Artichoke) I'll be staying home for the first 3 months. After that, I'll probably work part time and our moms will help with at-home daycare. We don't have daycare lined up yet, but we should probably start figuring that out.
Buffalo) We're at the waiting part. We just hang out until we get a call to come to the hospital, and then we wait for the baby to get borned. When the baby's released, we bring her home, and then we wait for the birthmom to sign away her rights to the baby, which cannot happen until the baby is 72 hours old. She went out of her way to reassure us that she won't change her mind, but it's not done until it's done.

Enchilada) She's 19, and is no longer with the birth father. She wants to go to school and eventually have kids, but she wants to be able to afford it and have a partner to raise a baby with. Her exact words were "I want to be a mother, but this is not my time, it's your time."

ALL OF THIS IS PERFECT!!! Do you have any names picked out? can you do 3 months and then Jimmy can do 3 months? some people do that....are your moms like THRILLED beyond belief? I assume the only think they really struggle with about discovering their child is homosexual, is WHAT ABOUT GRANDCHILDREN!???? which probably means you're fulfilling dreams for them here...

Are you going to see the birth mother anymore between now and birthin'? Not until the birthin'. But she did say she'd send us ultrasound pics through the agency, so I'll post them when I get them.
When do you decide the terms of an open adoption? We sort of decide as we go. We have to send pictures and letters once a month for the first 6 months, then every other month until the first birthday. Then we send twice a year until she's 18. We can send more and they can send us letters and pictures (both families have offered to do this). I have a feeling that the father's mother will want to visit. We'll probably arrange some meetings at the agency until we get to know her better, go from there.
What did you have for breakfast? Carrot cake.
Do you have names in mind yet? We do. We're naming her Paige Diane. Diane is after my aunt. Diane is also the birth father's mother's middle name, which got us a little choked up.

What a wonderful birthmom. I love her, and I love that she seems to understand how lucky that little girl will be to have you and Jimmy as her parents! Adoption stories like this make me so happy...this little baby is loved by so many people, and she hasn't even entered the world yet.

Was it weird having a big important meeting like this at a mall food court? I've had a couple of those "this is a big moment and we're in a parking lot/food court/burger king" and it always makes me laugh because it seems to border on the absurd.
