Speaking of baby names

My girlfriend and her husband have named their daughter after Grandmas.. Elizabeth Grace. They are also due at the end of the month.. Baby will be named Olivia Marie (both of the girls will be named after two grandmas and great grandmas). Both names are very cute.. I told DH that we won't be using family names.. Doris Rita and Ethel.. I hope you girls have better options!

Re: Speaking of baby names

  • Dave's mom's name is Bertha.  I would classify that as NOT a better option.

  • We already have two names picked out.

Byron Mark and Becca Lane.  Byron is Adam's dad's name.  I've ALWAYS loved the name Byron so it works.  Mark is Adam's middle.  Becca (my mom's name is Rebecca, but I like Becca better so we're going to go with that) and Lane was my middle name before I had to drop it for my maiden name.

  • Oh yeah, and if we had gone with my dad's mom's name, our kid would be named Eula Inez.  No thank you.  Adam's granddad's name was Homer.  He wants to incorporate that into one of our kid's names.  Not going to happen.

  • I know that if we have a boy I want his name to be Benjamin Lee (Lee is a family  name) but for a girl I really don't know. I like the names Madison  and Emelia and I thought about maybe putting my mother's name as a middle name (Robyn) but not sure yet.
  • oh what  cute names!!!  Jay loves the name Olivia

My top choices for names are Catherine Olivia or Jason Michael.

I also like Ryan if Jay doesnt want a semi-junior.   Jay's middle name is William and I hate how Jason William sounds, lol  I like Juliana Rose for a girl too.

    That is so cute!

  • My grandmother's first name was Stephanie and we will be using that as our girls' middle name - if it's a girl. (We don't find out until next Friday! 8 more days - eeeek).  I cannot stand my other grandmother so her name will not be associated with my child if we do have a girl.

  • obviously since we're TTC this has been a topic of conversation lately

Our top two names our Cameron James and Mason Lewis for a boy (the middle names are family names)

For a girl... we're having a harder time with.... but we both like Taylor Ann (Ann is mom's middle name)... Ellie Ann, Eryn Ann.... but we haven't decided.

My Grandma's names are Evelyn and Marilyn. Not options. lol

  • Once upon a time, we were planning on naming the first girl Aria Lynn. Lynn is my dad's middle name, was my middle name, and is Matt's mom's first name, so I felt like we kind of HAD to use it.

As you can imagine, however, naming a child after my MIL is no longer in my plans. I also dropped my own middle name when I changed my name at the SS office. Part of that was a convenience factor (I didn't want my legal middle name to be "Lynn Maidenname"), but part of it was that a name I used to love now sends me into twitching spasms and accelerates my heart rate every time I hear it.

  • Those are cute names. My grandmothers name is Elaine and my mothers name is Lynda. I dont think so.

We decied on Aiden Edward,  FIL, HH's Grandfather, and HH's are all named Edward and I really dont care for the whole Jr. thing plus its difficult when HH, FIL, GIL are together to get someones attention. For a Girl I have always loved the name Gabriella

That's a nice gift for the holidays!! Exciting!

Our grandparents all have pretty old school names. Helen, Elena, Maurice, Louis (latin pronunciation), and the list goes on to be more ethnic. I'm more partial to using the men's names then the women's, just because they're easier to use to make a nice variation.

Have any of you checked out the baby name board on the bump? I lurk there once in a while. There's some pretty crazy names out there (local hospital posts), but that board is also pretty picky.

  • For our first child, DH really wants to use Jackson (his grandpa's name was Jack and they had a very close relationship).

For a girl, I think we're pretty set on Lyla Jackson and for a boy it will be Jackson ________. I haven't found a middle name that I like with Jackson yet, but there are a lot of ideas in this post :)

  • I love everyones names!

The name we have picked out for a boy is a little different, but we both like it, and surprisingly so do our mothers lol. If we have a boy we're going to name him Texas Ryan. I know Texas is a state, but for some reason we love it. I also love the name Easton Joel, Joel is HH's middle name.

For a girl the only thing we can come up with that we like is Cali Jo. And yes we know that Cali is short for California lol but that wasn't thought of until after we'd decided we loved the name. Jo is my Dad's first name, and my middle.

Pretty sure I had someone in my class named Callie.

  • We are for sure going to use Cole Mathew for a boy. This incorporates my maiden name and HH's name. We had agreend on Hanna Elizabeth for a girls' name and then I got a sour taste in my mouth for the name Hanna so that's out. Grandmothers' names are Florence, Ruth and Irene...um, no. I love Olivia, Ella, & Bella, but we already have all of those names in the family with nieces & nephews. HH loves Elizabeth, so we will probably use that as a middle name. First names that we've discussed are Tia, Molly, Sable, Quin, or Laney. Who knows? If we have a girl, she might come out and then we get that "Laaaaaahhhhh" moment when the name just comes to us.

Rose is my MIL's maiden name, and I would LOVE to use it as a middle name.  However, I'm still trying to figure out how it would work, considering we've already picked out the first name for our first little girl.  I don't want to share it here because I'm uber-secretive about it, but it's a combo of my grandmother's two first names.

However, the name we've chosen would EASILY be shortened into a nickname, and that nickname is also the name of a flower.  So I don't want it to be Flower-Flower, right?

GAH.  We'll just have to have two little girls so we can use both names :)

And I LOVE the name Helena (combo of your two gmas).  Love love love it.  My old boss was Helen, but her sisters called her Helena and I just adored it.  This might actually make my short list for girls names.

We like Matias for a boy. I also came to like Mauricio, but that might be weird since a) our friend Mauricio is a crazy Brazilian b) before we left the kibbutz he joked about me being pregnant and I told him I'd name the baby after him.

When I think of Helena I think of Helena from The L Word. Not sure if that's good or bad. The name's not really my style, but it's crossed my mind for a mn. I've also though of Bell for a mn b/c my grandma collects bells (I know I'm cheesy).

    We also pronounce it Morris.

The L Word was on Showtime. It was a lesbian drama. Good show, the later seasons got a bit ridiculous. Helena was this rich b!tch basically.

  • I have Jacqueline Anne (my little french girl) Jessica Ashley (My little southern Belle) These names I picked out when I was in the 6th or 7th grade & Joanna Mercedes (my it girl) Mercedes was after exhusbands aunt Sister Mary Mercedes (yes his aunt was a nun) She died on my birthday and she was the sweetest woman around.

If Bernie and I do have one. We have felt that we need to stick with the J thing so the kiddo doesn't feel left out. SO if we have a boy which would be just wierd for me but if it were to happen his name would be Justin Daniel we would call him JD. If we had a girl it would be Julianna ______ don't know the middle name. My fear is having twins agian. I don't know if I could do that agian. Its a lot of friggin work.

You should be fine. Heredity twinning runs on the mothers side not the fathers side you should be safe. Hugs! You can now breath a sigh of relief.

On the other side of that they don't know why identical twins happen and that can happen to anyone. They don't know why the 1 fertilized egg splits and becomes 2. So on that note you could worry.

Also the older you get the more likely chance you can have twins as well.

I have twinning on my mothers side. It was my generations turn to have twins and I was the lucky one!!!  Mine are identical so no one has been blessed with a set of faternal twins in my family yet. Hence my worry. Twinning has pockets where it happens more often as well. One is california, another is Georgia. HAHA There are like 7 pockets where twinning happens in the world. I think there is one more in the States. Africa has a huge populations of twinning as well. Sorry you probibly didn't need to know all of that. I read a lot on twins when they were little and have a lot of useless information bouncing around in there.
