Re: Non-money saving tips
it's called admitting when you're wrong and apologizing for it. I'm not trying to seem understanding- I wanted to understand- I was ignorant to the whole topic-- I actually asked for more info since I never owned a bag of that nature. I openly said that-- so once I had more information I was able to see a valid point. But I guess you missed that part.....
Datsyuks & Ferdy- We Go Together Like...
I'm confused about all this. I didn't read Ferdy's post as an attack on anyone. She has her priorities in life (like we all do) and sometimes it can be hard to see how another can justify spending money like that. It's the same as wedding budgets. Some are perfectly happen planning a $5K wedding and some spend $30+K. At the end of the day, it's about spending what you're comfortable spending.
I read the whole thing as she genuinely didn't understand, and thought maybe it was her life/priorities that were keeping her from understanding. And I saw Shauni's response as an attempt to explain it. And maybe it's because I've met Ferdy, but I sincerely believe she meant "you're crazy" as a joke. The way you would tell a friend who's into skydiving that she's crazy.
I think threads like this, while completely innocent, often bring out some sensitive issues. Everyone spends their money differently, and a lot of times I don't like talking about it because this isn't the first time someone has judged my spending. I don't like having to defend myself, especially when people don't know the full story. Not that this applies to anyone here, but I know IRL there are people who are all, "Oh look, you think you're so fancy with your Coach purse" but they spend more on going out to the bar in one year, every year, than my 3 bags combined. Which, BTW, were all gifts, on sale.
I don't think anyone was super critical in either direction, but like I said, it's a sensitive subject. For instance, tbears, your last line kind of rubbed me the wrong way initially (my purses aren't stylish, they're practical, versatile, and will last forever), but I don't hold it against you because I am pretty sure you didn't mean it in the biitchy tone that I read it in at first. I think it's crappy for anyone to judge someone's spending habits openly, especially in a thread specificially about splurges.
Ferdy, you know I love you. But if someone is reading your posts a certain way, it comes of a bit holier-than-thou. Just because a person types something like, "I'm sure I'm the oddball", that doesn't necessarily make it less judgey. To be honest, if someone I didn't 'know' had written that, I would have thought it was kind of rude. I'm not saying you WERE rude, but it's hard to get tone of voice and intent across online.
FTR, I am a childless, coach toting individual and I am not offended by Ferdy's opinion.
(and I wish she, and Datsyuks and steffiel and a bunch of other "older posters" would stick around more)

Woke up. Still queen.
Yeah, ditto.
I hope that by older you mean, 'been around longer'.
There you go, trying to start sh!t again...
Whether you own a cheapo purse or an expensive purse does not matter to me. If you think I'm insane for spending $$ on a purse, then so be it, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I still
you all.
Can we have peace now?
In case I didn't make it clear, I don't in any way think you meant anything critical by saying that. I really was not trying to start anything with you. You shouldn't feel like you need to apologize/clarify what you meant, because I wasn't offended, I was just using it as an example. I realize that reading it in a mean tone at first was all my own hang-ups/sensitivities, and not what you wrote. I seriously checked myself almost instantaneously. It's like I read it and thought, "Well that was kind of...oh wait, no it wasn't."
As for the bolded part...I agree, you can log off whenever you want. But it DOES suck to get called out, or insulted (even if it's in your head), even by internet strangers. Sure, you should be able to shake it off, but I can't really blame someone for being human. To hold a grudge or get seriously upset about something is one thing, but it does sting.
Yeah, that's right. I meant all them ancient biddies in their 30's. Ya'll wish you could be as awesome as me and be in your early 20's and PARTAAAAAAAAAAAY every night!
(But seriously, people at work think I'm in my 30's cause I'm so lame.
)

I'm not going to lie, the reason I asked is because I'm pretty sure Stef is younger than me!
But I act like I'm 80. That's why the title of Shaunis blog gets me every.single.time
AHEM. I'm 25 and I've fully accepted my ancient biddie-ness thankyouverymuch. ::shakes cane and hobbles off::

D@mn! I missed a lot of action on the boards today.
See...none of this would have happened if I was around. No one would care about Coach purses. I would have trumped that with my own outrageous spending patterns.
The one place I won't skimp on is my car. Never have. I bought a Porsche 911, 4 years ago and I'm thinking about getting another. I want a turbo now. I buy sport tires that cost $250 a piece. The sport seats cost $5000. I won't tell you how much I have spent in upgrades. And you know what? I LOVE IT. That's my thing. And yes, I'm aware some people think I am off my rocker. More power to me!
That said, I refuse to buy clothes full price. Won't spend more than $75 on jeans and even though I own a coach purse and nice leather bags. I REFUSE to spend money on them. Mine are all gifts. I think YOU GUYS are off your rockers.
No matter how nutso you think someone is, there's always someone else worst out there.

Damn woman! Just when I thought you couldn't be any hotter...
I often dream of driving a Porsche, but for now I guess my Prius will have to do...
I spend out my ass to travel, and I know some people see that as nuts, so yeah... no judgment here.
Not going to lie, a Prius is part of my three way tie for dream car. Up there with Audi A3 and a new Subie.

I really really really really want an Audi Q5 or a TT (yeah, yeah, two completely different cars, a crossover and a sports coupe). "Progress cannot be stopped."

hahaha. Thanks sunshine. I am one of those mentally afflicted individuals who considers their car an extension of themselves. I do love a fast, sexy car. I have way too much fun in them.
Queenie - the TT is hothothot. Do it.
