holy crap...

So I was doing more lurking on the GP board.  Some girl was 9 when she got her first period!  That's like super-young, right?  I didn't get mine until 8th grade.  How old is that?

  • I got mine in 8th grade too, I was 13. I knew a girl who got hers in 5th grade.

  • I can't imagine trying to deal with that in 5th grade!!  It was enough of a pain in the ass to have to deal with it in 8th!!

  • All my friends had already gotten theirs and they used to make fun of me. I was like dude, I'm the lucky one. I'd rather NOT bleed for a week on a monthly basis.

  • Yeah, I think most of my friends had already gotten theirs as well.

  • LOL you two always make me laugh!

I was like 11-12, 6th grade.  My mom got hers at 10 yrs old!

Its not so super young anymore, girls are getting it younger and younger.  One of my old coworkers her daughter just got hers a couple months ago and she is 10 too, its crazy.

  • That brings on a whole other topic too.... Girls are having sex and getting knocked up way too young.  When I was a junior in high school, I had to take a freshman biology class because the plant and animal science class I took out in California didn't count.  There were two girls in that class arguing about who got knocked up the youngest.  One of the girls was 12.  Indifferent and was bragging about it. • And then she was talking about how her mom watches the kid all the time while she goes out and does stuff.  I wanted to punch her in her fat head.

  • I got mine about a week before my 12th b-day. I guess I was in gr 6. I developed before the other girls in school. I was the first with a training bra and I was also a huge tomboy then!
  • I was 11 when I got my period.  I didn't know what it was and thought that I was bleeding out of my bum.  Fun times all around.

The youngest person I know to get pregnant was one of my best friends from elementary school.  We stopped hanging out in junior high because she started hanging out with a rougher crowd, and she got pregnant at 14.  She kept the baby too.  I had her on FB for a while but had to delete her because every post was like "Going to go smoke some weed with ___" Insert name of random dude she was dating at the time.  Or in her info "My favourite think to do is wake up, and have a toke for breakfast"  Awesome mom, huh?  Her kid is 13 or 14 now and it is crazy...I'm just starting to think about having kids, and now her daughter is pretty much the same age as she was when she had her.  She could be a grandma soon.

One of my really good friends was born when her mom was 13 (mom was 12 when she got pregnant).  I didn't learn this until I was in university, and I'd known this friend since we were kids.  It's crazy, because this friend totally has her shiz together, and always has.  She's always been a really good girl, did awesome in school, has her PhD in some crazy science, has had tons of her research published in super impossible journals...you would NEVER know that she'd been raised by an insanely young mother.  Just goes to show that it can be done right.

  • I used to know a boy who was 13 when he KU his 12 year old girlfriend, she had the baby when she was 13....Indifferent

I got my period when I was 12, at the end of my 7th grade year. My sister didn't get hers till she was 13 or 14.

  • Jesus!! How do you physically have a kid that young??

  • I got mine at 13 too

I was just reading an article on foxnews saying that kids are trying to get  pregnant at a young age now so that they can try to be on 16 and pregnant or teen mom and to become celebrities.  My jaw hit the floor while reading the article it is too crazy for young children to think this.

  • That's why I think those shows are effed up.  It basically glorifies getting knocked up at a young age.  It's unrealistic because not everyone who gets pregnant that young is going to end up being famous.

This is exactly why I don't agree with tv shows like this. They're making these young girls think that having a baby so young is glamorous and easy. I'm 21 and no where near ready to be a mom, anyone that young isn't ready either.

  • I agree. These young girls see them on the cover of magizines and think its there way to fame and $. It's so sad that these kids look up to them and want to have a kid at such a young age.

Exactly. I'm not saying that packing the girl off to "visit relatives out of state" like they used to is the best way to go, but getting KU way too young was certainly not something anyone used to strive for.

I was just-turned 13 when I got mine. I am now 27 and still do not feel nearly mature and together enough to have a kid, even though rationally I know that I am.

  • They say the girls are starting younger and younger because of the hormones that we feed our animals so they will produce more! A lot of people are getting hormone free milk and stuff like that so that their childrens hormones aren't kicked into high gear early.

That makes alot of sense, I'd never thought of that before. I have a sister who's getting ready to turn 10, maybe my Mom shouldn't wait till she's 11 to have the period talk with her like she did with me.

  • I think I was 13 when I got mine, or maybe 12, I don't really remember.  One of the girls in my grade got hers in 5th grade.  We had a few girls get pregnant as Freshmen which was crazy because I hadn't even kissed a boy at that age.  I can't imagine a 12 year old having a baby.

  • OK, so I was a super early bloomer.  At the end of 4th grade (age 9) my teacher told me I needed to get a bra. So that summer, my mom bought me some and I started wearing one every day with the beginning of 5th grade (age 10). I started my period November of my 5th grade year, age 10.  I was mortified, embarassed, always a heavy bleeder, and miserably sick with cramps EVERY month, even to this day. It sucked a$$ big time, and still does. I was 5'6", 120 lbs, with a C-cup bra, a tiny waist, and hips in 6th grade. It was not a fun time for me. I was made fun of A LOT. The other thing that happened was that older high school boys (driving age) would hit on me, and that was scary.

  • My mom never gave me any sort of "talk".  She got a pamphlet at the doctor's office and gave it to me to read and said if I had any questions, I could ask her afterwards.  I was in 6th grade and showed it to my friends and we all giggled and giggled because they used such technical terms.  OMG IT SAYS PENIS!!!  The pamphlet talked about sex and puberty and periods and crap.

  • Another case for organic foods and meat / milk that is produced sans BGH and other hormones.  Yuck.

I was 12 when I got mine - as was my mother when she got hers. I remember being in like the 6th grade and mortified...nobody ever told me what to expect. It came on a wknd thankfully but when it was Monday and time to head to school I PACKED my jeans pockets full of pads since I didn't know how many I'd need. I probably had a stash in my backpack, too. hahaha.  I kind of hope this baby is a boy since I won't have to sit him down around 11 or so and tell him to get ready for a lifetime of bleeding every month and how to deal with that.

  • Oh, and I started shaving my legs in grade 4. In grade 6, when my friends started shaving and we're all excited about it it was old news for me.
  • I got my period when I was 11 or 12, the day we left for our Destin, FL vacation. Yup, my second day of having a period and I had to use a tampon. eek!

I agree about all of the hormone stuff. I only buy organic, free range meat. You see 14 year old girls with mustaches and DD boobs, it's ridiculous!

  • I started shaving in 6th grade.  I'm still fortunate that the hair on my legs is blonde and not thick.  I can go FOREVER without shaving my legs.

    What?

Totally went to my younger cousins middle school play and the teenage girls there had boobs as big as mine (D) and I swear some of them had mustaches....I blame the hormones!
