HELP and heads up

Hey ladies- I need some advice/help. Tonight when I was walking to my bus (downtown MPLS) a huge piece of ice fell and hit me in the head. There were no signs and I was dumbfounded when it happened. I was right by the post office, so the worker there brought me in and called the police. The paramedics came and took me to the hospital where I got 4 staples in my head. I am at home now and doing okay besides the splitting headache I have.

What I need help with is who to call in MPLS about this? I believe the police came as the ambulance I was in was pulling away but I am not sure. Should I call a lawyer, my insurance? I am really not sure what to do and any advice would be appreciated.

Heads up to all, be ware of falling ice. It hurts like heck!

Re: HELP and heads up

  • I have no advice. But oh man I am glad you are ok!
  • I suppose it depends on what you hope to gain from the call.

Do you want medical compensation? Do you just want to notify whomever owns the building?

Regardless, that sucks. I was walking downtown St. Paul once, and a piece of metal fell from a construction site on the top of the Wells Fargo building and hit my backpack... literally inches from my head. Talk about luck.

  • First and foremost I want them to know what happened so that it does not happen to anyone else. But I would also like to know if they are willing to take any responsibility. I am not looking to sue or anything like that.

  • OMG! I'm so sorry you got hurt! I know with the warmer weather there was a lot of ice melting issues today. Take care of yourself. ((HUGS))

  • I'm so glad you are ok and weren't hurt worse!

I would contact the building off which the ice fell.  If you aren't sure, I would get the police or EMS report to find out where exactly you were.  I think the building's insurance covers things like this, so you should talk to some sort of building manager, if you can.

  • I'd call the post office since it sounds like that is the location that had the ice fall??  Their insurance should cover your medical costs.  (at least that is how my homeowner's policy works anyway!)  I'm glad that you're ok.  I was going to go to the post office downtown yesterday to get stamps but ended up deciding it was too slippery out.  Glad I skipped it now.  :)
  • Scary!  Glad you are ok for the most part!  But I agree that someone needs to know.  Maybe contact your insurance and see what they say?
