were before, not less. And the worse the economy, the higher the crime rate. Security system is definitely worth it.

Sorry that this happened to you. It definitely sucks.

  • My garage door opener was still in my car.. and my gate opener (to my moms house) was still in my car.. I guess Chris needs to check his truck. which he can't do until later bc he is in his work truck.

maybe someone @ the plant can go out and look in his truck

  • I don't think it is silly to be upset abt stuff....ipods and gps are expensive stuff. :(
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • And i seriously gave away my gps like 2 weeks ago.....sorry:(
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Thx Ali- My b-day is in 2wks or something like that- so my mom is going to give me money for a new GPS.. i use that thing ALL.THE.TIME.

as for the ipod. I loved my ipod(s).. they had  a lot of good music, some of which isn't on my computer - oh well.

I haven't decided what to do about that though. I don't really run w/ my ipod anymore, but i used the hell out of in my car, which is why it was in there.

My car came w/ an ipod hook up cord so i always had it in there. ugh. so annoying.

  • I just called the police again, they are coming now.

I called a pawn shop to see if they rec'd any of my stuff and he said some privacy policy (which i don't understand, its an effing pawn shop) so he can't tell me what he rec'd unless i have a police report or some *** like that.

  • Ugh. I have no words of advice, just wanted to say I'm sorry you have to deal with all this. :(

When I was in HS somebody broke into my dad's car in our driveway. He only had a few CDs in there - but it was funny because they didn't even touch my unlocked piece of crap car, probably figuring it wouldn't have anything worthwhile. I actually had iPods, a CD player, a couple musical instruments, etc. For once having a POS car paid off.

Sorry this happened to you. :(

  • I'm so sorry this happened to you, Jena! I would feel so violated, too. I can't tell you how many times I've left my car unlocked accidentally. I grew up in a place in NJ where you really didn't have to lock anything so it was a big change for me when I moved to Tampa. I even keep my house locked when I'm inside (even if H is home).

Now my biggest fear during the holiday season is that someone is going to break into the house during the day while I'm asleep. Thankfully a lot of my neighbors don't have normal work schedules either or are retired, so there's at least people around.

I wonder is they took anything from your d-bag neighbor!

  • That really stinks.  Especially, so close to the holidays.  I hope you're able to track down your things & nothing else was stolen.  Good luck.

This exactly. You are more of a target in a nice area- in a criminal's mind you likely have nice things if you live in a nice area. I'm sorry this happened to you. We are super diligent about locking EVERYTHING. I lock my car even when I know I'm coming back out in 5 minutes. The garage door is always shut unless we're physically inside it. The front door bolt is thrown the second I shut it behind me. Also, never keep anything of value in plain sight or even in your car if you don't have to. You had the right idea of the ipod in the glovebox but was the GPS out? Will your car insurance cover the expense to replace the items or do you have to buy all new things on your own?

Yes, the GPS was on my windshield. What's so annoying is that I thought to myself to take my GPS down, and then I didn't. GAW!

I keep the garages shut, but Chris was down there watering the grass, and he also cooked on the grill. He apparently forgot to shut them. When I took the dogs out later I realized they were still open.

I'm used to living in the boondocks.

I didn't even think to call my insurance. Should I? Do they normally cover stuff like that?

I'm not worried about them covering it, I don't mind replacing it. It's just annoying. the GPS is the first thing that needs to get replaced.

  • Do you know what your deductible is?  Your insurance might cover one of your ipods... better than nothing.
